Find some old bars, cut x length off each end, stick a slightly smaller diameter tube inside (emphasis on slightly, needs to be really tight), with plenty going into what will be the extension and also plenty to go into the original bars, then just whack 'em in. Job done. EDIT: or you could put the smaller diameter tube into the bar first, then the extension over tht, whatever way would work fine.
