Reminiscing and ranting

Being a fan of beer, moustaches, checked shirts and old school bikes, this video is amazing!

However watching it at my desk in work, I realised that I haven't had a good session out riding with some mates in a long long time!!

I remember the days of heading out with tinnies on a summer, having a session, a few beers, riding home, dropping the bikes off, hitting a few bars then repeating most weekends and some evenings.

Now I muster a few hours a week on the bike around work and family, bills swallow up my every penny that I am down to one bike and for a while I have had that feeling of losing all interest in bikes for a year now which is nuts as I have always loved riding as long as I could pedal.

This sucks!

Have many of you encountered this...?

Yep, exactly the same here mate.

Growing up sucks in some respects that's for sure!

Don't you mix quite allot? Use that time instead?

Funnily enough i'm trying to get away from riding in a way. Think that's probably quite a weird thing to read for most.

While i highly enjoy the social side of riding, i'm init for the riding first. There are friends to be had everywhere, and while i did some stupid/ fun stuff with bikes when younger, i also did other stupid/ fun stuff without the bike. Yeah it was more fun with the bike, but that's because of what i said before. I think you're just nostalgic and wouldn't enjoy it like you remember even if you had the same scene. 'specially seeing as you've mentioned bars and beers. You're probably just craving to be younger.

I know how you feel mate. Haven't had a bike for years and am constantly reminiscing about rides in london until the last train home, drinking beers in reading bus station and falling off of some foreign dudes bike (brakes other way round). Being a grown up isn't as fun as it looked when I was younger!

That is a case of over-exposure to such top end graphics etc in the latest consoles that the old ones which were jaw dropping for their day just suck in comparison now...

I dug out my old GameCube to play on, managed about 30 mins then got annoyed and turned on the ps3

SNES Mario Kart and Mario World, will never get old.

Also in for the growing up is shite malarky, if I'm lucky I currently get maybe 2 hours tops riding in a week. This means that if I want to do anything else with my time like go to the gym then I don't ride at all which sucks ass. This does however make the odd full days out riding I do extra special though to be fair the last 2 I planned on going to I haven't been able to make. Next week will be different though, unless it bloody snows!

Nope, I barely ever mix.

Being a settled down adult means I don't get an awful lot of spare time - the time I have now is dedicated to growing my photography business.

Fair shout. I just presumed you did.

I dug my N64 out and bougth Diddy Kong racing and Mario Kart 64, complete let down. Though the talk about playing it again was far more exciting than playing it. Had to buy Mario Kart Wii instead.

This is often true for allot of people; you do after all prioritise the good times in your memory.

You guys and getting older, how old are you guys? pfff. You made the growing up choice yourselves, you can easily reverse it, if you dare :P

I know i'm not that old, only 30. But with a kid and a responsible job etc I do find it hard to be able to getting a hall pass from the mrs to go ride my bike and have a few beers ha ha.

I think it just sneaks up on people

I've been making a massive effort to try to just find an hour at least to ride every weekend since earlier in the year, and it's been going well. That means I've probably already ridden more this year than I did the whole of last year, but it's still nowhere near where I want to be. On the whole beers and socialising bit though, that still seems to happen 9 times out of 10 that I ride with other people - I think it's all about having people around in similar situations. We're all getting older and we probably all want to ride more than we do (except you Nick, obviously!) so the socialising revolves around that rather than the early beauty of having no responsibilities and most things being 'new'.

That is a sound idea!

I am trying to sort out something for my birthday like a bike ride and some surfing (again something I have done even less of), but the plan is just get a load of people and make a day or two of it somewhere different...

If I warn the GF now and get it in the calendar for July I reckon I can pull it off
