Do you cover the front brake lever when tapping?

Greetings

Indeed this poll does have a title.

  1. 1. Finger on front brake or not?

Recommended Posts

Following Dan's poll, I was wondering if there are riders who don't cover the front brake lever when tapping? One of my very old riding buddies picked this up from an Andrew Tonkery vid of Hermance back in 2005 I think. I soon followed and have been tapping like this ever since. Find it way easier but then again, it's probably all in my head anyway. Any other firm believers of this method?

Interesting topic Alex.

Oddly, I do a bit of both.

for 95% of my riding, I'll cover the front brake, taps, gaps, everywhere.

if I'm really struggling with a big tap, or a big static gap, I'll not cover the front brake and hold the bar death grip on that side. Usually does the trick and gets me up / across something I was previously struggling with

technically, if it's still spinning, there will by a gyroscopic effect of some sorts which will help keep you upright!

And when you pull the brake it pulls the front forwards and down. Some times its the difference between jumping back and keeping it for me.

I think they do some thing similar on motor bikes with the high jumps.

Yeah in terms of motorbikes (jumps) pulling the front brake lowers the front
