  1. Toms advice is very good. To look at build threads join theminiforum. Some great inspiration on there. I'm not entirely sure of the year but I think it might be 1991 that they changed the materials slightly for the shells making them rust even more. The most usual spots to look for rust are probably the floor pans, sills and scuttle panels etc. God I'm going to miss mine. Insurance quote I've just got was mega cheap though so going to have some fun over the summer first
  2. I think I'm going to have to sell my mini :'( Going to put it back on the road first though and have a play til it sells, I'd love to keep it but it just isn't the right time for me to have have two cars and isn't suitable for what I'm after. I'll need some bits to put it back on the road though so if anyones got any bits I may need then shout up. I'd need a full exhaust, door cards, seats and a few other small bits. I'll certainly get another once I'm more financially stable.
  3. Just had a sort of mini interview over the phone, must have sounded like a right twonk. Never cope well under pressure with interviews.
  4. I did! What a beautiful bodge! I've had the carb off and have completely stripped it down top to bottom and cleaned it. Put it back together and just done 15 mile in car with no problem. Still wont be convinced its fixed til I've done more milage. What do you mean by check for vac leaks?
  5. Agreed that 2.5k isn't too unrealistic. The amount of hours you can sink into doing a respray soon adds up. EDIT: Although with all that work you are doing and the sort of finish you want that does sound steep. The golf is still no better. I've had the whole of the fuel lines off this morning. Cleaned them out, went for a drive and it started spluttering again after a mile or so. Got a bit fed up with this car to be honest, lack motivation to fix it at the moment.
  6. They ain't pretty! Plus insurance on them is deer and probably a bit larger than I require. So far best quote I've got is £1700 on a vw t4 but people charge an arm and a leg for t4s. Edit: To reply to Tomm, I've tried insurance on 1.2 litre vauxhall combo vans and transit connects etc and they seem to sit in the middle insurance wise. Doesn't seem to make no difference unfortunately. Done the pick up think with my dad for the last few years and it's not the best way of carrying a bike around.
  7. I didn't want this to get lost in a sea of vag talk in the car thread so made a new thread. Basically I'm looking to purchase a van once I've shifted my cars. It's mostly for transporting my moto trials bike around the country when I'm competing and will be used as my daily. Budget wise I'd say £2-3k and would like something with 3 seats or 2 seats with the possibility to fit more seats in. I'd had in mind something like a swb vw t4 or vito or something of similar size. Anybody got any recommendations or advise for what to look at or steer clear of? Also anybody got any tips for insurance too? It won't be used commercially at all but insurance on vans from what I've tried seems a bit steep! I'm only 19 with 2 years ncb but get quotes of roughly £2k which I think is rather steep. Would appreciate any help very much thanks
  8. It has an inline filter on which doesn't seem to be passing much fuel through at all. And I blew from the tank end towards the engine.
  9. Haha loving the umbrella. You could possibly get away with very finely sanding the area and then laquering again but it's likely you'll be able to see where you flatted through after so I advise painting and laquering the panel again to get a decent job. Golf if playing up again. Really starting to tire with it. It runs like crap at times with the revs jumping up and down when you try to drive it and is a struggle to stop it from stalling. I think it's fuel starvation at the moment. Maybe a nipped up fuel line cause the other day I put an air line down the fuel line and it kinda popped like it cleared a blockage. Ran fine after that but bout a mile or so after same problem returned.
  10. Indeed as Mike said. I am quite pleased though about this being released cause I'll be able to get a 360 dirt cheap and play gta 5 at the end of the year
  11. The valuation was more based upon the fact I'm not in a rush to sell it for the next 3-4 weeks and just getting some interest in it really. Retro rides won't be the only place I'll advertise it, just so happens to be the first one! I've signed up to e38 just now, isn't there a rule where you have to post once to see and post in the classifieds? Is this the forum where everyone posts on dans audi estate to do so?
  12. Put the golf up for sale, http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/151556/mk2-golf-1-8-driver Once that's gone I think I will have to put the mini back on the road and sell that too Times are tight :'(
  13. Well it failed, but only on the seat not securing In position right. Basically whoever took it adjusted the seat and couldn't get the pin to sit right so it just slid backwards and forwards :L So now it's got 12 months mot and 6 months tax I'm thinking of putting it up for sale at £1200 to see if by any chance someone will take it. Then when I've got more time on my hands and can go without a car for a bit ill drop it down a bit.
  14. Haha what a great idea. I welded the captive nut back down and put new sleeves in and a wishbone with new bushes in and a new cv joint and the knocking went away. Except recently a knocking has returned cause I think the drop links have worn out again. Mainly because the car is too low at the moment. Dropped it off at my old workplace for an mot. I'll no doubt be posting a picture of a spectacular fail sheet later today My idea at the moment is to get 12 months mot on it and 6 months tax. Put it up for sale at a high price while I'm busy and if it sells then it sells.
  15. I got it from a bloke in newark i think called jordan. I must say I have done a lot too it, usually to make up for some of the ropiness, Thats wishbone captive nut was quite a spectacular bodge Ive put new top mounts in it, new tyres, new bonnet, now anti roll bar bushes and droplinks, new wishbone, new wishbone bolts, new wishbone sleeves, new dizzy, new coil, new fuel pump, new fuel regulator, new heater motor and on and on all finding pleasant findings along the way. Were you responsible for painting the wheels? They aren't the best job I've ever seen! The seat frames do seem like a bit of a bodge but they have worked and i've never really looked at them. I'll have a look for this wooden light bodge, I've only looked at the drivers side cause i had to replace a bulb. It's booked in for it's MOT today, yaya
  16. Swapz does seem a bit chavtastic. Jardos evaluation seems about right to me, but don't think I'll get much van for that money. I should be around tomorrow evening skoze if you'd like to meet up and take a look, probably wouldn't do anything with it for a month or so anyway cause I have a busy month or so ahead.
  17. Can anybody give me a rough idea of what I'd get for my mk2 golf pricewise? Rough details are, 1.8 driver, 110k miles, porsche seats, coilovers, new front tyres, gti small bumpers, newly fitted towbar. Don't think there's anything particularly wrong with it, it isn't mint or anything though. Will have 12 monts MOT and 6 months tax. Was thinking maybe £1000 but prices seem to be all over the place on them. Basically keep getting more and more tempted to get myself a transporter sized van to carry the motorbike about in but in my mind keep thinking I won't get as much van as i have car with the golf if that makes sense? Anyone used a van as their daily too and what's it like? Edit: Anybody know any decent sites where I could post it up for swaps?
  18. He recognised me by my sombrero riding helmet. Was nice to finally meet you dude, shame I was in a rush!
  19. Had such an incredible week up in scotland riding the scottish six day trial. Managed to get a finishers award and had some awesome rides at times, had such a laugh too and made new friends it's been so awesome. Roll on next year when i will know what I'm doing and concentrate on my score more
  20. Propper giddily excited that I'm going up to Scotland tomorrow morning to ride the Scottish six day trial
  21. That is pleasant Looks like the overheating was just due to the seal on the water cap not being sat right. Put it right, filled it up and it's been fine since Phew
  22. I'm currently walking round in the middle of nowhere looking for a bottle of water so I can refill my car cause its overheated lol. Blowing cold air too, think I have a coolant leak
  23. I have been given a laptop, so nice to have my own working laptop again even if it is a hand me down.
  24. Put a new sleeve in the rear wishbone mount a d so far it looks like the suspension knocking noise has gone finally. wahooooooooooo
  25. Just a thought, when I worked in a car body shop we had a really old tin full on paint stripper stuff like nitromors. Every time it ran out my boss would fill it up somewhere. It was decent stuff too. So might be worth going to a car body shop and asking for some
