PM/FB Ogre mate. He just bought some he rates pretty highly so he's done more recent research than the rest of the geeks on here.

Generally speaking swapping screens in laptops is a piece of piss. If I were you I'd strip it down, take out the current broken screen, take pics, email them to the seller and ask if it's identical to theirs, if it is then buy one, fit it and profit.

Think I may have some at my Dad's Mike. From memory it's 2x512mb, with a motherboard and 2.4ghz/2.66ghz P4 (non-HT). I'll get the proper specs tomorrow and PM/FB/Text you.

There's a topic in the News about the new TF look or something similar, people have been sticking suggestions in there. Might also be worth PMing tomturd about it.

Does not sound easy. Have you tried a cattle prod? Just an idea.

I've used them both, Opera is much faster than the standard browser, has the speed dial feature amongst others which are mad useful. I would ideally want to do away with the pressing of the middle button to load current apps, and just have them clickable from the task manager. I understand how the OS works, I run a LAMP server locally for web development. Not the same but the basics of the Linux kernal are pretty similar. No I'm using 2.1. I've compared the Galaxy S to an iPhone 3GS with iOS4 and I'd much rather have the iPhone, while the Galaxy S is thinner and lighter, it seems to get bogged down a lot more often.

Anyone know when this special will be on the iplayer? Been sat here refreshing for over an hour now.
-
On the Galaxy S? Mainly just 3rd party apps, like the Opera web browser not supporting jQTouch. But the task manager really annoys me. You can view currently running apps and end them, but to maximise them you have to hold the middle button to bring up another menu.

I went for a Samsung Galaxy S recently on Orange, £30 a month, no down payment. Only downside is the 3G coverage is pretty wank. Phone itself has one or two flaws, but nothing bad. I kinda wish I'd gone for the iPhone, but it was £15 a month more expensive with a big down payment at the beginning. EDIT: I wouldn't get the Desire or Desire HD. The screens are pretty low quality, and my Mum's bloke has had nothing but trouble with his Desire.

You can get cat flaps which only your cat can get into and out of. Google secure cat flaps or summat.

Should be the shed/garage/workshop thread then.

An oldy but I likey. My mate and I got 2008 long Echo Lites at the same time, so I was rebuilding our bikes at the same time. The two spare Echo Lite frames were mine, the Koxx was his, the full build with carbon forks was mine and the other one was his. Good times.
-
I would probably start riding again just to own that frame.

Love it. Basically just v10 but improved. The mouse gestures bit is excellent. The new Mail panel was the only thing that I was really missing, but it's got some other stuff in too! Will give it a proper look over next week. May end up moving over to Opera as my main browser now. Already use it in Ubuntu on my netbook because it's so much faster than Firefox.

I can't remember where that rotor is from, but I remember it. It is just a Mono Trial rotor clamped in a vice and gently caressed with an angle grinder. Took forever and saved about 5g. I was thinking about doing it but never bothered.

The guidelines don't say, "Only make a new topic if the Happy Thread, Angry Thread, BOTI, RSQ, Car Thread, PC Tech Support or Bike Thread won't do".

If you can't find the right thing by doing the above, unplug it from the mains and press the power-button to discharge it, remove the sidepanel, pop the battery off the motherboard, wait 30 secs, refit the battery, refit the sidepanel, plug it back in and boot it up. This will reset the BIOS back to stock, so you will lose any custom settings that have been set. Probably won't make much difference to that computer, but it may require some fettling afterwards.

Some shit's going down. If you watch them with VLC, there's an option to advance or delay the sound over the video. Doesn't fix your problem, just means you'll be able to watch them.

Ah right. What kinda budget do you have for it? One of my friends has that, it's a good laptop but for gaming it's just not up to it. She can't even run Black Ops on it, let alone Crysis or anything hard work.

If you want to game, a laptop is the wrong way to go IMO. A decent gaming laptop is around £1500, but you can build a much more powerful desktop for half that.

Either 1x1gb of 533 or 2x2gb of 1066. 1066 is ideal for overclocking, because you have to overclock it on the FSB to get it there. The highest "standard" of DDR2 is 800mhz, using an x4 multiplier and the 200mhz FSB. (200x4=800mhz). This means that to get it up to 1066mhz, you need to overclock your system on the FSB. (266x4-1066). In my brothers system, that meant I could get it the CPU from 2.6ghz to 3.4ghz with very little hassle. Just turn up the FSB, and turn up the CPU voltage until it was stable. I agree with your first mate on the RAM front, but I doubt very much your CPU is a bottleneck. BFBC2 doesn't even stress my Phenom 2 965BE, it goes up to about 30-40% load. Your CPU is still easily fast enough not to be maxed otu when you're playing IMO. The second guy could also be right, but he says more RAM = faster loading times? I disagree to be honest; faster RAM would be faster, having 8gb instead of 4gb just means it has more space to store stuff when it finally gets the data to the RAM. No, VGA, DVI or HDMI will all be fine. After reading this I'd say it's the RAM definately. IMO you need 2x2gb at a high speed for BFBC2 to be happy. Bear in mind if you go for 1066mhz or higher ram, if you don't overclock then it will run at 800mhz, so if you want to avoid overclocking then just go for 800mhz.
