Hello guys,

I am just wondering, Who invented trials and what there bikes where like to the trials bikes now,

I was thinking with my mates was it like someone had a mountian/jump bike and just took the seat off it,

So i was wondering if anyone knew who invented trials biking, I heard monty was the first trials brand out, But still would like to no what the first trials bike looked like

Many thanks

i heard it began in germany and america both at a similar time to each other, late 70's or something? It used to run alongside moto-trial competition at first. andreu codina was like the first famous rider in the sport, he made some of the first trials specific frames in his garage. Pretty sure it was a few years later when pedro pi started developing bikes for the sport.

Mountain bikes (and indeed jump bikes) were not invented when trials was around!

Many people took their bmxs or shopper bikes and challenged themselves to get over objects well before trials was a sport, but Mr Pi who worked with Montesa mototrials bikes is probably credited with producing the first trials bikes for sale.

Also, if you your talking about trials in general, Moto trials has been around for YONKS! Well before bmx or any other off road cycle sports

Ok, from what ive read:

A guy that worked at montesa (trials motorcycles) in the early 70's wanted to make a trials bicycle for his son to ride. He removed the fenders and all the other crap that wasnt necesary, (they all had fenders and a bunch of un-needed junk back then) Then he made a produstion line for it and then came the montesa T-19 trials bicycle. I have that model, probably over 30 pounds, and fricken wierd riding thing. Then skip forward a few years i think, and honda buys out montesa, there are over 7000 of those left in stock. They want to get tht sport going in japan, so they distribute the last fo them to there. Thats pretty much all i know......

I was riding trials for over a year in the 90's before I discovered it was a sport at all...

I also invented the question mark :)...

Me and my mate used to take his bmx to this school playground when we were about 12/13 and re-enact the stuff we'd seen in 'Kickstart'. It was cool.

I don't think you can pin it down to one person in particular. I'm quite sure the kamakazi downhill race was one of the first places to hold trials competitions, which was fun to watch.

I'm also sure that stock trials and mod trials got started from two different sauces too.
