  1. I appreciate the `had mine and its fine` comments....hell` what more can you say right! But you all know/admit/read it someware that its gonna slip....at some point! Are you alright with that..considering we all likes are teeth and all that. I know it a zillion times better that shimano but, but, but! Y`all cool with that...its £130 vs £14 quid! Kill rates may differ And three hours....three years would be nice, oh well, I'm on me tod!
  2. Sorry, I meant the ProII t! Why do people say its a reliable hub, (any Hope)....but it will slip? I don't get that. So if every pawl/ratchet hub will slip.....why does anyone bother buying anything more than crapy shimano... unless you where building a wheel from scratch and wanted sealed bearings? Just to lesson the chance or something.........its that one deadly slip I'm worried about! H`mmm.... it's like the reverse of wearing a helmet, `one day it will save your life` vs `one day it will kill you`? And all the folks who rave about the ProIIt, ain't you reading the posts and thinking `oh shit..they slip`? I think I will build that rim/freehub combo I thought of.........and die! PS: I don't mean to go on, I just feel its very....no ULTRA important! thanks as always.
  3. Ah` man, I crunched my Shimano freehub again, so it won’t coast without catching chain etc….and snapped my chain 5min later while I was angry and trying to rip the ratchet too bits……..bugger! I’ve been thinking about buying a Hope, (prob sick of me asking) for ages as you guys seem to rate them, but the XC seems to come with it’s own problems (snapping axles , freehub body digging into ratchet-wtf!.......and the same skipping problems my Shimano has, weather that be at the beginning or end of its life! And all for £80, plus wheel build and spokes.....and no service....oh` please! The ProII seems to have eliminated the first two problems plus the one year warranty, but I can’t see how any pawl/ratchet system won’t slip when the pawl edge hit’s the ratchet edge and loudly decides where its going to sit…while chipping the ratchet teeth in the process. I honestly don’t think stronger springs will completly cure this…..if I think about it! And yes, I try to preload but I’m not relying on that to save my life every time, especially considering the price they charge. So come on....please....last time I promise....what’s the deal with XC and ProII hubs..are they gonna slip on me? PS: I phoned Hope to ask “can you guarantee me the expensive ProII hub will not slip at least with in the first year” Dude said “NO” That was dissapointing. But you guys use them so I’m keen to hear your opinions. Oh` and I checked the old ProII thread but there is no real gritty info to be found! Can you tell I’ve had a bad day………hope I kept things friendly? Sos for the rant....Cheers folks!
  4. It would be handy if I had a seatpost to attach it too!
  5. What does `Ti-Glide` mean? Titainium........er` Sos, for thread pinch!
  6. To save barging into another thread.........Question: Is it possible to bodge an A-B gear (20 X 11/12 dunno, tech ratio), when you have a SS-hub / ACS combo on the back? Don't want it on the front for the usuall reasons. I want the cheapness, strength, ep's of this set-up but I've got to have a travell gear or I'd give up the sport! My current shimano-cassette bodge gives me 20 X 18 / 20 X 16 and 20 X 12 / 20 X 11. I can't see no way out of this one except wack a stinking 32 somethin tooth chainring on the front....like that's gonna work!! and I so want it...........anything I'm not thinking off?
  7. Well if I had to pick between the bikes in the photos...I'd say the RED one, although that's not a great shade IMO! But if you could get gold parts that don't look orange, like in the picture....then GOLD! Both shades are horrid in the photo's Whatever...I hardly changed the red one, but this is more the gold look I'd go for! hope you didn't mind?
  8. Oh` that's gotta hurt! NO pictures please! Get well soon.
  9. I wish I never had to Oh` that fatefull day!
  10. I was thinking centrifugal forces .......I know! Lighter..thanks.
  11. Thanks Jez, that's some good advice that rings true! MOST of your weight on the forward pedal....that's something I'm not really doing and I think I know what you mean about using the right to get most of the power down, finishing with your pedals level to hop...I'll try that! Although I am swaying towards changing, as I can imagine it working better with the right...just can't backhop well enough yet:$ . Today was boring with the right though, but I've got to improve! Thanks for the help roozor: I know man...I was getting desperate
  12. Woot, your right! The bits of metal I found in there, had to be the ratchet teeth then! Here is a picture of the pawls carriers....looked like three, don't know what the third one/thing is for though? Do they engage at the same time or are they offset? It get's worse!
  13. As I couldn't find any good pics of the internals of a shimano freehub body...I thought I'd take an old one apart...like you do! I'm the guy with that freehub/rim thingy idea.....I couldn't stop myself! Well one pawl had turned to dust leaving only the two, the tiny, er` `spring` had snapped and the ratchet was missing some teeth...which is nice! No great surprise for a lot of you I know, just thought some shimano user might want to see, and laugh, and cry! I'm saving for a ProII, what a leap in technology that will be! I just thought of something! er`, on shimano's the pawls are fixed and the ratchet turns, where as Hopes work the other way round, fixed ratchet....does this make any difference? Not in making Hopes the better hub, just in the general design? Forgive the fairly useless post!
  14. Make sure you power down with your `strongest foot`, not like that dufus in that `changing foot` post! K`
  15. Don't see why not! Been spraying stuff with hellfrauds paint for years...no probs. Although, don't blame me if your lid melts!
  16. When you land, stick your arse out a bit more/arms straight to balance the bike. Watch a vid of yourself...that will help you! Goodluck!
  17. It's weird.....I can get the bike on the back wheel with a little left kick etc, little jabs are fine, but when it comes to bringing it round 3/4 to put the power down combined with pulling the bars evenly, its like I'm afraid to put all my weight on the pedal or something!. Drives me crazy! Another thing, when I'm on the back wheel most of my weight is on the right/back pedal....I have to force myself to put SOME pressure on the forward pedal!! And when I kick, its more of a flick the back wheel forward..with me not gaining distance, that can't be good me thinks! Works so natually with the right, but the thought of re-learning to backhop seems depressing when I was having so much fun...at the cost of progression mind! I'll try and ride a full day on the right...that's gonna be boring! Thanks for advice!
  18. .........Ages ago, I decided to ride left foot forward or rather right foot back, to absorb the harsh flat landing at my local jumps….IDIOT! Then progressed to rhythm sections with minimal success, bars kept on turning in mid air! h`mmmm! So I gets into trials, learns the basics, backhops/trackstands/pivots etc…took a while as well! That eventually turned into small pedal hops, drops/gaps etc, not great ones but I got em. Now I’m facing problems with bigger stuff and pedal-ups…even slow rolling ones! Now that I need to put some power though the bike and keep the bars straight, I’m completely crap at it! My bars turn left, the bike goes to the right...its a bloody mess and really getting on my nerves! I’ve blagged it for as long as I can, but I’m actually considering starting over again with my right forward? Today I tried to get my front wheel on something with my right putting the power down…no probs, bars straight, loads of power, cool! Tried a backhop and fell on my arse......legs where like, WTF.....it was bad!! :$ Should I persist? I know it’s a `you can only decide` kinda thing….. just wondering what you “I ride left foot forward, but I kick a ball with my right” folks think! Oh` the horror!
  19. Avid for me! `EASY` to use and setup, combined with the great power and ok modulation makes this the brake for me! Then again, I don't have a Hope.....but I imagine they are pain to setup / change pads / bleed etc, as most huydrolic disk brake's are!
  20. Welcome to the forum...let's see some pics!

    Hope

Yeah` could you? I just phoned Hope who were pretty confused about the situation, in that he had no idea what I was talking about! He was very pleasant though and gave me the opinion that both the XC and Pro2 would be repaired under `trials use` for 1 year and then they would do their best for me after that time (although still unaware of the policy change)-nice guy though! I was expecting a longer warrenty for the Pro2 maybe...just to say "this thing kick ass". But still....I'd like to see their official opinion on things! I'm just trying to inspire some confidence in buying the Pro2, in that I won't get stuck in a situation where I'm sending it back now and then throughout the first year.(unacceptable to me for the price on both hubs) I know where there coming from (buy anything-fix anything), but I think the new hub should come with some extra backing that it's gonna do what it say's on the tin! It's a consumer essential
  22. Yeah, I bought one a few months back.(hard centre) I love it, great tread pattern and the grip seems as good as the `super tacky` tyre I had used previous. I'm not the type of rider using it to it's grip limits though, so? Just saying I like it and would defo buy another. Looks like it gonna last a lot longer also. And lighter!

    Hope

I wish Hope would explain their view's clearly on their website rather than leaving us scratching our heads. I'm still none the wiser as to how the warranty applies to trials riding with an XC hub and without Waynio advise, would have been slightly cheesed if I had bought a hub recently on the basis of the word of mouth free service. Hope's "the hope freehub digs in then leaves bits inside the ratchet and then gets pushed around with the pawls and springs and grinds things away." "to be honest hopes are realiable as fook anyway and you wont need to shell out that often." "I mean I can make the freehub touch the ratchet ring with my bare hands on a hope hub." `Rear Hubs`.....the most depressing thing about trials!
