  1. Is there any special way of setting up the cleats on my shoes? As I have heard if its not done right they can wear your knees out. Or should I just fiddle about until I find what feels comfy? The guy in the bike shop wasn't much help. Gracias.
  2. Oh nice. The other week I decorated my room (still a few finishing touches to go), but it was the first time I have done something like it 100% on my own, although I found it a bit boring at times, there is something quite satisfying/rewarding about it once its all done. Good luck with it.
  3. Catch Me If You Can Apollo 13 The Bourne Identity/Supremacy The Beach Watched Lucky Number Slevin for the first time the other night - thought that was awesome...
  4. out of date. (not that there is anything wrong with that). if you dontt plan on making large prints from your pictures, then they will be fine. as your just starting out, its probably worth looking for something like a d50/d70 - i can get good clean 12x18 inch prints out of mine no problem, plus they are easy to use and generally work very well. if you prefer canon, try a 300d/350d, i'm sure they work just as well. you can't go wrong with anything mentioned above.
  5. yeah, you could get a nikon d50 for that kinda price new... or look for a canon eos 350d or nikon d70s as both have just been replaced with some new models. or, if you want secondhand, keep an eye out for nikon d100, fuji S3 pro, canon eos 10d or if your lucky a 20d... plenty of choce, and you can't go wrong with any of the above.
  6. i'm not to sure... hopefully doing something similar to what i do now, except i'd like to work for myself. probably living in a small house somewhere, don't know where, isle of wight would be pretty cool. 10 years seems like ages away, although i bet the time fly's by. now i think about it i wish i had a stronger game plan... and old man xc rides don't sound to bad either.
  7. To start off with defiantly go for a film camera, as mentioned above it will make you think more, instead of snapping away etc... The first two projects I did on a btec were pinhole and transparency film - both great ways to help to you understand how a camera works and about exposure and the other technical aspects (getting that out the way before doing the creative stuff). I'd recommend shooting a load of transparency film as its so sensitive, to help you see how different light temperatures effect the colouring in images, also because it is so sensitive it will teach you to bracket your shots/see how it effects an image directly, rather than having it altered in the printing stage.. You could do this on colour negative film, but unless you do the printing yourself the lab will correct the colours and exposure unless your exposure is way off and beyond repair (unless you specifically ask them not to, and even then the colours you get from the print won't be as perfect/accurate as a transparency). Oh and another benefit of transparencies is the quality is a lot better than conventional print film. Side note: You may have to send your slide film off to a pro lab, rather than a snappy snaps type place as they won't do the E6 processing (or very rarely)... I recommend metro in London (the one just off of oxford street - last time i checked it was open 24/7 - great service) Any way, have fun.
  8. I did a photography ND at college and pretty much just worked my arse off for two years, got a triple distinction... and decided i'd have a go at getting a job (thinking it would be fairly easy with good grades and a strong portfolio), hopefully getting some real life experience. It took me ages to find a job in the industry, but i eventually got one, ok so its not my dream job, but at the end of the day its a great way to build up experience in a working environment, dealing with clients etc.. the kind of stuff college/uni can't prepare you for. Anyways... it would probably help to go to a job centre type place, that way they might be able to find you something you are remotely interested in, even if its not your dream job, its experience and a step in the right direction. Hope that was of a little help, if not sorry.
  9. a little question: the kit tyres on my xc bike lack grip - when its dry and dusty they are usable, so it hasn't been a huge problem up until now - after we have had some rain and its muddy... i went out today, was sliding all over the place, and had to walk up steep hills because i had no traction at all, was just wheel spinning without going forwards. so can anyone recommend me some good winter tyres? (no more than £20 - £25 each) that will be nice and grippy and last until early spring? (sorry to steal your thread a bit, but i figured it wasn't worth starting a new one)
  10. Find out what size screw thread your lens takes (should be written on the back of the lens cap i.e 58mm. If it says 58mm then it should, in theory fit. May be checking with where ever you are buying it from if it will work ok with your camera model... Apparently this will fit Link
  11. I have an xc bike, and mostly use it on road, although i do enjoy the odd off road ride. Dying to get a road bike though...
  12. I had a similar price range when I was looking to buy an xc bike. I went for a scott scale 60 - cost £580, I really couldn't fault it. If you want to spend more you could look at the scale 50 (next model up), but for the price I dont think you could do better. Its light(ish - for the money), hasn't broken yet (not even had a puncture) and handles really really well.
  13. I do... (xc - although most of my riding is done on the roads) Could be cool as I only ride it on my own.
  14. both are very good, can't go wrong with either. just pick what you prefer. there have been loads of threads asking pretty much this same question, so i'm sure there will be some useful info lying about somewhere on here...
  15. me and a few others wrapped a bit of string around the outside perimeter of college once, didn't quite make it all the way around, but almost. wow, what an exciting life i lead
  16. edit fat boy slim: right here right now - awesome video although, not sure if its what you are really looking for...
  17. Ever wondered what happens when a bike, a scooter and a running machine make love? (Of course you have) - here is the result Link I'm not sure whether to like it or hate it... Check out the "gnarliest" trials course they do on the video.
  18. Surely the whole point of a business is to make as much as money as you can... if they just brought out the best one straight away, everyone would have one, so they would no longer be making profits on new sales and eventually go bankrupt. So bringing out a new one every year makes sense from a business point of view as there will always be people wanting to waste their money on the latest technology gizmos.
  19. That's what I thought. Worked my ass off for the last few years, but it just doesn't seem to be happening. Good luck anyway though!
  20. Just like the other 97% of the universes population
  21. I'm an out of work photographer... if that counts? I think I need to think of something else to do, but I don't know what, photography is all I have known for the past two+ years... Edit: I take that back, I found a Job
  22. what is wrong with will smith? i buy his albums and listen to him all the time? i also like natasha bedingfield, natalie imbruglia and a load of other "gay" stuff... sorry for not being a hardcore rocker! (oh, and im not embarrassed about listening to any of it either - why should i be?)
  23. Number plates on bikes to stop people from breaking the law.... next everyone will have to wear a number plate so they can catch people doing other crimes - with or without transport. The world is starting to seem more and more like George Orwell's book 1984.
  24. If I were you, I'd buy either four 1gb cards or two 2gb cards: simply because - if your 4gb card messes up, you are going to loose 4gb worth or images (assuming this is for a camera), but if you have a 1gb card and it screws you over, you only loose 1gb's worth - and the other 3 will be fine. I personally don't use anything over 1gb for that very reason. As for makes, you can't really go wrong with Sandisk or Lexar card's.
