I would go for a Canon 600d or equivalent, a lens around 11-20mm (wide angle not fisheye), maybe a 50mm for fancy stuff or a 28-200mm, an external mic with a wind cock and a GorillaPod If you're willing to pour more money into this I would recommend the new canon 80d, I used it for one weekend and I fell in love. 1080p 60fps and a good lens really is next level.

@Mark W I think its too far gone, it flashed up a thermostat symbol and poo'd itself. even if I fire it up from cold and start shooting it hits the 1min mark and dies. I'm guessing something has shorted on the board somewhere. going to look for some error logs on ML.

My mk1 7d overheated whilst filming the radfest video. After 1 minute of filming it cuts off, the top screen shows Error 80 and I have to turn it off by pulling the battery out. what do? I really can't afford this.
