Hub Reccomendation

Incase you havn't noticed the dmr hub is like £35 and an ACS is between £10 and £15.

You get for your money, 36 engagments. Something that won't give you a lot of hassle and if the freewheel does die eventually just get a new freewheel.

I have a hope xc and a mono in blue that need to visit hope if anyones interested.

he won't need new crank arms  surely the freewheel attaches to the hub at the back not the cranks???

DMR revlovers are not locked out mtb hubs are they? they are BMX/Dirt jump type hubs??

I wouldn't trust freewheels, seen them destroyed by too many people...

Buy a king :-

If people would of read the post he has £80 to spend so kings are out of the question, the dmr sounds like the best option and he wouldnt need new crank arms .

Even if he was running ffw then he could get a screw on bash/ring which are like £20 for supercycles

I find it so amazingly strange that people are suggesting ACS's!

So many people have problems with them compared to hopes. The majority of stock riders run them, without problems, mine's nearly two years old, and never skips. And i don't have to worry about tightening it up all the time. :-

Go with the tried and trusted, people have successfully been running hopes for years. Don't stop now. :o

Failing that, get a king. :D

Mike.

Good thing you wouldn't have to worry about it loosening, seeing as it's on the back where they're also a shitload more reliable?

The DMR hub isn't a locked out MTB to whoever asked, it's just basically a 135mm wide BMX hub.

Has your friend remember to budget for building costs?

But won't he need threads for the freewheel to go on the front, im sure he would :o

I've found a hope bulb on Ebay.co.uk - 60 Quid. worth it?

Hope bulbs dont last long at all, if your set on a hope at least get a mono/xc.

The DMR revolver is a MTB hub that is basically a big bmx hub, you screw the freewheel on the rear and use a normal chainring up front. I can get you pictures of my set up if you wish when i get home from college.

I use 22t chainring up front and a 18t freewheel on the back.

I have savaged 3 hope hubs, one sport, one moneo and one XC. I have also Savaged a LOCKED out deore when i ran front freehweel (like twisted/cracked the hub body)

I have used this DMR/ACS set up for around 2 months now and i can honestly say it has NEVER skilled while im doing TRIALS.

It does the odd skip just cycling along just like most things do (as im sure you will be used to being a mod rider)

If your worrying about it loosening (which it wont on the back) you can take it to a local garage and get a spot of weld on it for about a quid.

I have done this on my MOD and its nice knowing it CANT EVER loosen. Can also get you some pics of that if you would like.

Yeah... He wants one quick though..

How good are those RB Tractor Hubs? also Do you need special fit sprockets 'cos that dont look normal to me??

Fits a standard shimano sprocket, the cassette body is shaped like that to stop the sprockets digging in so destructively (Y)
