  1. That's your problem. Old Hope discs are pretty rubbish for trials - the only decent one I've ever used is the Hope Trials brake. To be honest what you're describing is just a bad brake with insufficient power, not really anything to do with the nature of disc brakes as such - don't let that put you off discs forever, plenty of people run discs on the rear with no problems, although V-brakes/maguras still seem to be the 'safe' option for the time being.
  2. I've got some lecture notes which are a powerpoint presentation. When I load them on my PC which has Office XP, lots of the pictures don't show up - I just get a box with a red cross in the top left corner - BUT some show up just fine. When I load the same presentation onto my Laptop (mac with Office 2004 - I.e. more recent) all the pictures show up fine. But my printer is attached to the PC (network printing can't do double-sided which I want). So anyone got any bright ideas? I don't believe that Office XP is too old to display jpegs properly. It must be something in the settings somewhere? I can't find it.
  3. Saw this comment before I watched the video And I thought I would disagree... But actually I completely agree. There was some really good BMX riding going on in there and a couple of pretty basic trials moves. If he wants to ride a trials bike rather than a BMX then that's fine with me, but it didn't really seem like he was linking trials with BMX at all - He was just riding BMX on a trials bike.

    Helmets

Blimey, that's nasty. He must have been hit really hard to do that amount of damage to the chainstay/chainset. Good things he's ok though.

  6. Nah, that's for auto backup from one place on the network to another - looks exactly the same as Microsoft Synctoy.
  7. There's a thread for this stuff you know.

    Speedcameras

My speedo isn't quite that bad - It over-reads by about 5-6 mph compared with Tomtom.
  9. I agree with that. AND the fact that the only BB7 I ever used with non-standard pads (EBC reds as it happens) was a bit rubbish. It could have been any number of reasons, but there's really no reason to get anything other than the Avid originals.
  10. That's pretty mental, it's obviously something to do with the fixed gear because he does about 5 pedal rotations backwards. Weird.
  11. Writing a batch file is easy... But like you say it'll just open two separate folders. I really would have thought there ought to be a way - although you might need to code it yourself.

    Small Laptops

I wouldn't want to edit HDV on mine but no problems here whatsoever. Only retards can't use a mac (P.S. Before anyone thinks about quoting & editing that, don't, I already thought about it). It is a pretty big ask to get a computer that is small and light but can still cope with HDV editing.

    Small Laptops

Have a look at the Asus eeePC - it's exceedingly small, looks cool, and it's dirt cheap (<£200). Obviously it's not a desktop replacement, but it does make a nice toy. I really like my 12" Powerbook - maybe have a look for a second hand one? Should be <£400 really. As for syncing, I use Microsoft Synctoy. Use it over the network, or whatever. You can't just share via USB, but you can with Firewire, obviously only if both computers have it. Yes. Not massively, but notebook hard drives are slower, and a few other reasons which escape me.
  14. I've used one of those USB things - pretty good
  15. You do know that you won't get 5.1 sound out of a stereo jack, right?
  16. If you can, get into the case and unplug the drive (computer off of course). Then reboot and remove all the drivers from device manager. Then plug it back in - Windows should find it again and install the right drivers.
  17. Er? So people who use PCs are united? Do you often hear about a tea-drinking community or a potato-eating community? Mac users think they're elite, which is annoying. Anyway: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7079777.stm
  18. That was really quite good

    Tensiles!

They probably don't make a massive amount, but I doubt they'll be losing any money either. I guess the full price pays for R&D, marketing and so on, whereas when they're doing a crash replacement they don't need to make any profit as the person has already spent their money when they bought the cranks in the first place.
  20. It is kinda funny but it just seems like Mac users are sometimes a bit too far up their own arses. It's not as if the blue screen has really existed since Windows 95 anyway...
  21. Smugness gone too far. One of the things I hate about Apple is how their users are really smug - members of the 'Apple Community'. Urgh. I have seen hacks to change the picture for something else, when I get Leopard that's one of the first things I'll be doing. Eh?
  22. Whoa, I thought that video was really good, but then I got to the bit where you try and ride the roundabout thing and that was soooo cool. I've tried to ride one of those things, it's nearly impossible! Good video anyway

    My New Tattoo

Should look cool. But like everyone else I want to know how much $$$. That's Kenny duh Look at the avatar.
  24. Seems pretty harsh. I mean if it was the engine light or something serious then it would make sense. But there are still plenty of cars without airbags so it's pretty unfortunate that you had to stop the test. Oh well, good luck next time.

    Xbox 360 V Ps3

Surely the processing power/internal gubbins/Blu-ray stuff hardly matters at all though? It's all about what games there are - and it looks like there will be a couple of decent ones which are PS3 exclusive (GT5, MGS). And loads which are on both consoles. I reckon that's enough information for anyone to make their mind up.
