Freewheel upgrade

Hello there..

I own a Monty 219 kamel from 2009. The freewheel on the bike is quite worn and needs to be changed. I would like to upgrade the freewheel to a better one with more inner teeths and more engagement points, but with the same number of outer teeths as the standard one (I can't remember but im pretty sure the standard freewheel has 18 outer teeths).

I dont want to spend more than about 40 british punds.

What would you recommend and where to buy? (Has to be shipped to Denmark)

Thanks in advance :)

your not really gonna get alot for £40, if you want a good one the sl is the way forward, but that will set you back £60

Thank you for your respond.

Maybe I could stretch the budget to 60 :) Im sorry but im still a newbie in trials, what does sl stand for and can you please link to a shop which sell that freewheel?

And a bonus question ;), does every freewheel has a standard thread size to match the wheel or!?

echo sl,accept no less!

all the freewheels i've seen have the same thread size ( 1.37" x 24tpi ), avoid 'track' stuff as the thread pitch is slightly different and it will bugger up the what ever it screws onto.

If you don't want to spend more than £40 you could get a tensile 60 click, very reliable and value for money! Don't worry about engagement points as you are only a beginer so it wont matter that much unless you really want the engagement then you could go for the 96 click for an extra £10. Also everyone is saying that the SL is really good but i have to disagree because the newer SL are no where near as good as the old silver ones as ive gone through 2 Newer SL's in just over 6months plus the tensile has replaceable parts unlike SL's!

Hi all.

I bought an SL at the time, but because of me hurrying I thought that my standard freewheel was 18T. I was wrong, its 16T. My freewheel is placed on the rearwheel and the SL would give me a shitty low gear ratio. I could then replace the front chainring/crankset to a bigger one but instead I returned the SL and bought a ViZ Seventy Two (recommended by tarty).

I couldn't find much info about the ViZ but this freewheel seems to do the job for me. I have ridden the bike a couple of times since I replaced it and Its definitely much better than the standard one I had before.

Thanks again for all the answers ;)

Why would you change good freewheel for something worse if it doesn´t even sort out your problem?Viz is 18t too isn´t it?

Im not sure i understand you. Would you say that the standard freewheel on my monty 219 should be better than the ViZ?!

The ViZ you can get in 16T and 17T too :)

The viz! Will have more engagements so it'll be better, there not bad free wheels..

I'm guessing ghostrider88 means the brand 'monty' is better then 'viz!' so just ignore him

I think this is where the confusion came from :wink2:

Never buy a viz mynes cracked in 3 places skipped all the time made weird noices going down hill Tensile 60 click or the sl buy a new chain if u need it puts it better

You're perfectly on time with your comment...
