I find the BB7 has more bite and locks the wheel more easily and the BB5 has more modulation
Edit: Although I have an SD7 lever for the BB7 and the BB5 has the other Avid one (the standard one) so that'll make a difference
I always seem to have the same problem, yet I can see the pads move as soon as I move the lever, even without the pads in. If you find a solution let me know

Get one of those thumb print detectors, train your cat to operate it, and then the cat flap opens. The other cat's paw print won't be registered so I can't get in. Problem solved.
