The bike racks that mount to the back of the car can dent the bootlid (On estates/ People carriers) if even slightly to tight. On our old citreon C5 the dent was so bad it looked like we'd been in an accident. Roof racks are fine, unless your an idiot and hit the car while fitting it or putting the bike on it.
