Revolver Posted May 27, 2011 Report Share Posted May 27, 2011 Possibly the split ring from the headset is still on there. Smack them with something hard, firmly, the ring should slip a bit and then the forks will flop about abit, then you find that ring and take it off and they'll drop out. Makes sure stem, top cap are all off - spacers too (for neatness) and smack that steerer tube. You're not using a rubber mnallet by any chance are you? Yes it is, just a steel mallet will impart more shock loading and break the stiction easier. Matthew62 Posted May 27, 2011 Report Share Posted May 27, 2011 I almost cried a few weeks ago as i thought my frame was dead as it had a duff old headset in it that'd been in for about 8 years. It was screwed and wouldn't come out. I went to CRC picked out a new frame, slightly annoyed at the loss of cash, but thought i need a new frame....then i realised i was 'special' but not in a good way, in a "are u f**king special mate" kina od a way. I had been using a rubber mallet to no avail. Switched to a good ol' fashioned hammer and it was out in two seconds flat. This method i think will work equally well for forks. If they're a bit stuck the rubber mallett might just be absorbing some of the impact. Switch to a hammer and i reckon they'll be out very quickly.
