Im pretty sure smoothing off the welds isnt going to effect the strength that much, seeing as its purposely done in the engineering trade.

To be honest, thats just the experience Ive/my families had. Thats why I suggested a German car, they will last and last and you should be able to pick one up quite cheap.

The way I see it is, the cheaper it is now, the more expensive its going to be in the long run. Try get yourself a German car if you can.
