  1. I'd love to know why exactly? If your on a budget and you want it future proofed so its physically capable for a little while go for a low branded pc laptop (acer, compaq etc). If its the sort of thing your going to be carrying around while you do photography type things at photoshoots and your going to be using it to show the images get a mac. But if your not sure you want to buy a budget brand the choice becomes a bit harder. The reason i say this is because while a pc desktop is a much better saving than the equivalent mac, the laptop market for both put a fair premium on the things. So going for a sony vaio or a macbook is about the same, so its just a case of which one you like more. As joe said, some of the dell business laptops really are amazing value so thats definately something to look at. The reason behind the photo shoots scenario is because the subjects and people your doing the shoot for will probably be more impressed because they automatically think macs are professional (yes, due to those crap "i'm a mac..." adverts). At the end of the day a sleek clean looking machine that may or may not be as good as a windows based machine might be the final thing that sways your narrow minded clents opinion. Macs are largely fashion over function as well so you'll find the higher price has gone into making the thing more compact and lighter, rather than big heavy and better specc'd like a budget pc laptop. Also, i would definately say go with vista rather than XP. The connectivity and driver installation system is far better, and as you'll be plugging things in and out of the laptop all the time that'll be a real help. Laptops are also generally used for a narrower range of things, word processing, emails, photos etc so the vista prefetching will learn how you use it and speed up the loading times of those things appropriately. Are they still sticking kingston value ram in them and passing it off as their own?
  2. Welcome to the forum dude. As far i was aware theres a few riders located in/around poole, when you look at your own replies theres a little link under your name that says county. Clicking that should bring up other nearby riders who are registered on here. And in your case there IS a fair few As for new frame ideas, Tartybikes, Selectbikes.com, Trials-Uk and Cleanbikes.co.uk are all decent sites to go and have a look at new frames and parts and they're all very up to date with stocks/pictures. With regards to the saddle, Leeson bikes do some nice more traditionally geometried frames, and can customize a frame easily enough. Basebikes do the TA26 which is a seated 26" frame with a pretty nice geometry that is currently an absolute bargain in the frames section on tartybikes (links above). Theres also the whole craze with 24"'s that might be worth looking into, though i'm not quite so up-to-date with all the latest frames and what not.
  3. I think your quite lucky thne. My money plan for this term is student loan of £1250 something, to cover 3 months rent of £338 and any food, going out, course materials etc. The next one comes in after easter and thats the same. In the meantime i have to be finding myself a job pronto so i can pay the rest of the rent during the summer months.
  4. My mum very generously paid for my first two months of rent as my loan hadn't come through, and at some point i'm going to be returning the money to them. Never ask my parents for anything and usually refuse to take money from them as i havn't earnt it, but sometimes if they come over they'll try and sneak a £20 into my draw or something for me to find once they've gone. But as for them giving me money over the year? Well, i don't get any and i wouldn't want them to. I occasionally get a new jumper if mums been out shopping and shes just recently very kindly offered to pay for my contact lenses which is great! But i don't know why the government EXPECTS parents to be giving their kids this much money. Its just retarded, we don't all start off like paris hilton, most have a bit more dignity and respect.
  5. Yep, the link was right, just gave them the wrong name. To be fair though, they're all practically the same and all have stupid names
  6. Zhi Rims Although unfortunately i don't know where abouts you could pick them up from.
  7. I'm sorry but what? It didn't kick off, YOU kicked off. And after two replies that really weren't that big of a deal, the first while being quite blunt was a fair enough reply and the second was well written and polite. This isn't really the response you should give to other members, and by the fourth post you've already broken several rules. I'm sorry to be the one to say this but your going to be stuck in new members for a long time now, unless you can really turn your attitude around. If you had started off and continued with the topic of full members looking down on new members and written it with some tact i don't think you would have had a problem at all, and i think you would have held a lot more impact with what you were saying, but unfortunately a lot of people just see you mouthing off and switch off, refusing to answer or be helpfull back. Whilst i don't condone it i do think there is a general feeling of superiority by a lot of full members and as you quite rightly pointed out, they usually have a go at people for the slightest of things. Unfortunately quite a lot of the time this is little more than bullying as they can come in the new members section, take the piss out of some new members and then sod back off to the rest of the forum without having to deal with the consequences. It shouldn't be like that but unfortunately it is, and has been for as long as i can remember. Theres also the point that other members shouldn't have gotten involved in this. Next time if you see someone making a topic/selection of posts as foul mouthed and aimed to incite a negative response from other members, just hit the report button and it'll be resolved as soon as possible.
  8. They're both the same resolution, so both 1080p. the 1080 bit refers to how manuy pixels there are up the side of the screen, seeing as both of them have 1200 they're both 1080p capable. The only reason its not quite so clear as a HDTV is that computer secreens are 16:10 and HDtvs are 16:9. So a tv with a 1920 screen size horizontally has a 1080 (hence the 1080p/i industry standards) screen size vertically, where as the computer has 1920x1200. COmputer monitors just have slightly more of a black line at the top and bottom when watching movies/gaming, or if set to stretch across the screen everythings slightly taller than on a tv. So yeah, the only real difference is the more expensive one has a fancy coating on the actual screen itself and has integrated things like a card reader and a usb hub as well as some component and composite sockets.
  9. I'm in t-shirt and shorts too mate... well, t-shirt and boxer shorts because i'm still not dressed yet. Its not warm in england And just a quick side-note. The heating back at home still isn't fixed yet, nice cold house to come back to, stu was fuming
  10. Tell your dad all the cool people put water in their hs33's... then they don't lube themselves I'm not even joking either Yeah, everyones covered everything really, just a note on the last point. If you do spray wd40 or light oil on your piston to get it going normally make sure not to get any on the pad and the rub the excess off with a cloth, in fact... just take the pad off entirely and then put it back on when the oils been wiped off. Alternatively it could be that your clamp bolts are too tight or the brake isn't set up correctly. Try undoing the bolts, winding off the TPA on the brake lever itself and then set the pads up properly about 1-2mm away from the rim and nice and straight. then do the bolts back up keeping the pad in the same place. You should find that at least one of the suggestions works for you.
  11. All with the tokina again? The last time you put up photos with that thing i was on ebay looking to see how much it'd cost me to get one! Nice pics though, some good angles and colours in them I know its probably not the focal point in the picture but i love the contrast between the cloudy impure city and the crisp clear-sky'd natty.
  12. I use a KHE myself, though the KMC's (kool k710) are a little lighter and still quite good. Me and patt are under the conclusion though that for some reason, the entirely silver ones are stronger then the silver-black-silver-black ones.

Firstly, i'm gonna jump in and say that none of this is meant offensively or argumentatively and i'm not trying to have a personal dig at you, your opinion is your opinion and i respect that, i'm just trying to understand why you don't think bmx'ing is risky enough to wear a lid. I enjoy a somewhat lengthy conversation with someone else who obviously is quite intelligent. No, not that it'll stop a faceplant... more along the lines of if the faceplant is possible, its not within the realms of impossibility to flip just the slight bit further and twat your skull on the floor instead of your nose/mouth. Thats defiantely the way it seemed/seems, you always (in the last thread as well) seem to be saying that in bmx'ing you'll always roll out of stuff and you'll never hit your head hard, almost disregarding the possibility of actually hitting your head on something. Dunno, can't say i've noticed it... forum still feels normal, but like you said... i've not had a years break from it. I didn't say its like that all the time, but that in the stairset example someones dropping a stairset, and for whatever reason nosedives a lot and stays hanging onto the bars (through fear or whatever) the front wheel hits the floor and stops the bike dead, their head then hits the floor and maybe bounces upwards a little but doesn't neccessarily slide or roll. Thats definately going from speed to no speed, and technically its also got gravity as well. I know it doesn't happen often, but it still can and theres plenty of clips on youtube of people doing it. Literally 30 seconds on youtube typing "bmx stairs faceplant" got http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXtuaqIFCZE. He doesn't seem to realise whats happening, doesn't let go and rides it out. The front wheel goes from speed to practically stopped and his face hits the floor then slides. I'm not saying a helmet would have helped a lot, but if his forehead had taken the brunt of the impact and not his nose/jaw theres no denying he could have been knoecked out or killed. If he had hit his forehead in the same way but with a helmet the impact should be lessened and so the impact of a blunt force trauma to the forehead wouldn't be quite so bad. You missed the guy in the middle though, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty_PL32ESQk. I know you said you don't do barspins but still, its hardly a big fall and a helmet would have definately stopped that from being a big old cut on his head. I do think we're both talking about diferent things, from writing this reply it now seems more like your talking about just you not wearing a helmet, where as in the last topic and before i typed out this reply you were coming across as though no bmx'er should wear a helmet because it isn't neccessary at all because nobody ever hits their head. I get that you personally might not feel the need to wear a lid, and thats your choice, but if you do in fact mean that nobody should wear a helmet for riding bmx then i'm going to have to say i disagree entirely. I think helmets should be encouraged considering how much they can prevent, and i don't think it applies just to bmx'ing but to any extreme sport really.

Actually, it was you and me that went through it before. And i gave up because i knew i you'd set your mind that you were right. The risk is still there though, doesn't matter what sport it is, i went with my friend to his kiteboarding thing and a lot of the people there wouldn't do it without a helmet, and those that did had the piss taken out of them. This was on sand at the beach and they weren't launching off obstacles just a small kicker. Again they had the speed thing like you mentioned before but they still wouldn't do it and I'd say from my own personal experience that bmxing is more dangerous than kiteboarding. Say you drop a stairset but you land front heavy and go over the bars, your going from speed, to no speed (the opposite of the trials scenario going from still to speed) and the first thing to hit the floor is your face/hands. A helmet would be far better than twatting your forehead on the concrete. He rolled out of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_1zb8ebXHM, but if he hadn't... he would have hit his head even harder than he did already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7qsRyYBUiE, still hit his head with some force... the guy was clever enough to be wearing a helmet though. And for the grand finale, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty_PL32ESQky, was hopping off a small wall, helmet'less and hit his head hard enough to mess him up quite bad. BMX'ing is still and extreme sport and its called that because there are extreme risks. A helmet IS a good idea, and its pretty naive to try and say otherwise. Edit: Forgot the classic.... Faceplant harsh.
  15. Nah don't worry about it, rowan pm'd me yesterday and today for some computer advice so it wouldn't be the first time. 8 Minutes for a double opinioned, guaranteed answer turnaround time though... we were on the ball
  16. Ha ha, nah its cool. You had a fair point too and i wasn't clear enough with what i originally said
  17. It'll be fine yeah. If your completely replacing the old ram the computer should read that the memory is a higher speed and it will adjust the memory multiplier to compensate. If it doesn't you'll have to do it yourself in the bios by hitting something like F2 or DEL at startup when it tells you to "hit .... to enter setup". If you plan on keeping your existing and adding the new stuff to it, it will just run at the same speed as the old stuff, as it'll be limited to the speed of the slowest ram module.
  18. Dude, seriously. Theres 3 pad topics on this page alone. Theres a search function on the forum that will retrieve thousands of posts about brake pads and theres a gigantic pad reviews thread in trials chat that you can browse through.

You can, and thats because these ones are far cheaper.... front, back Same thing, can be wrapped around a seatstay and the bars and you won't notice they're there. They don't need to be amazingly bright, they just need to work so you don't get moaned at again.
  21. He didn't say he wanted to contact someone either, he said he can see a lot of bikes and wants to buy them, then asked what can he do. I told him to read the guide to validation and make use of it, eventually he'll be validated and he can buy things using the classifieds section. And seeing as the forum Admin/Mods can't help out members who make sales to other pre-members/non members its best not to advise that he contact them through email as it puts the seller in a greater risk.
  22. Depends which one he's on about, theres this one and this one.
  23. But he's using a pc monitor as the 360 display, not an lcd tv. Basically, current lcd tv's are a joke, a quick money making scheme by the big companies and the "digital switchover" to trap naive buyers into buying screens with poor resolutions. Computer monitors have been around for longer in higher resolutions at smaller sizes, but the tv companies have been sellling the lower resolution tv's for much more. Now prices have dropped to a reasonable standard people are lapping up the lower resolution screens and the true HD screens are beginning to appear. Now you can look at spending around £700-800 on a proper full HD tv like that one or the slightly better version of HD like this one. Thats why current HD ready tv's always look crap when your sat right next to them, because they're not really HD at all, they're just SHD (Slightly Higher Definition) than the older CRT tv's. They have a bigger screen size but the pixels are still huge, so everything looks blocky and crap. But you can easily get an xbox 360 VGA adaptor and plug your 360 into a computer screen to enjoy full HD at much less of the price.
  24. Looking at this thread and our replies, look back to your original post, theres an options button on the top right. Change it to "standard" and it'll be normal. The forum hasn't changed, just your settings
