  1. Yeah, that was definitely one of the main things I thought about before getting off it. I guess I didn't have any family members on mine but even with friends from other places it seemed a bit inconvenient... I reached a conclusion that I'd normally text/phone my closest mates anyway and the ones further away can still get hold of me pretty easy just by facebooking a mutual friend who I see often. I have no argument for this though, when it comes to connecting people it's pretty damn good! See that works well on paper but in my case at least it never took long to start accepting people I knew but wouldn't consider real friends...
  2. Definitely! You realise there's actually little need for it and people are over reliant on it
  3. Only been a day so far but it's looking good! haha Yeah I'm quite bad with it haha It seem people use it to make their lives seem more exciting? At least that's the feeling I get when reading all the "having a great night out" posts... Funny enough, I'm in the same boat but I just let them all now from now on they'll just have to text/e-mail me All good points here, I watched a video this morning and instantly thought "hmm let's share this on facebook" haha
  4. If you are reading this, there is a pretty high chance you've got a facebook account and an even higher one you've become so dependant on it you check it as soon as you wake up... That was pretty much the case for me, even after multiple attempts to delete pointless "friends" and unfollow all the other idiots constantly moaning about their lives, I'd still find myself wasting hours and hours just scrolling up and down my news feed. That's not even the sad bit yet, eventually I realised I actually enjoyed getting likes on stuff; I would put up a clip or photo I should have been stoked on regardless but if it only a handful of likes before disappearing in peoples' newsfeeds I'd feel pretty bummed out... Anyway, to get to the point - not too long ago, myself and Rob Harris (shameless name drop) started talking about deleting our accounts and we actually got around to it yesterday. Now I've only been off it for 24 hours but it honestly feels as if I quit smoking which is really quite sad seeing as it's only a website! It didn't take long to realise how quickly I get bored without it though, especially today when it hasn't stopped raining since the morning but it didn't take long to find a load of other productive ways of spending my time. I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that if you find yourself wasting time going through the hundreds of silly posts on your newsfeed you might want to consider logging out for a while... Maybe even just for a couple of days just to realise how much extra time you'll have - I know I'm not going back though - there's a £5 bet with Rob on the line
  5. Having followed Stephen Murray's road to recovery since day one I do believe Martyn has a high chance of recovering although it's going to take time. http://vimeo.com/79250108 This shows you Murray's progress after 6 years, it just shows these things happen, just happen slowly!
  6. http://rouleur.cc/journal/riders/reasons-be-cheerful-one-two-three Really good read, it's good to see that although he's not got much hope for recovery he's coping really well with the whole thing!
  7. I've read that also, has there been any official update from him though? Stephen Murray's recently shown signs of improvement after over 5 years and he was in much worse condition so surely Martyn should get better? Amazing video though, Danny's loop was rad!

    Getting old...

The argument I normally use though is that of people like Sir Chris Hoy - he's getting close to 40 and he's fitter than just about any 15 year old. When you say you're not as fit as you were when you were younger is it because with age the body gets weaker or is it because as you "grow up" you ride less and get weaker? I remember reading something recently about a study that shown new muscle tissue you get from working out looks exactly the same under a microscope in someone who's 70 and someone who's 17. My argument here being that if you carry on exercising your body stays relatively the same? I'm just chatting sh*t now though I think I'm just worried about getting old so I'm trying to make myself believe if I carry on riding it won't feel any different when I'm 50

    Getting old...

It looks like the problem is growing up, not growing old

    Getting old...

Ever since I started riding bikes when I was a kid I'd always hear some people say they're getting too old for this - some of them weren't even 20 at the time. Fast forward a few years and it's still the same thing, especially with BMX - it seems once a lot of people get past 20 they start to think it's time to slow down with riding and instead opt for the thrills of their play stations when they get home from work... I just saw this posted by Danny and I think it's truly inspirational! It almost makes getting old seem fun, knowing that I'll probably be able to get on one of the high tech carbon hover bikes or whatever they'll have in the future and pull a couple of wheelies http://youtu.be/vwMMS-dhJ1Y
  11. Here's a random fact people might like - Alex used to ride trials back in the day!
  12. I've grown up riding with Alex on a tiny island, he's gone from riding this small, crappy mini ramp to being able to demolish just about any skatepark. This is one of the best park edits you'll ever watch!
  13. http://coinmarketcap.com/ Bitcoins have no real value so the minute the next big thing comes along the price will take a massive nose dive. There's already tonnes of new ones and they're all growing much quicker. Saying that, I have no idea how that stuff actually works, it seems fairly complicated to actually get hold of one

  16. I think if it allows you to ride with as much style as the french then it's definitely worth every penny
  17. I can't be bothered to read through the previous pages so sorry if anyone's mentioned this but has anyone ever tried getting a 24" cruiser http://cdn.bmx.transworld.net/files/2009/02/24/jc-cruiser_01.jpg and converting that into a streety trials bike? I know you have the obvious issue of brake mounts etc but for the guys that ride 24"s brakeless, would it not work with lower gearing and a trialsy stem/bar?
  18. It's mad how far he can do those 180 tap 180 gaps with so little speed!
  19. 1 - If something of breaks what is you first thought? "Ahh f*ck..." 2 - Would you attempt to repair it? if not then why? If it's something I think I can do - yes. If I don't think I can, I normally see what I can do, youtube's always good... If I'm going to throw it away I might as well give it a go 3- During repair, would you do it properly or go for a cheap bodge solution? Bodge job if I need a quick fix asap but always try to do it properly 4 - What would you do if you if you couldn’t or didn’t want to repair it? See if someone else can and if repairing is too much of a pain in the arse/too expensive I replace it 5 - What do you think is limiting products from being repair easily by the owner? Re-designing products to make them simpler will probably impact their functionality etc and may add extra cost. Now that I think of it though, it's probably in a company's best interest - if my toaster broke I wouldn't buy the same one, I'd try a different company 6- If you had a choice of buying something that is rated as being simple and easier to repair when broken, would you buy this over the standard? Or would it just be more hassle to do everything yourself? All depends on the cost and other features!
  20. This is a valid point, I recently spent about 20 minutes trying to get a bottom bracket off until one of my house mates told me it had a reverse thread on one side...
  21. That was my point about being bound by the 3 categories, can't really justify the marks even though you'd want to ha
  22. There used to be in Mirra's days. Nowadays the only way you can make a living out of riding is if you have a number of big time sponsors behind you or you're consistently placing high in comps
  23. One of my favourite albion interviews!
