  1. Going through the last 4 brand new rotors I've had they all have a bend from new and rub making setting up the disc brake trickier ... Having a closer look tonight it seems that its not the rotors that aren't true but the 5 little tabs on the hub don't seem to be flat with one another ... Is there a way of levelling them out perfectly ? It would seem a very tricky little job as its probably the tiniest amount that needs to come off . Cheers
  2. nice typhoon you got there , was my mate toms, who sold it to my mate paul. who rode it probably 3 times ... lol.. does still look nice , and felt nice to ride too last time i rode it
  3. Just broke my avid bb7 on my stock bike so going to for a hope front disc setup now ... I want to run a 180 disc up front and have trial tech stock forks with a +20 mount . Which size or number caliper would I need to use a 180 ish rotor ? Thanks
  4. Hanger is fine and can't run it pushing up as the tensioner does not slide that far up ...
  5. only costs £15 and generally works well but the chain tension is slack. its double bolted through the wheel dropout and hanger very tight but after couple of minutes riding the tensioner will move slightly to where it wants to be happy.but where it sits i have chain slap like fook...... any suggestions on keeping it where i want it?
  6. strange wouldnt think a gu typhoon could take a huge conti dk....my mates gu typhoon 08 stock has a 2.5 maxxis in it but cant see amything much bigger going in it. the conti 2.4 tyres are bigger than the maxxis 2.5's by a fair bit
  7. does anyone know what the biggest size tyre this frame can take without rubbing ? cheers karl
  8. I have a habit of cleaning mine before evey ride . Not that it looks dirty but I'm a clean freak at home . Main thing is my back rim kept clean is absolute beast hot soapy water is all you need
  9. No chance , my mate bought it about 8 months ago rode it few times (not a big rider though) sold it to me about 4 weeks ago . Was in near new condition and hes not a basher at all so I got a good frame really . I'm heavy and I knew the frame was light and thought it won't last long and tonight my fear of breaking it came true lol . Just heard a big bang in the front end when I landed and there's a nice crack on the front under gusset . It's easily weldable but I'd rather sell it on and buy something stronger
  10. Can't believe I posted this today and then tonight my snapped my zoo piranha frame ! Only rode it about ten times
  11. ive started to notice the stock frames getting lighter and lighter ....that maybe ok for some but what about us heavier people who want something beefier? frames seem to be around 1.6kg on average now, im worried if i purchase a new frame it wont last 2 months... wheres the 2kg frames gone:(
  12. lol its a hans venture or something made by maxxis. its not bad for now but its a temp tyre. i had a conti rubber queen but was a tad to big for the frame . going to order a michelin or tryall lite soon . but yeah it does ride nice:)
  13. slowly getting there , just got to change a couple more parts for strength but it looks ok i suppose . rides very nice:)
  14. time to start filming

  15. Not sure if anyone rides Newark anymore ! I used to ride down there ten years ago with a group but they all quit . But there's a group of us in Lincoln , we ride every Saturday and some weekdays . Drop me your number mate . The more the merrier
  16. my 05 lever has a crack in it so im looking at the new 2011 version lever only purchase. are they any good? no problems yet with leakages or cracking? if im to purchase the lever only will this be a straight swap over and rebleed? thanks
  17. Well I've just put an order in for a hope saw rotor in 183 mm size . Would be gutting if I tried a hope saw 203 and that bent If I flip the caliper mount upside down I can run a 185 disc so I'll do that with the 183 and hopefully the beefy design and stiffer size should be good and strong ! If it brakes again I'll be going back to vee's lol
  18. I think I'm putting this down to a flimsy design that's not been tested properly . It maybe alright with a 10 stone kid but as I'm 18 stone the 203mm rotor is too flexy or me . No other reason . I ran a 185 disc with no problems at all but as the trialtech forks are a +20 mount I have to use the 203 rotor now . Looking at the a2z design the arms that connect the centre of the disc to the braking surface are long and thin . I think thatsthe problem . The 203 version should be beefier . I can imagine the smaller versions of this disc being stronger and less flexy . The hope saw rotor looks strong as it's got such a stiff looking design .
  19. Not sure mate , it's just more of a big twist in the rotor rather than a in or out bend that can be bent back easily . It's nearly impossible to get a twist out the rotor
  20. Just thought I would update this .... I set the rotor back to tarty and they sent it off to the manufacturer who covered it under warranty . Only possible explanation off tarty was possible heat treatment was not done properly , but it's a guess . New rotor arrived and although I've ridden for 14 years and worked as a bike mechanic for a few years , tarty just advised me to bed it in slower this time . My setup is perfect . As I've read the replies to this thread and everything I've done is spot on . Once again my setup was great , put the new rotor on and off I went . I rode last week , with no front wheel moves at all , and Saturday with no front wheel gaps , just taking tartys advice . Went out tonight for a ride , the disc has bedded in nicely now and decide to try my first gap to front , and guess what ? It god dam bent again upon landing .... Really pissed me off now . Nothing is loose , and it's setup near perfect . This disc rotor is either a shite design or it can't handle my weight ! I'll have to ring tarty tomorrow and see what they can do .
  21. Rotor was on right way too rang tarty and they thought it was weird too . Might not have been heat treated properly ! Will be sending it back to them Monday for them to have a look
  22. Avid bb7 and was set up perfect all nice and tight to , had a 185 disc on before with no problems at all .... Thought it might be the rotor design being to weak or something ? Or faulty ?
  23. Contaminants on the disc can cause it to bend ??
  24. Bought a new a2z 203mm front rotor off tarty , fitted Wednesday and went for first ride tonight . Braking was getting more powerful as I dragged it on and off towards town .... However decided to do my normal gap to front about 5 foot , landed fine , brake slipped abit (not fully bedded in) , only to find a nice big bend in the rotor . The wheel would hardly turn as at least 1/5th of the disc was bent to hell ! Is this a common problem ? I can only put it down to either 1.... I weight 18 stone ? 2..... A faulty disc ? Any help ? Thanks
  25. My new bike came with a conti rubber queen 2.4 on the rear which is great , but it's a right fit . After riding on Saturday I noticed it rubbing badly and looked like a buckle in the wheel , however after looking today the wheel is straight , the tyre has the buckle ! I've let it down , squeezed it , pumped it up no end of times today but it keeps coming back ..... Anyone have this problem or a way of straightening it back to it's original shape ....? Much appreciated !
