depends what your landing on, most riders near me go to two wheels however if its a rail or rock sometimes go to front, locking the front brake is good to make sure you stop if you need, however can also make it harder to land the sidehop, if you sidehop to front wheel you can also roll forward, if you land on the corner i.e not making it up the wall however still holding on the wall you have a chance to correct your self and roll foward -however with the brake locked you reduce the chance of correcting your self. there are also a number of riders who dont even cover there front brake in a sidehop these tend to be mostly street riders however it dose work. you learn to side hop they way you feel right! , even if you learn with your front brake locked on and then when you get better move on to trying new styles of the move. hope ive slightly helped

I struggled at sidehops at the start, I found riding with someone else at my level who also was learning them helped me get my head around how to do them, once you have learnt the basic's of this move its then down to how much you push this move. however there are many riders out there who choose not too do sidehops and bace most of there riding on taps and up to back's. also the idea of stock getting you higher is silly, however try one out see what you think, stocks big and numb# so you can get it up ok size stuff there easyer to tap and nice to gap. but mod's all flicky like and easy to throw around. rider picks his bike on what he feels best on, even if you like mod but can go bigger on stock.

First guy, really good, I liked the part with the dog haha, also he did have flow but imo hes not really a trials rider just a good street rider who's got a back maggie mount. really find it funny at how much he has to pedal on a fakie!!!! Second guy, I liked this more as it was more trials baced and the moves he did had control and smooth, however even as hard as it was its still tgs and did lack flow, WTF!!!! was the song about, at the start it was okay but when it got onto the rocks what the hell happend there I dont even want to watch from 5mins onwards even when I muted it that noise was stuck in my head! other than that a great video showing two sides to brakeless. however: rowan jones takes both of the above styles and uses them with style and flow

I were only kidding about the best ever part, and nope Two reason's, first is that I live a village away from mr akrigg and given the chance to see him ride brakeless made me think how daft he is but also how once used to it you dont really depend on the front brake as much, as in you can still do your basic tricks, as tap's gap's side hops and also wheel swap's as moves you dont tend to cover or use the front brake on, after a couple of days now im riding just as good as I was before but slightly changed me style, learning hooks at the moment I can get them to two wheels just about but want to try them to back, also rail ridings a thing i would want to try with no front brake and the second reason is' I used to run a avid bb5 and worked really well however after trying up to fronts, and gaps to fronts and hooks the brake tends to slip on me, there for getting used to a really crap front brake, and got to the point now I use it but not alot so this is an idea im toying with for a month, not going to ride it a week and decide not too as I understand it will take time to learn. so hopefully it will pay out haha. There atually good, wasent expecting them to be like they are, as one of the other rides for dark who lives not far away recived some and he tried them on the front and they wasent as good as hed hoped, but mine are working pretty well, and theve lasted since he sent me them around a month or two ago, so there not wearing down on the grind. also im running a meduim to harsh grind / not sharp, more of a wavie type grind like a over the top dead grind if you get me? =/ dont know how to make it sound clear so sorry if you dont get it haha. but yeah the light grind worked crap, smooth worked crap and winded me when it slipped on me, meduim sharp worked really crap , harsh worked okay but had gotton better as the grind sharpness has worn down.
