werd, the other maintenance tip being when maguras wind you up enough vee's deliver and you never look back..
-
f**k off, i use halfords vee brake calipers and cables to great effect, and their own brand CNC pedals are good value too. keep your rims true! a little adjustment from time to time will massively prolong their life and reduce pad wear let someone else who knows how a bike should feel ride your bike from time to time, you will get used to faults that could become problems, they will notice something wrong buy decent quality tools research any jobs you aren't confident about keep brake lever bolts a little loose so the brakes can spin.

i bet you'd improve faster with an average frame that you know can take more abuse... i progressed like mad when i had no concerns for my hardware, i got all of the 'bad riding' out of my system and after nearly 7 years of trials i feel like i could begin to warrant a lighter more delicate machine as i'd be able to effectively utilize it without ruining it in a matter of weeks, that said, if you can afford the best and you can afford to maintain having it, it makes absolute sense to do it right.
-
i.e. get a rockman if you ride with finesse... they're strong until you smash them into walls to many times... they're in the same realm as koxx in my eyes...
-
sounds dumb, i always use a crank turn when i powered my 24 or 26 up something of reasonable height, and don't bother on a 20", i'd imagine he'd have to do the same with the new machine, the 24" could be marginally easier though...

Personal Review Of Most Common Stock Frames Nowadays To Get One.
ogre replied to 315r's topic in Trials Chat
the longer the frame the more leverage you have, so you will be able to (in theory) perform better static moves. the length can feel cumbersome for some rolling moves, and short bikes enable flickier riding, it's all down to personal preference and a but load of other variables. just try and ride as many bikes as you can untill you find something that works.... -
they aren't bad frames, alot of people view them as bad cause they aren't as tough as other frames, but if you consider low frame weight to be a priority then they're excellent. but if you know your a basher or a bit of a monster then be prepared to be dissapointed.

there are better ways to waste money, if you'd like you can pay me to tell you not to be a dumb-ass every time you have an idea... it will make a marginal difference at best, and would only be worth considering once you've exhausted all other weight saving options and have the lightest possible machine already... my googlings also suggest that helium particles are smaller than air particles, so your wheels would go flat faster, so you'd need to top up the helium frequently... d'you recon the wheel would perform different at the same psi of an air filled wheel? also, it's spelt 'idea'

what pads, smooth rim, or a grind? i didn't think it was giving you the power you needed? hs33s are pants without some decent trials specific pads and some care and attention to detail in their set up...
-
good stuff, don't machine the cranks down untill your cock on sure that they aren't right.

i wish i could nip downstairs and check on my bike and remind myself how an isis set up looks when it's 'normal' but it's not here to check, unless the bit of material showing is somehow tapered inwards to act as a stoper that don't look right, the other thought would be, does that amount of taper thats left out, match the amount of BB left to be covered? in my experience isis cranks usually slot onto the bb like it's meant to be and just need nipping up, i wish someone else would give a second opinion on this thread though. on the flip side i've enjoyed dumping everythign i can think of in a thread... re the gear comment, i'm a 20 something so i guess i'm happy with scars and wounds, and i've never considered how others may perceive it, and i'm frugal as hell to boot, but i can see why you take your well being a bit more seriously. to be fair i don't see trials as all that dangerous, i'm the only rider in my circle of main riding friends who's had a proper injury, and i only know one other guy who's broken themselves properly in trials and he's riden even longer than i have, so bear in mind that injuries in trials are pretty rare and don't think about it to much!

awesome, i was wondering if the radfest site was open to the public outside of the festival time, will have to go next year -
you will want to get it properly serviced, and you'll be fine.
-
don't remove the crank arms, just pop the bolts out, and take a photo of how it looks without the bolt in ideally your bb axle will come right up to the point where the arrow is pointing in the image below: i'd advise you try an get the cranks on the bb to this point before riding any more. Don't worry about all the safety gear, your being ridiculous, your only learning, your at ground level all the time, and your guna be falling no harder than if you loose your balance, the back pain you will experience is from the muscles in your back being used properly for the first time in a while, it's normal and it'll go, the only safety gar that makes allot of sense right now is a helmet and shin guards if you don't want gnarly scars... it's not like downhill where your pagering about at high speed, trials is a comparatively slow and safe sport...

how do i embed youtube? this clip makes me lawl every
-
do like the blades, i have alot of respect for them, my main riding friend has annihilated his, it's got 4-5 cracks and it's supported his riding to date....
-
meanwhile in the real world... arrogance on that level doesn't work, especially when your dealing with a company in a different country. (from my perspective as a halfords employee) If we sent out a boxed bike to a customer, and they brought it in i rate that they had assembled it themselves ridden it and it fell to pieces, it would be their own fault for putting it together wrong/not contacting us immediately with the alleged faults, in the perfect world it wouldn't work that way, but they already have his money, and he's got a scratched and marked bike, so they can be all like 'you broke it, it's your problem now' and he'll have to suck it.
-
your guna see alot of HS33s fail in trials, cause more or less everyone uses them your guna see them fail eventually. out of interest what is your current set up?
-
cheers, although the link in my sig is to a pitbul this is the ashton with regards to the falling off and doing your ankle, thats what i did nearly 8 weeks ago just try and land with both feet on the ground and try not to go sideways and you'll be fine take the crank bolt out and take a photo of the crank, i wanna see if it's all good now.
-
i wouldn't ride it without the cranks fully on the bb, as they won't be evenly distributing the load, then again if your only riding small it shouldn't be an issue, but i'd be wary of it anyways. what do you mean your ankle landings are awkward?
-
try drifting the cranks on with a mallet before you let the threads do all the work, if they go on all the way then you shouldn't have any more chain line issues... a wide BB is prety normal in trials as it gives you a wider platform to balance with, if you browse the BBs on tarty then you'll find they're mostly 128... you don't need a perfectly straight chain, but being close to perfectly true is always preferable, did you try fitting the cranks to another BB to test them out? or did they not have an isis BB in stock, it's not uncommon to run the wrong shell width bb in trials and have some of the shell poking out since you can get spacers to take up some of the slack...

i'm on my 3rd hope and it's the first time i've been genuinely pleased with one, although the first two were thoroughly second hand =/ never felt a bad BB7 yet though.
-
any one else in the belief that hopes are a bit of a lucky dip for trials? some people have uber ones, and then the rest have temperamental disapointment? on paper discs are great but i was so happy to be rid of mine on a 26", was kinda fun on a 24" and they're sick on 20"s though
