    Forks

Just curious of how many people are going through forks like there is no tomorrow. I have broken 6 forks I wouldn't think that was bad going if it had been over 6 years. But its more when I started learning trials riding it wasn't really a problem. I purchased a set of fatty-rs and they lasted around 3 years. But when I had them front wheel moves didn't seem so common. Now forks seem to be lasting me around 4 to 6 months. I think its amazing that they do last this long considering the amount of abuse they get. But if this is common maybe it's time for a bigger steerer tube like on some suspension forks? Or just heavier stronger forks that still have some flex in them so it doesn't pass the stress on to the head tube?
  4. Do you run the lockring you get with the shimano cassettes? I'm using a tiagra 8spd (6 gears)cassette and because the lock ring thread only just reaches the freehub i think i have done the thread in. With a questionably accurate tape measure the freehub space for the cassette to fit on is about 28mm. If thats any help. No it should be fine i say 28mm.
  5. Contact Terry his number is on the bike trial uk site. I'm not sure if he will let you enter on the day I think they would have to sort out insurance? But if you speak to Terry you will find out everything you need to know.

  7. sorry it doesnt look like a direct link to the page works, from the start of the GT site you can get to it by going to: United Kingdom > Mountain > Team > Gallery > Videos. I thought it looked pretty big.
  8. That's really funny. Someone came out of the estate agents we were riding by to say "Can the person with the squeaky bike not ride near here because its distracting" or something along those lines.

  10. Love this video the riding is... I also thought the editing is super good, keeps the flow of riding going I think you always see just enough and not too much of each line. The part at 1:56 looks extra impossible?
  11. amazing riding, i found this video worked ok on my pc if i used quick time. thanks
  12. cool video, you make those sidehops look easy even though they are masoooove. The gap jump at 45 seconds looks extremely big!
  13. I'm running the XTR cable it feels good. I used a nokon for a while it gave a very solid feel but i don't know of any where you can just buy the inner casing that's inside the metal parts. So when you wear it out you might have problems. I think as long as you have a cable that does not have a coating i.e. Teflon, you can make it work pretty well with some GT85 or something similar. The coated cables seem to work ok at first but when the coating wears off it just seems to clog up the cable. Be careful if you are spraying lube on the cable with the disc!!! I learnt that lesson... If you get some cable oilers (middleburn make some) it makes it really easy to lube your brake.
  14. It might help learning them if you keep one foot on the floor and use your forward foot to practice. The positions are as if you are looking at the drive side of the bike. I think to have the cranks just above horizontal level would make it easiest (probably near the 1 - 2 o' clock position. Point your toes towards the ground enough to get a hold on the pedal to spin the cranks. Then practice bringing the pedal up then remove your foot i think at about just before the 12 o' clock position and see if you can get the rotation. After you remove your foot put it back in the place you started at so you can not miss the cranks if they spin enough (your foot can obviously be flat now). Then maybe try it with both feet on the pedals, just ride along slowly. Lightly jump but before your feet leave the pedals apply the technique with your front foot. I think with your back foot it will be pretty natural what to do. If you start with the cranks completely horizontal as you are lightly jumping move them backwards so the front crank goes to about the 1 - 2 o' clock position then you can use what you have practised from that place. I think all of this is done in one fluid motion. You can use your arms to give more time in the air to allow the cranks time to spin, I think if you lean to far over the bars it wont look right though. As you get better at it you will probably not need to do this so much. I found you can spin the cranks much quicker if you just slide the front foot off of the side of the pedal but it wears out your shoes pretty fast! It might be worth wearing some leg protection I remember cutting my legs loads of time trying to nail a crank. I really have no idea if that makes any sense? Don't blame me if by reading this you got worse at them .

    My New Video

Just downloaded this, excellent riding i'm liking the rail ride and wheel swap on the rail! That place with the rocks looks soo good.
  16. Nice video, excellent riding! Are those places local riding spots ?
  17. Ooops. Sorry I read the first post & quickly read the others. I have never noticed the shape of the saint crank to be a problem. Its probably a good idea to change the bash guard, I bent one of the outer chain rings with the Shimano bash guard although this may have been bad luck as since I noticed the bend i didn't notice it getting any worse. Is it the new E13 smaller bash your after? sounds cool. It might be worth taking the cranks off of your other bike to be sure they will fit. Then all you have to check is the bash guard clears the frame. The Woodstock looks like it has short chain stays and if it can fit a large rear tyre the chain stays might be too wide. The only other thing I've noticed is this might not be related but my knees have been aching and the only thing I think I have done different recently is change my cranks, pedals and shoes. I'm going to switch back to middleburns now because they do not fit the frame i have now. I guess I'll be noticing the flex at first.
  18. I used them on a smooth planet-x bmf rim for a while and it was possibly the best I have ever had a brake working in the dry, I have no idea why it worked so well (maybe some magic dust on the rim). The only problem is if I got the rim even slightly wet the brake didn't work at all which is a hazard!
  19. I have been using the saint cranks for a little while, I never tried the shimano chainring because some of the reviews I have read don't seem that good and I didn't want to risk it. When I put them on my Echo Hi Fi with an Echo 06 rim the cranks did not clear the Magura cylinders if I wanted the brake set up properly. Also the chainring is really close to the frame. I found it works ok with a 38mm rim. I've just changed my frame and the saint cranks do not fit. Chainstays stick out to far for them. They do feel mega stiff though. I think Ryan Leech could be using the Hone Cranks with Truvativ 22t Bashguard?? Thats a guess from what I can see in the video. If you go under the Shows and click on "View the trials of life promo video...".
  20. Yeah I got invited to the Try outs in essex, the video used was a little bit different I have lost some of the footage now. I think in this edit it has the best parts of what was filmed. Andy made a video when I was riding the Base, its nbr 4 it can be found here if your interested. http://tv.isg.si/site/?q=filebrowser/NBRTrials thanks
  21. I'm not to sure why that happens? The bike i'm riding in the video is an Identiti Judge. lol thanks Simon, I haven't seen you and your lot since Portsmouth ages ago I think I shold come out of the area a little bit more...
  22. Massive moves going down! The timing on the drop to wheelie tap was perfect nicely done!
  23. sick video, loads of variation and it all looks amazing.
  24. Hello, Just looking through old videos I thought I would share this one. It's a video I made when I wanted to send something into the Base bikes sponsorship thing. http://www.biketrials.btinternet.co.uk/Test.mpg Thanks, Daniel
