Your Trials Bike Family Tree

Anyone who started with a trials-specific frame had it too easy!!

My list:

Raleigh Ascender (learnt bunnyhops and endo's!!)

GT Arrowhead (learnt lots of stuff on this, fun bike at the time)

Vario Tibo (trials geometry, helped me learn to ride better)

Ashton Justice Mk2 (dream bike at the time, and super fun)

Ashton Justice Mk4 (bit longer, slightly better geometry)

And that's all I ever rode trials on. Funnily enough I have four other trials frames (3 of which are cracked) that I've never built up or ridden.

nice and short history

started on a giant box 2, this slowly evolved into a handsome dog rockhound, complete with 32t ring and 100mm travel forks. further evolutions into an orange zero, which was ideal and specced out to how i liked it until 2003 when it was nicked

since the 14th of june 2003 i have had a pashley 26ghz

grand total of 4 frames, none snapped, and various parts to match my moods

Starting from when I was little;

my first bike was a raleigh cheap thing, similar quality to apollo bikes, then i had a Giant Stonebreak MTB the first bike I ever took to bits and didn't quite put back together again RIP. Then I had a Saracen X-cell, full build, then changed parts everything except the frame. had that for about 2 years, then I bought a full build Onza T-pro, then that started falling apart on me so sold that, then saved enough money from summer job to buy Echo Control frame, with various other parts, then upgraded the frame to my current steed Ashton Justice. And then upgraded the frame Saracen X-cell frame to a Curtis Superx, Jim Davage's Prototype frame, then I sold that bike to my good mate Broomer. Who still owns it now. So there is the family tree of my bikes

No its not, beacuse them people havnt experienced trials on a non trials bike..hence trials always being easier for them.

Hence why people nowdays..get better quicker...than riders of old...beacuse we had to make do with 15" xc bikes (Y)

Yeah, spot on! For the first few years I rode on what was effectively an XC bike. At the time people were doing damn good stuff - the Martins pulled off some pretty big moves on similar setups, but all in all it was a lot harder. Cheaper, trials specific bikes certainly make learning stuff easier. When I swapped from the GT to the Vario and then the Justice it was like all the stuff that I used to 'just make' was now comfortably easy.

I'm sure I had more fun on the old bikes too. One of my favourite 'other people's' bikes though was Luke Edwards' black Heavy Tools. That was such a cool bike and he had it set up really nicely.

BTW Joe, where/how is Luke these days?

well i know mate thats what a mean, they have missed an experiance. they ent rode trials properly till they have rode an xc/dirt jump frame which has had the seat tube cut down the extra 1 inch to make it as low as possible, and the bb dragging on the floor

but it still must be so nice and easy to start on a proper trials bike B)

Was that the one with the Fatty R's and Answer handle bars? It was one nice ride. Lukes bikes always looked the part.

Saracen AWOL - 18" full susser, learnt endo's and stuff when i first became interested in trials, doesn't really count though.

Saracen X-ile - First trials bike, had that for a year, sold it

Koxx Levelboss - Bought in 2002, lasted me for ages, then get bored and sold it

Onza T Rex - Bought March this year I think, haven't really rode it much, being sold now.

BMX wise

Federal Divison

Mutiny Sinister

Erm... not too many all custom builds though, so I'll just say the frame:

Saracen X-cell - bit of everything, like most kids

Blunt Dirt frame. - Dirt/street bike, replaced Saracen

Marin B17 (the old Full susser's) - DH bike, was stolen after a few months

24seven V24 - Replaced Blunt for street/dirt duties

Woodman T-comp - first real Trials bike

Koxx Levelboss 20" - Swapped Woodman for it to go Mod

Mongoose Teocali Comp - Sold V24 for funds, was sick of lack of off road

Mongoose Teocali Super - Warranty replacement for the Comp after I cracked it

Iolo 24" - Sold Levelboss for it, current bike, Loving it, 24" forever!!!
