  1. With my priorities being totally in the right order, I fixed the radio last night. from 1 speaker to 4 2 new 4" speakers in the back, and I recycled 2 of the original speakers upfront until I can source some new ones (these aren't that bad in all fairness). I now need to find an ISO connector so that I can wire that mess to the headunit in properly and allow me to swap to a better one that I can connect my ipod to. I have also fitted an amp cable kit, ready for a teeny sub in the boot as i'm still yet to grow up and I don't have a growling engine to listen to instead. Jobs to do very soon: Service Pull apart brakes, clean, reinstall, bleed Solder in an ISO connector for the headunit Fix the boot latch as the boot pops open on occasion Fix the n/s electric window switch Grease the cabin fan motor Make a new boot floor and re carpet it
  2. Its a bit rough round the edges but I absolutely adore this car already, feels so right to drive
  3. Love that M3, it is freaking awesome I had a few spare free minutes in the workshop this evening and saw some broken mk4 R32 lights and a broken 7" light... oh and an HID kit Now trying to decide if I want to do this properly for the Porsche/Commer/T25 seeing as they all use the same light units, and it would be pretty cool Shame it has nasty 6000k bulbs instead of 4300k but you get the idea...
  4. Bloody hell George, you do get some work! Chuck some my way over the summer please... Good stuff on the engine success, must feel pretty awesome doing all that for the first time with no major failures? I'm still yet to find out if the Commer engine I rebuilt works haha
  5. Collecting my car tomorrow, CAN'T FRICKING WAIT
  6. Yeah that may happen at some point
  7. Ok so my list of to do jobs for the porker straight away: Service car-£40 (filters, oil and plugs) Bleed brakes+ replace nipples £5 Check battery tray+ repair if needed Fix switch/motor for n/s window Alternator belt £5 Cambelt+tensioner+waterpump £40 Thermostat £7 Flush+ fresh coolant £10 Anything else I should be looking at straight away to preserve the engine and reliability? I did wonder about HT leads and distributer rotor+cap. alternatively should I just stop worrying and wait until i get the bloody thing?
  8. Car looks great apart from the retarded looking numberplate! How come you went for 10mm springs?
  9. Oh I see! I've never actually had anything to do with servos, can another simply be bolted on? What sort of master cylinder/servo combo would you recommend? The Porsche has mounts on the wishbones for the ARB, thats the only diference between the golf wishbones though. I'm looking at fitting coilover sleeves later on if I do decide to lower it but that will only be once I find some suitable wheels (the stock look does appeal to me though...) I'll give the standard lights a chance for now, just with fresh bulbs/upgraded wiring, it's not like i'll be driving in the dark much over the summer anyway
  10. Cheers Robin! By playing with the servo/master cylinder, what do you mean? I wasn't aware that you could tweak them in any way? The brakes may well be fine, It was more in preparation for the 1.8T as I want the brakes to be able to cope.
  11. Awesome, cheers Robin! I think that is certainly in the pipeline, not only more fun but also better on fuel, winner! Probably not so great on insurance though... but being 26, insurance is generally pretty alright for most things it seems I didn't realise that about the US lights, I shall investigate further. Apparently the lights aren't so great (never driven with 7" lamps before) so i was wondering about an HID conversion (hence projectors) or upgrade the wiring and whack in some decent halogens. I just want to avoid being one of those douchebags who has stupidly bright lights that scatter everywhere, although luckily the cars so low that I think i'll only effect other people in silly little cars. I did wonder about getting some 7" housings and transplanting some bi-xenon projectors in, a bit like Seamons did with his Leon lights, i'll see what his look like first! Do you know of any low cost upgrades that will be worth my while? Being a bit of a VAG boffin, I can only assume you do! Apart from a service, i'm leaving the engine alone as there isn't much you can do with these that is worthwhile (might as well save money/effort for the 1.8t). I'm wondering about break upgrades, but so far all I have seen is going 5 bolt from the 944, but that costs more than i'd like, or fitting Audi 100 brakes but that requires some machining. I was kinda hoping for an easy option thats simply a disc swap to a larger one, and then making a bracket for a new caliper
  12. Nice one! 1.8T is just an idea, I need to investigate what it involves doing transmission wise first to see if its worthwhile. Sarahs just annoyed because its too cool, who can resist a brown interior? Im back on the 2nd or 3rd, depending on how quickly we move our stuff into the new house.
  13. Yeah I'll definitely be over George! Whats happening to your spare engine? I could see that making its way in this Sarah is pretty angry I bought it, apparently wanting a practical estate and then buying a 924 isn't cool.... Got to admit, I do prefer the 944 but the higher cost of the car, the parts and the fuel just puts them out of my reach for the moment.
  14. Cheers dude! I'm well excited to collect it, bit worried as I bought it blind so to speak. Plans for when I get it home: Clean it Fix the dodgy NS window reg/motor/switch Give it a full service and going over underneath Fit fresh speakers and make a FG sub enclosure to go in the boot (something small and subtle) Delete the rear wiper Fit a remote central locking kit Does anybody know where to buy those 7" headlamps with projectors built in? I can only find them in the states and they will be LHD, I may have to just make some.
  15. Well I have 'won' the Porsche Decided that seeing as i got a first for my degree today and im officially a teacher, I can treat myself Well chuffed, can't wait to collect it!
  16. Same, I need a car and I have had a bit of a 924/944 obsession these past few months :$ don't care about speed, just want cooooolness
  17. I've emailed him, parents are coming to visit this weekend so I may nab a lift off them on the way back to collect it
  18. A 6 fingered mechanic will surely do a better job than any other? EDIT: Flux want £150 per year to insure it... sayyy whattttt?
  19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181163157809?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Very tempted by this if it doesn't make much more than the starting price... the brown interior makes me horny
  20. You should feel fortunate.... unless the brake isn't working satisfactorily then just leave it
  21. Took a 9-5 out for a spin tonight as a potential banger to get about in for the summer. All seemed great until the dreaded oil light came on....pretty much a death sentence for the 2L LPTs. Why can't I find anything
  22. It is great stuff, use it all the time at school!
  23. Get some Polymorph and mould it round, simple
  24. That's an awesome video, made me really want to get out and ride!
