  1. I don't think you should worry too much about the brand or model, all cars have 'common faults', but a good example of a 'poor' car will be better than a f**ked example of a 'better' car (if that makes sense). Buy on service history and reliability, that's all you want from a first car - for it to be reliable and not cost you time / money fixing it all the time. That sort of outlay will waayy outstrip it being 5mpg worse on fuel, a bit more for insurance / tax or whatever. Also agree that 15 miles a day you want a petrol. Edit: And a short vid from last night, testing out my new home-made anti roll bars. Chuffing slippery conditions, the dark / floodlights and 14 (!) different types of tarmac made the track fairly 'interesting'...
  2. When's Ep8 out Danny, any idea?
  3. Agree with what Ross has said! Having family / friends in place to take over will definitely help you. No animals allowed on site - this has been a pain in the ass for me for years! Dog flaps and a decent garden for the win...
  4. Scary one, that's for sure. Would say 80% skill and a bit of luck thrown in. I had a very very similar moment at Anglesey last week and just by letting go of the wheel and applying the brakes the car pulled itself straight. I was heading for wet grass and a marshals post just shy of 100mph at one point though!
  5. Is that even possible without falling over all the time
  6. I doubt that. Is that a real-world figure?
  7. Works a treat. Use something that is thin so can run down easily, and won't go sticky with age (such as engine oil).
  8. Haha. Nah, 172s do have stupidly heavy clutches, especially if you haven't re-lubed the cable recently.
  9. I can't argue with that - but if you want to drive a car, all of those points are void I think. Good for getting from A to B, not good if you want to enjoy controlling the piece of machinery. I haven't got time to explain the feeling of a 'perfect' downshift, but it's mega, and you simply can't do it with flappy paddles.
  10. Strange comment from him. Changing gear is part of driving a car for me. Plus auto boxes are heavier and more complicated, which goes against the spirit of making a drivers car IMO. I agree that if you just want a tool to get from A to B then an auto box is nice though.
  11. This is a genuine question - have all the women you've been in relationships with really done this?
  12. I guess you could take 'as intended' to mean 'as the manufacturer of the car intended'. So if you fix the seat down in a car that originally had runners, there's an issue. But I'd agree an MOT tester who failed you on that would be a wanker
  13. Haha, internet sarcasm never comes across well Sorry.
  14. If you do that I'll remove it. With a Stanley knife.
  15. All you need is a RWD (Right Wheel Drive) car
  16. Np. Exactly that. Try and get a recommendation from a forum or something if you can...
  17. Hmm, probably not for general pootling about from A to B, but if you're one of these people who actively enjoys driving, you'll notice the difference As a note, just because a geo has been done on a hunter machine doesn't mean it's any good - the result is only as good as the operator!
  18. Do the geo all at once dude (after the polybushes have been fitted), or it's just a waste of a geo!
