Yeah, it took me a while. I think he means he's piloting a remote-control helicopter inside a vehicle (say, a bus). The helicopter is hovering inside the bus, and when the bus moves forward, the helicopter goes backwards relative to the bus and smashes through the window. But that happens because there's no force being applied to the helicopter (I guess there might be a very small air pressure effect). Whereas if you are on a train going at 90m/s, you've already got that forwards momentum, so when you jump in the air you don't suddenly lose it. But does it take off? The helicopter on a bus, I mean.
  2. Surely he can just try other insurers? Whilst £1100 might be the cheapest quote, I'd guess there were other quotes only slightly more expensive that didn't rape him on instalments.
  3. It's about the only thing that improves as you get older I reckon. Just paid my insurance - £510 fully comp on a civic type r. Soon the tax costs will be higher than the insurance though
  4. Dunno what insurance is like in Poland, but no one in the UK would EVER claim on their insurance for £120. Uh, hope that helps.
  5. It does that on my Civic, I've never known why. It's done it ever since I've owned it (over 2 years ago now, was only 18months old when I go it) - no stalling problems, and apparently it happens to other people. Different fuelling system? Or just that it allows a bit of a vaccuum before the vent opens?
  6. Can you get another credit card? That would be the best plan. That amount extra, just so you can pay in instalments is crazy.

Nope, you're not missing anything obvious at all. The thing to realise is that at the extreme orders of magnitude (tiny/huge, super fast etc) that things don't necessarily behave in the same ways as the things we can easily observe. Quantum physics doesn't really make sense if you're only used to dealing in classical physics and equations of motion etc. I don't really understand it enough to explain it well. For the long explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorentz_transformation Edit: I found this YouTube video which sort of helps. If you can get your head around it. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DC2VMO7pcWhg&v=C2VMO7pcWhg&gl=GB
  8. Yeah, I remember a few years ago it took several days for the www.trials-forum.co.uk link to work. Anyway, looks like it wasn't a big problem this time.
  9. Is there an IP address we can use until the DNS sorts itself out?
  10. Well yeah you probably would need a hospital with a 24 hour Emergency Department. I find it hard to believe that there isn't one within an hour's drive, but then I've never been to Poland. And yes, as Muel says, don't mess about with things like this, go to see someone who knows what they're doing. Even the best internet doctors (who almost certainly don't reside on TF) are no substitute for a trained doctor. The idea that you would believe someone on TF and wait for 36 hours for it to get better by itself is crazy when your eyesight is potentially at stake.

Consider that the Earth is spinning at several hundred metres per second. When you jump from a solid platform up in the air (for a second, say), you don't end up hundreds of metres from where you started, do you (Though that would be cool)? It's all relative.
  12. Boot looks a bit skewiff on those last 2 pictures. Lots of panel gap on the right...?
  13. Crash, Bang, Wallop. What a video. Glad you guys are OK, and I hope the repairs don't put too big a dent in your wallet. It's an expensive way to get a cool story, but it's a pretty cool story to talk about when you're old and grey.
  14. Not all phones will work in the USA - it's best to check if it's tri/quad band. Also if you're planning on swapping sims then your phone will need to be unlocked. Don't even try and use your phone's data connection for anything whilst you're over there - it's really expensive. Wifi is free obviously.
  15. I thought that was cool! Reminds me of being about 5 years old and playing with toy cars jumping them off the stairs.
  16. Yeah Windows dual monitors is a bit limiting. I used Ultramon when I had my TV hooked up to my PC, it definite has the ability to set different wallpapers, and probably icon size (not sure on that though). Plus you can set hotkeys to enable / disable the second monitor which is useful for when you just want to work on the PC (TV off) and don't want to be able to 'lose' windows on the other monitor.
  17. Got away very lightly by the sounds of things. That looks sweet now. Repair what needs to be done underneath and leave the panels as they are (If it's MOT safe?)
  18. Yeah sorry I meant timing chain (not belt). There's a bit of a buzz on google about it, but I don't know if its widespread enough to be called a problem. But it's expensive/catastrophic if it happens. I've got an FN2 and love it, pretty much everything a hot hatch should be IMO. Never driven an EP3 but they're supposed to be pretty similar. I know people say the EP3 is more raw etc, I'm not sure how true that is to be honest but I expect it's a nice machine all the same. The only problem is that they don't have much tuning potential - At least not without spending loads. Never bothered me but it might bother some people. I definitely 'get' wanting a Honda though. I kind of want something a bit more grown up now though.
  19. Apparently the e46 330d has significant timing belt issues - a very expensive fix if it goes. I dunno about in Poland but in the uk, the diesels command a far higher second hand value. Ie you'll have to do loads of miles to make up the difference. I'd just go for a petrol, personally. 335i coupes look niiiice. Having said that, if ride comfort is the name of the game, I'm not sure BMW coupés are the best option.
  20. Now I know that the Clio is supposed to be a nice car to drive and nippy, but come on. In the right hands a Gt2 would rinse even a heavily-modified Clio out. This week I've decided I want a mustang. Not a lhd one though, so it's tricky/impossible
  21. All the companies got boned about two years ago when it was found out that they were overcharging for admin fees. So basically they're not allowed to charge more than about 30 quid. Pretty sure that's correct.
  22. I'd have something that rolls more freely as a rear tyre. Barons are fairly knobbly and draggy especially in the black chili variety.
  23. Yeah, I like em, prefer the standard ones though - don't like the big wing and black wheels on that.

    Shifter

You don't need to buy a single speed sprocket/chain, that's totally unnecessary. Just fix the mech in one position?

That's not how you replace the cable... Oops.
