If the fork has worn as badly as the photo Dez just posted I'm sure you could just fit new seals and be happy but ideally it's new fork/stanchion time!

Went to the BTCC at Thruxton today with Prawn and Mogli. Saw some pit girls, got sunburn, saw some close racing and a few cars leave the track, happy days Went to look at a 2005 Passat 1.9 TDI 130bhp Highline yesterday, it was exceptionally tidy but was on 152k so the price would have only been ok if the service records were perfect. It had loads of receipts but no record of a clutch change, the front disks were badly worn and it was due its second cam belt in 8k. I walked away.

This is appropriate for the angry thread - Buying a car when you don't have a car to go and look at cars is a nightmare, to make it worse I don't have insurance so cannot easily test drive cars that are being sold privately. That is the more widely used 'Standard' in DH although some playful short travel 'freeride' frames (Specialized Status and Scott Voltage FR for example) use 135mm axles, I think they are both 135mm x 10mm

Mid life crisis time... I don't want to 'limit' myself to Leon's and have been thinking about getting an estate. This summer I plan to be travelling around with my bikes LOADS so the larger boot space of an estate is appealing. I'm not sure I will be doing high enough mileage to warrant a diesel but still want to get 35mpg on a long run. I also still want something with respectable acceleration that is comfortable to drive. I like the look of A4's and Passat's. With a £4000ish maximum budget what models should I be looking at?

Yeah it was me who recommended it when it was cheap, I wouldn't pay full price for one and I don't think I would recommend one now after having used it for a longer period of time and changing to a E13 device. I think the version you are using will be fine, the one designed to be used without a bash guard, the one I had that was designed to be used with a bash (so different top guide) was utter crap and the chain jumped out sometimes when pedalling on rough stuff because it was not fully enclosed. The roller and top guide was all cheap nasty plastic shit as well. E13 might be much more expensive but in my opinion you cannot get better chain guides! If you are after 150mm forks check out the Rockshox Sector, you can get the 2013 Dual Position Coil version brand new for £320 and they are a much better fork than the price suggests.

If I don't buy another LC and you are on a budget I have brand new F+R discs and pads that I can do for a good price
