  1. Thanks for the response Tomm, it occured to me after that it was 10mm too long, so i have found a few on ebay that are the correct size and hopefully cheaper (not like this is expesnive as such but i am on a pretty tight budget). I also realised that shock doesnt appear to have rebound adjust! Im not fussed about the suspension being ultra supple (i know air shocks arent reknowned for being as good as coils) as long as it takes the bigger hits, thats all i am worried about
  2. Sorry to drag this up again... Seen this air shock for £50 This would mean i could adjust the shock as i please and it cant be any worse than what i have now i assume? EDIT: I am aware the bushes wont be included, i will make my own on my lathe
  3. Assuming you son is pint sized, you will struggle to find a lever thats actually kid friendly! You may have to modify an existing one to suit him as otherwise he will struggle with it
  4. Try Teng, they have been awesome for me, and have some great deals on usually :)I found Britool were poor quality, i have cracked nearly all my Britool sockets now
  5. That blog was very interesting and saddening. I am amazed by his courage as well as his wifes, how they both coped that well is beyond me. RIP Andy
  6. Do you mean those? with a single pivot point? I have used regular v brake pads on those brakes, means you can get the pad to sit flat same goes for u brakes (two pivot points) Check out ebay for the spanish fly copies, super cheap!
  7. Take another look at the 'forks'
  8. Hi guys, thanks for your help, its very much appreciated. I think i will go for a 600lb judging by the results given on the sites as they seem to always suggest springs that are still on the soft side from past experience (had springs for my old pyslos and vanillas) Annoyingly it'll now be 5 weeks til i get to ride the bike again, so there isn't much point ordering just yet
  9. I'm training to be a D&T teacher at Nottingham Trent. There are several 18yr old on the course, they are certainly grasping it well 10 years time...hopefully head of the D&T department, married to my girlfriend and living comfortably. Oh and a rather nice car would be a bonus!
  10. So whats wrong with a threadless bb? Its been suggested before but you havent said why its not appropriate I decided it would be funny to answer your rhetorical question 'what makes you so good then?' because i knew it would provoke the reaction you gave Perhaps you should take a step back, realise that nobody accused you personally of being 'retarded' and get over it? We have been trying to help the guy, you have taken things way too personally. Oh and in reply to your unecesary PM: Next time i am in Lowestoft i shall swing by and call you everything i didnt say but you claim i have
  11. Firstly, we asked these questions before we knew that it was a trials rider who had looked at it, nor did i say you were retarded? Many bikeshops dont have much experience with trials bikes and so they tend to dismiss them through ignorance. From what i have gathered, the difference in size is minimal, and so to somebody who was not aware of this problem on the t-pro, they would assume the threads are shot, this is completely understandable but a solution is possible. I know you have a background in welding and engineering (or at least this is what you have told me before) but it doesnt mean you can't miss things. And seeing as you asked, i am good, i am fully capable of building a bike, i have run a cycle repair business in the past, worked for a large supplier of cycle components (Mealor Clarke), done teaching with kids for bike maintenance and have gone to the extreme of even making my own bike frame and my own components, with 2 new frame projects along the way this summer. I am fully capable of getting my hands round a bike, its not exactly rocket science.
  12. Thanks for your help Tomm Its a Marin Rocksprings, quite an old frame, possibly 10years old? So its possible the spring is tired, however the frames in awesome condition so i doubt its been used much! The only reason im using the preload right now is to make the bike rideable, otherwise it would be nearly fully compressed all the time. I think the frame is 16-17 inch, so it would come with a soft spring for a lighter rider, so maybe 400lb is the correct spring weight. I really dont want to be spending much on this, as i dont use it often enough to justify it, so those £25 springs i linked would be perfect I havent really found much info on the frame, i wouldnt know which forums to search either
  13. Thanks, I used that but its for the wrong shocks...will that make a difference? I just have a budget thing on there, but it works fine and seeing as I don't ride often, I cant justify changing! EDIT: the site seems to suggest a 600lb spring, does that sound about right?
  14. Daryll per chance? Personally i would try and agree some money back on the bike to make up for the problems (seeing as they will struggle to sell it if its buggered), fit a threadless bb (i know you have nice new cranks but they can wait til you get a new frame) then away you go.
  15. I am a little confused as to what spring I need for the rear of my marin. The shock is 19cm (7 1/4 inches)eye to eye The shock stroke is 5.5cm (2 inches) The spring is 5.5cm (2 inches) OD and 12cm (4.5inches) long The spring says (g400 550) on the side, i'm assuming its a 550lb spring, although that seems a little high so maybe its 400lb? The travel of the bike is 13cm (5inches) Even with the spring compressed as much as possible with the threaded washer thing, the suspension compresses halfway. I am nearly 15 stone, however aiming to be about 14. What spring do i need exactly? its for cross country use and id like a relatively stiff rear setup. I am thinking this spring in the 2" x 750 Llbs (For 190/200 Shock) size? Thanks in advance!
  16. Ah sorry, for some reason i thought you meant it wasnt a dispute in ebay, but in paypal, my bad. The only way you can prove that he asked once is by taking screen shots, basically just evidence it up. How much is the exhaust worth? I would still go for giving the option of a refund, if its not a particularly expensive exhaust then you can pretty much guarantee he wont bother
  17. I have had a similar problem in the past, and paypal tend to side with the buyer unfortunately. Request for him to send photos of the 'damage' that wasn't listed, and qoute the ebay listing to proove that he was made aware of the hole in the rear section. You can offer a full refund once you receive the item, but chances are the person wont bother as they have to pay the courier fee to get it back to you (you are not obliged to pay this), by making this offer of a refund and him not sending it back, he will therefore lose his entitlement to any refund.
  18. There are plenty of riders in lowestoft that i am sure would go over the bike and double check the shop isnt retarded (which is likely+they just want you to spend money there). With a bit of tlc, and guidance, you can get round all these problems.
  19. I am a bit like that, i hate having to text back every 5 seconds and things like that, i dislike using my phone because of this
  20. THIS. I just have had a few sessions due a locked vertebrae (very painful) and its amazing how quickly these guys can make you feel better. I had a twisted pelvis from an MX accident about 10 years ago, 5 years of doctors saying it was just muscular pain and it would heal itself, i saw a chiropractor and within 6 sessions i was back to normal again.
  21. In all fairness to them, when it came to repayment they were very easy going and understanding that i had zero money to give back to them at the time. They set up a very affordable £10 per month repayment scheme, although i ended up just paying the lot after i had some luck with selling crap on ebay
  22. I finished my first year of uni (moved to a different uni to start a new course the following year) and the students loans company took back £550 of my grant money claiming that i was not eligible as i 'didnt finish the year' which i had but they wouldnt accept that...gays
  23. I may do, seeing as i havent really got anything else planned What kinda of stuff will you guys be doing?
  24. Thanks to everybody that has helped with this, it is much appreciated! Far more responses than i had anticipated
