What OS will you be running? I've just wiped my netbook and installed Ubuntu Netbook remix. Much faster than W7 or XP, might be worth a look if you fancy breathing some new life into your netbook.

I can't really advise as to makes and models I'm afraid, I know jack shit about laptops. Netbooks I'm slightly more up on, although I don't know about the specific models. I only really know the Samsung NC10 anyway, as I have one (did have two, one as a Hackbook project that failed).

It will make a slight difference, but there are far better socket 775 CPUs out there that can be had for less. My brother is running an E5300, it's currently sat at 3.46ghz on stock voltages (up from 2.66ghz). I'd recommend getting the E5400, and 4gb of 1066mhz ram. This will mean you can leave the multipliers alone, and simply up the FSB to 267mhz, meaning the RAM will be running at just over its full 1066mhz (highest default is 800mhz for DDR2), but the CPU will be running at 3.60ghz. That's the route I'd take with a dual core, if you fancy a quad I believe the Q6600 is considered to be the best value socket 775 quad, but I have no experience with them. It can recognise roughly 3.5gb total RAM. This includes the graphics RAM. Because I have 2 1gb graphics cards, if I was running 32bit it would only recognise 1.5gb of the system RAM. (I think, no evidence to back this up, just what I can remember from forum chat). Definitely upgrade to W7 64bit as well, it runs so much smoother and quicker than Vista for me. I have the Professional version, because it was free through my Uni, the home version would do though, most of the extra features are a bit pointless IMO. For video editing you need a strong CPU and lots of RAM. I would go for a decent quad and at least 4gb of RAM. You could get by with a dual core and 2gb, but it would take a while to render.

Ubuntu Desktop, 64bit if it'll run. Although to be honest I wouldn't bother with it on it's own, I have semi-moved to Ubuntu several times over the last few years, and have been running it dual boot on my Netbook for nearly a year, always end up going back to W7.

When I click sign in, on the home page, the pop-up box prompts for username, not email address.

I had BF2BC, hated the mouse movement with a passion. Tried modding it but never got on with it. I like running round tropical islands in a superman suit decimating korean soldiers before they even realise I'm there.

How old is the monitor? I'm willing to bet if you compare like with like, (28" at 1080p), that the monitor will win hands down in the pic quality stakes.

40-50? What card have you got?! My 5830s are overclocked to 900/1125 up from 800/1025 stock, and I get 43fps in the benchmark. EDIT: What res is that at? I'm on 1920x1200.

Just get a 128mm bb, sorted. Although I preferred to run the shortest BB possible when I rode, because my feet were closer together. Dunno why, just felt more comfortable.

That's not a monitor, it's a telly. Should be reet but I've heard the picture quality is often not ideal for computer purposes. Are you certain it's 1080p and not 1080i? Have you checked you have the latest graphics card drivers installed?
