Had a couple of weird dreams last night. One was on an island aboard somewhere and I was in a road rally type thing in a red vauxhall combo van and there were also loads of others racing round in them. After a checkpoint I was following someone and the route went through a hotel lobby and dining area. At this point we were on bikes and I was on my retro kona. I jumped some stairs and hit a huge cupboard with plates in and knocked it over but there was some kids running around so thought I could blame it on them. Then a big angry hotel maid came in shouting at the kids and I sneaked out and back into the van and continued onto the road but there was traffic.

The seats are mega, got them both fitted in now, made a lot of progress the last couple of days! Crap picture though. Not a hole lot left to do really, I'm hoping to have it running by the end of the week. Bit worried about doing the static timing though as i've never done it before.

It had a hole in it so I traded it for ice cream

Been spending! Managed to get one of the seats in, but ran out of nuts and bolts to do the drivers seat too. Got the engine steady bracket welded on, now this is on I can really get cracking putting the engine back together!

Well i fixed and cleaned up the kona but it wasn't really up to what I want to use it for. Looks quite smart though, might use it as a commuter if i go to uni. I bought myself this boardman, done about 40 miles on it so far and it's great! Changed the seat though cause my bum was uber sore so i put a charge one on. I've loved thrashing it down trails and what not Not sure about the michelin tyres though?

Right I fixed the kona up and it is a laugh but it's not really up to what I'm wanting ahah. I know you said to avoid fs but I've eyed up a fs boardman bike in the right size etc for £420 and I am rather tempted.

I'd try and avoid anything without a registration document. Just means more hassle and could turn out to be a lot if trouble.

Wheeled the car out into the sun today. Did a few jobs like paint under the arches. Get some bits ready for welding and paint a few bits. Gave the garage a good tidy too. Also won these on eBay, well chuffed! Not totally sure how I'm going to fit them yet though. I might just bolt them to the crossmember and make some sort of braketry for the rear. I basically need to borrow a welder from somewhere cause once I've done that I can really crack on. Also not sure what to do with heads and stuff. I can get hold of a 12g295 that's had loads of work done to it but that's £150 and that's about my budget for go faster stuff at the moment. Also 12g940s seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Anyway I'm quite chuffed with today's progress

I am proppa tempted. Here is the beast! It needs a new chain, rear derailer, tubes and a tune up.

Thanks for the input. Hardtail it is then! Don't really want to budge the budget too much, not expecting something insanely good. I'm kinda tempted to build up my dads old retro kona lava dome for a laugh but it is twenty odd years old and missing a few bits.

I'm after a mtb for a bit of off road riding and very occasional road riding. However I've got no real experience/knowledge of the mtb scene. Budget wise is about £400 and don't mind going second hand. I think I'd probably like to do a bit of technical riding due to trials background (Chris akrigg style I guess). Any pointers of what I should be looking at? Been looking at boardmans and that sort of thing. Might be tempted by full sus? Or is a hardtail better? Also frame sizes? I'm 5ft 11 so was thinking 18-20"?

@greetings If the clear coat has gone hard which I assume it has then you will want to use some super fine paper or an ultra fine scotch pad with some suitable soap/paste, however be very careful not to flat through the laquer cause otherwise without starting over again you'll be able to see it. Make sure it's all clean with some panel wipe and you should be okay to laquer again. You've got the right idea with the polishing, just be careful near and edges and keep it moving and wet to ensure you don't burn though the paint.

I have actually had some before, got them dirt cheap but pansied out on converting subframes at the time and got some other seats. They fit me so so comfy, loved them! Shame to hear you might let the project go. Would you build a new one to a similar sort if plan? Can remember your cad work being insanely good.

It is tempting, think if rather just put a head on rather than spending on a cam and pocketing too. Needs to be lowish budget. Here's how it's sitting anyway... Engine bay Bores don't look too shabby. Provisional plans are.. -Recaro rs/turbo seats -Improved head -New exhaust -Weld engine mount/steady on -Paint engine and engine bay -Put back together and get it on the road.

Yeh just a bogo standard 998, except for the stage 1 type bits.

I took the head off the mini today to check over the insides etc. All looks well but it's getting me tempted to put a different head on. Not sure if its worth it though.

I found loads of autosport magazines from the 80s and 90s in my loft today. I admire senna greatly and reading something from that time was awesome. Also found some things that reminded me I was nearly called Gilles after Gilles villeneuve!!

I don't know what others think but that screams out to me that there will be hidden nastyness underneath. I like the fact the door step rot isn't even mentioned Edit: Decided if I have any spare money after swapping cars round I'm going to get myself a clubbie project. Always had a soft spot for clubbies
