  1. I've had a few bb7's, standard Avid sintered pads on a g2cs or roundagon rotor work the best. Oddesey linear slic cable, avid sd7 lever. So powerful it was unreal. Too much for a mod, on s par with an m810 Saint. It was very on or off, not much modulation, but that's what you want for pure trials

that's why I like my Deore, it's got really good modulation but still holds like a bitch when you need it to
  2. The highly eccentric nature of my echo sl was starting to get on my nerves, it would be over tensioned at one point and no tension at another. So, following some simple instructions, I made a spoke tensioner. As I dont have snail can bolt holes, I put the end if the spoke through the hole in the chainstay to the top right if the axle bolt. Works a treat. Makes a noise like a dying seal, but I dont mind that. Anyone found a more effective style if spoke tensioner? I'm interested to try out different ways of spoke tensioning , if there are any.

  3. Standard Avids. I don't think there were aftermarket pads available at that time. This was a good few years ago. On an avid rotor (original, G1?).

nothing really went better than avid pads with an avid rotor, I've heard horror stories of different rotors messing with the performance
  4. Ignore him, he is a moron who can't ride for shit and therefore has no useful input.

For what it's worth, lever feel can be greatly improved with a decent set up, decent cable and decent lever.

I'm hoping you meant him not me :P I guess I just prefer how with hydraulics you have the feel of "pushing" the piston when you pull the lever, instead of the "pull" of the cable, if that makes sense. They are good brakes though. I wouldn't hesitate to have them on a slightly lower budget build.
  5. BB7 are great but shitty,

not meaning to start an argument but something can't be "great but shitty", that's a phrase that contradicts itself, you need to elaborate on why it's great and what faults it has. I've tried bb7s before and the stopping power was immense, but I didn't like the feel of the lever when I pull it. So this good, but can have faults depending on who's using it. I will say they're a thing you have to try before you decide whether you should have them or not.

  6. If I had a mod Id probably go for a rear Pro Race Monty or an Eagle Claw.

Ran one with each intermediate side knob cut off and loved it.

Front tyre wise the best I liked were Try-Alls but seeing as theyre no longer an option once stocks out Id probably run an Eagle claw again with the same treatment as per the rear.

I hated Creepy Crawlers whenever I was forced to run one. Only ever had one as a stop-gap tyre between replacing Monty's/Try-Alls on my last few Mods.

    Really dead feeling tyre.

how noticable is cutting the side knobbles off performance wise?
  7. There's a lot if personal preference involved, height etc, comfort also. It completely varies between people, for example I'm not exactly tall (5 10"ish) and run 185 stem with trialtech highrise rolled forwards, where's as I know people my height running really short stems and riser bars. Meeting up with people in group rides is a great way to try out bar/stem combos and see if you find a certain size that suits you :)

  8. Pull the back brake so the pedals are fixed and you can scoop the back wheel up better was always my idea on it

it's just I can't quite get the right foot position when I lock the brake, I've noticed if I lock if after I adjust my crank position it doesn't make much difference, it's just I feel a bit cramped. Hopefully not too big for my mod haha

  9. i let my back wheel keep spinning + dont touch the brake. you get a tiny bit more giroscopics and makes the back of the bike a bit calmer. i might be explaining it wrong but basically you know when you gap, you pull the brake at the last second because otherwise it feels like the bike looses movement? its like that exept with up to fronts too :)

well i think anyway, i dunno how to explain it really and what i said might be wrong or im missing something but hey its better than nothing

its like wheelies. when the front wheel is spinning its easier to control. kinda like that but with the back wheel... again i might not be making sense :S

no you make sense fine that's basically what I'm trying to say, the bike feels like a brick with the rear brake on but like a feather with it off, better for balancing. I just wasn't sure if I was doing it right haha
