I had an Audi A4 1.9 TDI (90bhp) that did 180k and then died. It was a bit shit to be quite honest apart from the awesome fuel economy, the smoke bombs it made were pretty epic though.

After sitting under a tree for a week the paint had lots of nasty staining, so I gave it a machine polish and added some wax sealer. Fingers crossed it stays white now... I really need a new front valance... this one is terrible! Front panel and headlight covers also need a respray at some point as they are heavily stone chipped and rusting. I also found some spare aero wipers (little bit wider than what I had) so now i my actually be able to see when it rains
-
That is freaking nice! I wish I had the dollar spare for something like that

You will have to have a play in it next time I see you, even though it isn't quick it really is fun
-
Cheers mate, sorry to hear you were that ill! You did look pretty grim... Yeah it is a really nice feeling sorting all the little things, nobody else will notice but I do

So the car now has remote central locking, and the alarm is nearly all in (just the sensors to plug in now). I also did some other fixes to the car including a new sunroof lever clip, cleaned out the wiper switch, removed the blocks from my seat to lower it and also greased up the rails Old scraped wing mirror casings with falling apart mirrors (stuck on stuff) Tidy wing mirrors! And proper glass Slightly cleaner interior Thermometer screen in radio balance slot (Probe is in the front valance) Radio mess.... Soldered, heatshrinked and tied up Still got a million other jobs but it finally feels like the car is coming together now, the little annoying problems are disappearing slowly and it feels better each time

Been playing with the car this morning. Removed the old alarm, some sort of ghetto fan relay system (so the fan stays on 30 seconds after the ignition goes off, I will reinstall that properly later) and a bunch of other random wires that went nowhere.... Got the lock actuators and loom installed now, so the next job is wiring in the receiver, fun times! The pile of goodness to go on today/this week:

Well i'm not home til late this evening and i'm at my little nieces birthday thing tomorrow (so that writes off the whole day basically ) so Sunday is basically the only day i'm free anyway! Some help is always good, it's not a hard task (i've fitted 3 kits now btw ) but it'd be nice to just get it all fitted and over and done with!
-
Yeah i went with right click again, damn good units for the money! And I like flip keys :$ the kit has everything I want with the option of adding extras, can't argue with that! It doesn't have an immobiliser/alarm as standard (it does have some sort of alarm that I need to remove but it doesn't work) which certainly makes my life easier!Mine has a handbrake switch so that's easy enough to hack into! Neutral switch might be easy enough to sort, need to have a peek underneath and see I think the other option is to have a remote popping boot, which actually sounds far more tempting as I hate having to use my key every time...I might install a boot pop button in the cabin, got a feeling that would be very handy.

RX7s always go down well My new alarm/remote c/l has the option of remote start. Do I? In my head it seems a cool idea but in reality I can imagine it being one of those things that will end up in my car starting up in gear and running off

I figured for the machining, polishing and manufacture of a new butterfly would make the £60 pretty good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/porsche-944-924s-924-enlarged-throttle-body-60mm-/390620170278?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5af2c6c826

Ordered a heap of parts for the Porsche, and I'm getting to the point where I can start concentrating on the paintwork and getting it nice as the mechanical and electrical problems are pretty much sorted, very tempted to just give it a full respray and be done with it rather than patching in everything. I've found somebody who will increase the throttle body size from 56mm to 60mm for £60 with a gain of 6hp apparently. Does this sound realistic/worth it? Not going 1.8t for a bit so this is just to increase my already massive grin whilst driving it!
-
Ohhhh! Yeah I have seen them, but I just use old boot carpet (with the insulation stuff behind it) or 1" polystyrene sheets as it is cheaper and i'm tight
-
Why on earth do you want a tiled floor? Seen people with them in photos but never really got it?
-
Yup, new helmet time for sure, I wouldn't risk it!

Went to peak at my brakes earlier as I was getting some annoying squeal, turns out my car has feckloads of new stuff on it, including calipers and pads I was flicking through the service history and it has had thousands spent on parts over the past 10 years! Mechanically the Porsche is sweet and mostly like new! Apart from some electrical and cosmetic issues that I am gradually sorting, there is very little I need to do to it currently. I am finding however that the 125bhp isn't enough. I really need a 1.8T for this car! It's begging for more power
-
That looks pretty sweet, is the paint really as good as it looks in the photo? I'm borrowing my girlfriends mums 5 series (need the boot space...) and noticed that it has some sort of weird brace system going on upfront, anybody else seen this type of arrangement? Also, sunroof out, windows down, radio loud. Freaking love the Porsche in this weather, even if my back is sweaty...

I built my own router table, never realised how useful they were!
-
Terrible iPhone photos but I did some machine polishing today...paintwork has gone from looking tired and dirty to super bright and shiny! Only used cutting compound and then demon shine today, going to do some bodywork and painting upfront before I do a proper polish and seal. Tried to make the contrast/brightness better on this to show the difference...I failed... I also found an old speaker box and whacked my little sub in there, just need to trim the top cover to fit on top and it'll suit the boot nicely Still a billion jobs to do on it but it is slowly getting there

That's frickin lush

I have that bar, its bloody good! I have so many tools that I find it pretty hard to narrow it down got over 80 power tools/big tools (presses, swagers, etc) and a silly amount of hand tools. Worryingly they all get used often when i'm home Makita LXT, incredibly light yet powerful, resists knocks and has been majorly abused yet keeps coming back for more Sealey CP2400, saved me so much time over the past 4 years and its uber powerful Homemade bench press, just cos I made it and it works, also has attachments (that i made) to fold flat and bend tube. The lathe is also pretty handy too Those stand out the most to me off the top of my head
-
I did wonder that, I have a large plastic tub for the carpets to soak in if that is the case
-
Trouble is I want to keep the carpet brown, and this is for all the carpets so it needs to wear well, the paint method seems to just brush off really easily
-
Another dull update I did an oil and filter change, and added some Molyslip to the engine, it is so much smoother and quieter now. Bike top cap made a rather good plug for my rear wiper hole after a little lathe work to make it seat correctly Resprayed the front wiper arms Slowly sorting the car out and tidying it up. I might even wash it at some point... Has anybody had experience with dyeing carpet? Mine has gone a light brown/green and it supposed to be a dark brown. I'm not actually sure what products to use, some you can do in situ, but I don't mine yanking the carpets all out

It smells of Drumstick/generic sweet smell, I think I got it from Pound world or something! I think i'm free friday night George, really depends how the rebuild of the utility room goes at my parents (its proving to be a total bitch), need to get it sealed off from the elements. Robin, its the latch and the pins, my pins are worn and the latch is out of adjustment, it's quite funny/irritating going round a corner and hearing it pop open. I'll investigate the speakers, Not in any rush currently, car needs plenty of other things doing to it! EDIT: Can anybody recommend a tyre that comes in either 185/70/14 or 195/60/14? 2 of mine are cracked, not an MOT failure but I'd rather get some soon
