  1. My friend had a Morewood and it was a really fun bike because the handling was really sharp and twitchy. Almost like a full sus BMX or something. Definitely not what you want all the time, he got rid of it quite soon after buying it. There's nothing wrong with the Commencal - I have one and I love it. I'd just question the need for a carbon one, it doesn't save much weight and it seems like a liability. If you've got an XC bike, then is a 5.5" commencal really going to be that different? It depends what sort of stuff you ride, but as far as I'm concerned my Commencal is an XC bike. If you want something for a bit of everything including some DH / jumps etc, get something a bit burlier and more heavyweight.
  2. So you need a couple of fox bushings unless they're in the shock already? Little brass hula hoops press into the eyes on the shock. That bit is easy. The other bits is the "mounting hardware". You can try and get some online (Mojo as Tic says, or you could try ringing BETD), or just get some made up. There's a few dimensions which you'll need to know - the diameter of the axle bolt (M6?), the width between the pivot plates, what type of shock it is/the internal diameter etc. It shouldn't be too hard to get them made though. P.S. I never heard o the Kona Kuku so I googled it and it looks like a BMX?
  3. Glen, have you ridden a Morewood? They're a bit weird. Quite short yet steep and pretty basic suspension design. I probably wouldn't spend that much money on one. Actually come to think of it, I wouldn't get a Carbon Commencal either. Unless you're trying to win the mega or something, I don't see the point.
  4. That's not really true these days. I've ridden my Commencal (Meta 5.5) on pretty much everything, from flat XC races to my "normal" fairly hilly + tech XC rides, to DH uplifts. Obviously it's not ideal for that first OR last option, but it's not a bad middle ground in my opinion. There's a million bikes with similar intention - every bike company (more or less) has at least one in the range. E.g. Commencal Meta, Spesh Enduro, Lapierre Zesty/Spicy, Giant Trance etc. If you wanted something a bit more hardcore then something like a specialized Sx trail, Giant Reign etc would do the job too. This has the advantage of slowing you down uphill and allowing your girlfriend to keep up The only thing that these bikes aren't, is cheap. I wouldn't want to spend less than a grand on that sort of bike and expect it to hold up to a thrashing.
  5. This article explains why what you've found might actually miss the point. Basically if you're in an area of good signal (as you were), the bars won't go down.
  6. If it is true, it's a pretty massive own-goal for a company like Apple who pretty much build their reputation on perfection. I actually quite like the look of the bumpers so I'll probably get one of those and by all accounts that cures the problem.

Jailbreaking isn't the same as unlocking to use on any network. You can put iOS4 on the 3G/3GS, yes. There shouldn't really be any major problems with your plan unless you need to unlock it - I'm not sure what the current situation is with unlocking. I think you can do it with iOS4.

Time for iOS4 with support for folders, then. It's available now on iTunes. That's about the only thing that's significantly different on my 3G
  9. Ah shit, this is the news no one wanted to hear. I knew he was an amazing rider, but from all these comments he sounds like a really nice guy too. RIP
  10. Ah shit. Get well soon Gav!
  11. I've just looked this up: REM sleep is considered a "lighter" pattern than NREM (non-REM sleep). Your brain activity (and hence rapid eye movements) are greatest because during REM you're almost awake again. When you go to sleep, you miss out REM, and go through the stages 1 - 4 of NREM. After 70-90 minutes, you have to come back up through the stages 4 to 1, and then enter REM sleep for 10-20 minutes, before dipping back down for another cycle.
  12. So the consensus = bigger hammer / more force. Excellent I should have said before, I've had this very hub apart at least once or twice without difficulty. I guess something has seized since the last time I took it to pieces. Hmmm. I haven't actually tried that but I'd be concerned that I would lose the pawls as they would presumably go flying out when I loosen the axle from the non drive side?
  13. I though there were only 4 stages, with deep sleep being the final one (stage 4). But it's been a while - Maybe there's 5 now?!
  14. In my real life, yes. But not on here I don't think I would be able to answer any specific questions on here - Partly because of the distance / not seeing people in the flesh, and partly because I'm still very junior. So it would be out of place and unprofessional to give specific advice etc. Hence I'm not a doctor in this world. But yeah, I would hope I know more than average about health I would definitely agree with these statements. The "tired all the time" patient is very difficult to deal with since it's very often at least partly a matter of perception - who doesn't feel tired at times? Wouldn't it be great to have a lot more energy? I would imagine that half of the GPs' clinics are filled with people like this. Yet extensive investigation is unlikely to yield anything in most cases so it's a waste of money / resources and potentially harmful - not to mention distressing to patients. I suspect the sense of "uninterest" your doctor exudes is related to the frustration that modern medicine often has very little to offer.
  15. Deep sleep (one of the stages you mentioned) is the phase where maximal groth hormone secretion occurs, not REM

Definitely agree with that - very addictive! Wordwarp is a dead simple, cheap, anagram game. Good if you like that sort of thing :$ I think you just missed out on the Puzzlequest 1 + 2 deal (it was free this weekend). Possibly the most addictive game ever! It's probably worth the £3 but there's a free trial version to try anyway. Logitech Touchmouse is really cool - the iPhone works as a keyboard / mouse for your PC. Worths flawlessly for me, great for watching films as a remote control. Free. Airvideo is pretty cool if you want to watch videos (saved on your computer) on your iPhone. I haven't really found a use for it, but if it's something you could make use of, then it works perfectly.
  17. I need to change the bearings and pawl springs in my old Hope XC hub, like the one below. The cassette is off, as is the end cap (13 in the diagram). Now in the past, I've been able to pull the freehub body off fairly easily, to get at the pawl mechanism. Now it just won't budge at all - even with some levering with a screwdriver in the gap between the freehub and hub shell. Something has seized together, I'm sure. I don't know if perhaps the axle has become stuck to the bearings? I've tried some penetrating lube on it, no joy. Basically is there anything else I can try and lever / hammer to get the hub apart? From the diagram it looks like I should be able to drift the axle out from the driveside --> non driveside - even with the cassette body in place? However, I've tried some pretty massive hammers and it didn't work (I just mashed the end of the axle flat...).
  18. Sometimes the manufacturer will partition your hard drive with a 8Gb "recovery" partition or something like that, which is activated when you "restore" from the install disks. However, since you've installed Linux, you may have broken deleted that partition? Just a guess. Try a proper (I.e. not OEM / restore) Windows disk.
  19. That's never going to happen. It would be completely impossible to test for every disease going, and that's before you run into the problems of false positives (no test is 100% perfect). I.e. It's irrelevant to use diagnostic tests for screening, not to mention irresponsible as it could lead you down the road of unnecessary investigations for no good reason. False reassurance is worrying, too. Just because you don't have cancer on this year's scan, doesn't mean you can't have it next year. So what, should you have a CT scan each year? That's a surefire way to increase your cancer risk... That BUPA test looks like a fairly sensible compromise if you're overly concerned. They seem to be looking for heart disease which may be useful for older people but I would guess is not a concern at your age. My opinion: save the money and do something f**king cool. Drive a Ferrari around a race track or something, that's a much better way to spend that much money on improving your life. No, it's not. It's an incredibly rare disease in this country. Yes, it's not the easiest diagnosis to make and I'm sure a handful of people have had it misdiagnosed. Obviously if you're concerned about anything, then see a doctor.
  20. More here: I think this might actually be my favourite page on the internet.
  21. It's just like the PSone, the PS2 slim, the Megadrive II etc etc. It'll have just been redesigned to iron out some of the kinks in the original design (E.g. noise) and take advantage of different component prices. There's no real point in "upgrading", but if you were going to buy one anyway, there's enough new bits and pieces to make it worth waiting for / paying a few quid extra for. Because it was only officially announced today (or yesterday, or something). Apparently there's a separate connector for Natal Kinect. It comes with a Y-adapter for the old xboxes but it'll just plug straight into the new ones. Minor difference.
  22. I'm having a dinner party. You should come.
  23. I presume he means 4g as in 4th Generation. That's how they've always named all the various iPod down the years. It all just got confused when the 2nd iPhone was 3G.
