  1. Get a design made up for a one piston version, and present both drawings when you find a manufacturer. they will know what is easier / cheaper to make on the machines. As tarty said, just getting the clamp/body made would simplify things a lot, and worth it unless you definately need a one off lever. a fresh products lever would be nice to fit, and is slightly longer than std giving you more leverage which you will need due to the extra brake. Dont you just hate it when: just pm me if you need any help with the drawings, im pretty competant at auto cad (need to aquire it though!) and most 3d software, although only really used ProDesktop and Pro Engineer a lot. Im also used to drawing a lot of stuff by hand- currently got coursework on it! orthographic, by hand to bs 8888! fun! so i can definately help you out there. If you want to have a chat with me about the course, give a opm or add me to msn and il be more that happy to give you any advise ect.
  2. Get in contact with some local engineering or manufacturing firms, and have a talk with there cnc programmers. I would be abel to take a desing like that into my uni workshops and get a one off made, but there machines are not suitable for mass production of them. Also, as an engineering student, for the love of god get some clearer drawings when you approach a company! The design looks great, but the drawings could be soo much better. dimensioning needs a fair amount of tidying up (no dimentions should be within the drawing itself- (see the lever blade for an example), sectional views of the resevoir/clamp piece would be very useful to clear things up, and to dimension too as its very bad practise to dimension to hidden detail lines. Im not trying to annoy you here, just giving you advise! keep the drawings to british std (BS8888), and people you approach will be impressed and more likely to help- as well as it being a clearer drawing. I have to say, that trig, pythag and simultanous equations are relatively simple and very useful maths tools, which are put to use in a lot of situations, especially engineering which is the field you car or bike was designed /made- this kind of stuff is useful! I do however agree, theat while knowing how a plant works is interesting, its not likely to be of any great use. On the whole a 'life skills' lesson would be very benificial in a school environment. We had general studies at a level, it was shit, didint learn jack- if it had been doing this, it would have been a much much better use of time and resources.

  8. Please use the search, this will be the 3rd thread ive posted this in. The ISIS interface is inherently stiffer, and allows for the use of a larger diameter axle to increase strength. Unfortunately however, the larger axle means there is less room for bearings, so in most situations the load capacity of the BBs are reduced, or they don't last as long, or both. Various methods have been devised to prevent this, such as the external bearing BBs, although the mentioned SKFs seem the best on the market at the moment. You are right about the actual taper causing problems over time. Square taper cranks work on a fully tapered interface, you can just keep going if the crank becomes slightly loose, wheres the ISIS taper has a much shallower angle, and actually has a stop, so unlike square tapers which you can keep forcing when the taper wears a little, the isis cranks push on and stop at a set point. If any play develops, which it can after a lot of use (accelerated by multiple removal of cranks) then there is no way of getting rid of it, the taper is permanently damaged. I've seen this happen to a few cranks, including middleburns. you undo the crank bolt and you can just slide the crank off, no need for an extractor. Square has been around almost forever, and i think it will have its place for a long time to come yet, its simple, cheap, universally known and easy to maintain. ISIS is a great solution for the more extreme ends of biking nowadays, which inherently have shorter lifespans on high stress parts such as cranks any way, so you may be able to justify the reduced longevity for the extra strength. ISIS are more expensive as the Tapers profile is harder to manufacture, it is a more complicated shape and has to be made to a higher tolerance than square taper cranks.

  10. Who said it had to be practical? It was concieved as a 2 seater sports car if im not mistaken, using new manufacturing techniques and a lot of different ideas. Its good that designers think outside the box, so what if it was a flop? How would anything great come about if people didn't try things, products fail all the time, ideas go wrong, people learn from there mistakes. This car has a lovely 80s styling to it, gull wing doors and a finish no other car has (plus it wont rust). It failed mainly because its production techniques werent as suitable for mass production as origonally hoped, and the engine was below the designers origonal power figure, before emmisions restrictions took another 40bhp off. This ruined the performance, and it became sub standard for a sportscar. And yes, you do need 11 inches at the side of the car to be able to open the door, but even with my car its a bit awkard to get out of the car with just 11" to open the door into. Your also right that anycar can be made fast with money, and its not nessesarily money- its time and effort. This has already been discussed. Edit: spelling, just noticed how appaulign it was!)
  11. Ok, maybe inovative was not the best word to use, however i still stand by the fact that few cars have them, especially ones with such a low origonal sale price as the Delorean. I also belive ( i think i am correct) the Delorean doors had slightly more clever hinges then most, allowing fairly heavy doors- not relying on ultralight ones.
  12. This thread has amused me greatly! I do love it how people just don't seem to understand on the internet. I think that delorean is a pretty damn cool car, i do not deny its failings as a succesful selling car, but as a concept it was very good. Its styling is excellent, the doors were inavative for the time, (not many cars have gulwing doors as std) and having the body work in uncovered stainless is very very different. Maybe the car would have beel less of a flop if it actually achieved its origonal suspected power figures that the designer wanted. I think its good someone has decided to soup up a delorean, just to see what they can do. Im not fussed by the result on the drag strip, if the guy likes his car, enjoys driving it and get a smile, thats what matters! Some people laugh at my car, some think im a boy racer, some love my car- either way its my car, a lot of time and effort has gone into it, i like it and i will do how i like with it. Please, respect others opinions people thats all im asking. Oh, and future orange 660- Nicks a great guy, friendly, helpful, and has picked up a lot of knowledge in his time spent with cars- no one who knows him will say otherwise. He is also entitled to his opinion, and if you notice any thing hes not sure of he will specify, and he also states when somethings his opinion rather than fact.
  13. Definately a good bike to start on, maybe not the most up to date frame out there, but so what! It still feels like a normal mountain bike, so wont feeel as alien to you as these new breed trials machines, and is still a capable and flicky frame. once youve had it learned the basics, and built up then you can think about changing it. I have ridden them, and love them, but then im an old school man. Have had an orange zero for a year, and just upgraded to a leeson.
  14. I hope there ok, not only may they have a slightly dodgy pedal thread as has already been mentioned, but he said they fell off during a ride, and damaged the taper! I hope its not bad damage.
  15. I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Leeson Clear 660 (the std 26" model). I absolutely love it, but it depends on your riding style and bike preferences. Im more of a streety rider than a natural/big move rider, and i love old school bikes - i dont get on with these long and low bikes at all. They are good quality, with good service and very individual. some of the design features of the frame are clever, and i like how simple they are. I find all of these reasuring. Its definately improved my riding.

  18. the reson that sketch isnt extruding is because there are boken lines / lines extending past boundaries. the sketch will turn a pinkish colour when it is 'complete' you ned to delete all those little bits of lines that stick out, and also the two vertical lines at the top of the booster. Then the basic shape shoudl extrude.

    Put the effort in and you will be fine. The best way of revision for me, was past exam papers- do them find where you go wrong, make sure you can do it, go again and repeat until you can do the whole thing. GCSEs are important, especially if yoru planning on leaving school after them and not doing anything further, as there the only official academic qualification you will have to your name that can easily be compared to others. Relax, especially if there only mocks. There there to get you used to major exams, and pick up on yoru weaknesses. there not just there to piss you off, so use them wisely! our school used to have end of year exams every year, really got us into the whole exam thing which meant not many of used were stressed over exams. to this day i don't panic over them, it makes it soo much easier. 4A*s 5As and 2Bs to show for it woo!
  21. Im gettting a problem with messenger. If i add a new contact, they are automatically blocked, so i have to go find them, then unblock them. It also then doesnt recognise when they sign in, they stay in the offline section (even when im talking to them and there status is set to online) and it doesnt think ihave added them. At the top of the convo window it says "soandso is not in your contact list, click here to add them now" so i click there and nothing happens!!!!! Anyone know how to fix this? only seems to be a problem on my comp, went home and everythign worked ok. I have tired reinstalling msn, maybe i need to try again! I have the newest version of live, and plus. At home i was using windows mesenger lol.
  22. indeed, really freaks people out whove never see dual screen before when you drag a window across to the other screen. keeps them entertained for a good 5 minutes usually!

I have a 20" widescreen as main monitor, and 15" and 2nd. have taskbar on main monitor, and use for most stuff, eg web browsing, vids, media centre, and have MSN, limewire, winamp, and icons on the other monitor. Also very useful for writing essays ect, can have word in one screen and net/referance on the other. If your clever you can have different pics. how much ram you run shouldnt be too much of an issue, i have 2gb. Your graphics card will have to work hard though. Yuo shoudlnt notice any slow response from either screen, unless your graphics card is struggling.
