Not sure if i worded that correctly, I know 3 teeth is a lot, that's why i'm surprised at how well it is running! I'll double check with the dipstick to confirm TDC is correct on the flywheel marking and if so i'll reset the timing on the camshaft it is a non interference engine so I can't actually hurt it I guess! Timing light should arrive tomorrow as well which is great! Oh and cheers for the confidence in my skills haha, i'd say i'm fairly special needs when it comes to engines, never had much luck with working on them!
-
Well judging by photos of other people's engines, my dizzy is at a crazy angle!
-
Cheers for the help chaps. I just tried lining up the tdc marker on the flywheel again and checked the camshaft and its 3 teeth out...would the engine still run reasonably well with the ignition advanced/retarded accordingly? If that's the case then I have found my problem

Eurgh, I hate timing on my Porsche. I can't set the ignition timing to the flywheel marker as somebody has had the flywheel off at some point and installed it at a different point... This would be ok to get around but as there's a marker on the camshaft pulley but somebody has changed the pulley and therefore I have no marker on there. This means I can't time the belt properly (fairly sure it is a tooth out) and therefore I cant set the ignition timing and therefore my car is lump as feck around 2k, although it still performs really nicely! How can i find TDC? Should I pull the plug out on piston 1 and then shine a light through to see when its at TDC? Not sure what else to do i don't usually toy with engines

You didn't look hard enough, DMR made a bash that accepted 5 bolt rings, and you could buy spiders for 3 piece cranks too! I have one of each on my 2 bikes

Porsche passed its MOT, well it failed, but then I fixed the issues straight away and it passed Well chuffed!

Awesome, cheers fella!

I miss cleaning my EGR and inlet every month on my Saab, or not. Just done a bitch ton of jobs on the Porsche for the MOT tomorrow...yet the list is still huge... ARGH! It will be a long night On the plus side the underneath is all nicely undersealed now along with the freshly refurbished front suspension, it looks pretty, maybe that'll be enough to impress them and distract from the rest thats falling apart? For the MOT: Does the fuel filler cap have to actually lock? Mine threads and secures but cannot be locked My windscreen washers take about 2 seconds to actually get fluid to the screen, is that still a pass? Does my car need a cup holder?

MOT Tuesday, and a great deal of things stopped working properly today. Will I get the car ready in time? Probably not... EDIT: Well at least my car runs properly now, bloody ignition timing was out as a the bolt was loose that clamps the dizzy down!

I thought that was a shitty stick! Looks like poo on the end... Bikes fine, great for the money, those frames are well regarded.

Yeah the guys on the forum I use, it looks just right! Seems 924s are getting rather popular recently, I bought one at just the right time I hate doing paintwork but its necessary to do, my little nephew spurred me on as he took the piss out of the rust He does enjoy drifting around the farm though...

It looks better, trust me Now to order some stickers
-
I really wish I could have gone Sounds like an awesome weekend! Hopefully next year! Backs sprayed on the Porsche, colour match is a little off but i'm intending on doing a full case spray next summer anyway so it's not bad enough for me to worry about. Still yet to polish it all up as it needs to harden a touch more first. Im wondering about doing the part between the lights where the plate sits in black, I have some vinyl somewhere so I'll give it a try and see how it looks

Where abouts are you located? Might be interested in the whole car

Only if the price is right, the 1.8T makes far more sense
-
Cheers Luke It is really nice getting into the car each time and it is that little bit better! It'll be nice when I get in after the 1.8T goes in... just need to find one for cheaps I now have the rear panel in primer, there was lots of little chips and rust bubbles appearing! Treated them with Kurust as that is all I had to hand and it seems to work in previous experience, and now the back end is ready for a top coat. I'm going to rattle can it as I usually get decent results, although part of me keeps thinking that maybe I should get the spray gun out... i'll see what I can get tomorrow, it'll be getting a full respray at some point anyway!
-
I have removed the skanky old stickers out back ready for prepping the paintwork so I can sort out some scratches and a few rust spots. Should freshen the back end up a bit as it looks a little sad currently. Hoping to get it in primer today ready for when I buy some paint tomorrow.

Nah I got a Giant Trance for a good price, fits me better

I finally went tubeless today. It was the easiest thing ever, I just cut a BMX tube valve off that had a locking ring, left on my normal rim tape and shoved in 3 cups of Stans (Rubber Queens are notorious for being rather pourous so I figured I may as well get it over with), tyres seated within about 20 seconds of pumping with the compressor whilst I got the bead to seat. No loss of pressure since pumping, however that may change over night... The bike feels so different now in a positive way, the tyres make a weird hollow noise and it all feels a little more responsive. I'll find out what it is like on the proper trails soon I hope!

I may have a set of 4 tyres in that size spare with fairly meaty tread, fairly sure 2 are T1Rs and the other 2 are Maxxis if you are interested?

2 new Bilstein front strut inserts for £13...winner
-
I think what I have now are genuine Porsche ones, but the brakes leave alot to be desired.... I'm going to rebleed with some 5.1 and make sure the rear brakes are setup nicely as I don't think they are doing as much as they should be. Hopefully i'll find out some worn front discs so I can machine them down and make some adapters ready for accepting a brake upgrade
-
Cheers! I thought it may be the case, I'll stick with what I have got for now then

New tyres on the Porsche have totally transformed it. The pair I replaced were 6 years old, hardened and cracked to feck. On the way to the tyre fitters the car would lock up really easily in the wet and was a total disaster to drive, fortunately on the way back the new tyres were great even though they hadn't had an opportunity to bed in I will replace my rear tyres in a few months, they aren't cracked but they are over 5 years old and they don't grip particularly well. Just bought a bunch of bits for a front suspension overhaul, polybushes, track rod ends, ball joints, paint and underseal. Some parts didn't really need doing but I wanted to get the car perfect underneath ready for the MOT, winter and also because I intend to keep this thing for quite a while. Also, are EBC greens any good as road pads go? Seem some for £21 new which is seems a really good price but I seem to recall people had issues with some types of EBC pads separating?

Has anybody got a spare head unit kicking about, looking for an old tape deck from the 80's era...
