Front Rim Brake

Yup, when you apply the brake the wheel is effectively pushing or pulling on the brakes. With them mounted on the rear they push into the forks giving more resistance which technically should make them more effective at the risk of increasing the stress put into the forks which causes them to snap.

They both have there pros and cons.

Reverse:

Pros;

Generally better bite and hold, down to the way the pads are forced inwards with the rotation of the wheel.

Look awesome.

Cons:

Will tend to crack/ snap easier on moves such as hooks or wodges. The mount adds as a stress riser, and with the way the fork flexes on such moves, this causes the fork to crack

Forward mount:

Pros:

Generally quite quiet, tad more modulation (if you like that kinda thing) and more resistant to hook/wodge induced cracks

Cons:

Can have less hold than a reverse mount vee, the key word being CAN. (Mr. Pavel has proved you can get an epic front brake with such mounts) and will be more prone to cracking at the mount with moves to front.

In short, theyre both going to crack sooner or later, and you should get a good brake on either.

Ive gone front Vee though, so Im a winner anyway. Hooray for strong forks.
