colly Posted December 18, 2003 Report Share Posted December 18, 2003 firstly decide whether you are goin to be ridin natural or comp, a street frame won't be great for comp as these usually have smaller top tubes, check out the warrenty on the frame, make sure the bb height is over 12.5 '. check the tyre clearance, try to pushing the rear dropouts to see how stiff it is. and check out reviews on biketrials.com, if you buying a koxx make sure you can live without having a seat, hope this some help, please keep adding frames in and extra advice. thanks :thumbsup: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bigman Posted March 12, 2004 Report Share Posted March 12, 2004 A frame to be added to the above list in the sub £300 bit, is the new BT raven, very short 382mm chainstays (shorter than a koxx) very long 1090mm wheelbase, it is more designed towards the "proper" uci style of riding, it has a 5mm rise BB, also availiable in black, white or silver and it rides amazing, better imo than any other frame, be it more or less money, except maybe an echo 1080m pure, but I haven't ridden one so can't compare. How low can this go? 3"??? 2""??? No, because the seat-stays and top-tube would form a reflex angle which would put a lot of stress on the seat-stay/tube/top-tube join. Equally, if it gets to 3 inches or less, where are the tubes going to fit together? More stand-over height means more room to move your body when you're pre-loading for sidehops and so on. Equally, it tends to mean less tubing, which generally means less weight. Also, when you're doing natural you can move your body over the bike more easily to balance and so on. (Koxx frames have 8" seat-tubes, I think) Onza T-Raptor is in the sub £200 band, might be worth a look. Try and give the bike you're considering a try-before-you-buy. It's worth it, especially seeing as the more specialist bikes tend to get pretty extreme across the geometry spectrum, where you get fairly short bikes like Leeson's, going to super long bikes like the Koxx Levelboss 1100. Don't forget not to get too wrapped up in the facts and figures - 1060, for example, may sound like a lot, but when you ride it it can feel super nice. Don't just think "It's a big number, I'll hate it." Just give stuff a try and be open minded. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
