Julien Posted August 17, 2008 Report Share Posted August 17, 2008 (edited) I have some insight into the conversations that the UCI have had with the Olympic committee, one criticism they have is that not enough women compete. They want to see sporting activity that attracts both sexes. Not my opinion or comment, but its true, very few women compete, but boxing gets by. Trials would be a worthy addition, many niche sports are included now, I think its time that Trials was.Fred Savage - in support.Julien Duay - In supportThis is the biggest issue at the moment, the minimal number of female competitors. A very valid and important point. Another issue is that for certain sports they only allow a certain number of events, so say Trials is added another cycling event may need to be removed. My personal view given that it is a very new sport that has progressed a phenomenal amount over the last 10 years, it is realistic to aim for a demonstration for 2016 with hopeful inclusion in the 2020 Olympics, it will give many countries (such as China) time to start training up their youngsters, hopefully females as well, and it could be taken seriously as a legitimate sport by countries outside of Europe and start to attract some decent funding and sponsors.Just my spiel.
