Music recommendations (sad stuff)

Recommended Posts

Keep forgetting to make this. I normally exhaust a genre with a few specific albums before moving on. Now i'm back on DnB and sad stuff.

So i would like some recommendations for sad music. Doesn't have to be moving or dramatic, and probably better if it wasn't. String instruments like harps are pretty awesome, along with violins. Classical, instrumental, new age/ vocal (though no shitty story vocals), & electronic.

Don't have to give a link, just a name of artist or song/ piece.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how sad this is but I find it moving; particularly because it's from my favourite film, The Thin Red Line, which I know to be sad and moving.

Hah, just read your message properly rather than skimming. Perhaps not the best option then but you should check it out, none the less.

I do find that sadness is often moving though? They seem to be friends...?

Not sure what you mean by "sad" quite broad

modern wise, Ludovico Einaudi has some really emotional pieces,
But take a look at some Debussy pieces,
I recently performed la plus que lente as a saxophone arrangement, a lot of diatonic harmonies and syncopated rhythms make it an incredibly emotional piece. A lot of his work could be seen as "sad".

Some nice recommendations, though i'm a little disappointed no one could give any electronic pieces.

Interesting to see what people offered. Also how people perceived different songs to be sad.

Ben and others, yeah it's very broad. I don't think sad and moving have to go together, but they do go together. Obviously your mood and whether a film or action is tied in with the sounds, just like smells, will play a significant part.

Don't fancy quoting everyone, soo...

Skrillex-Leaving

That's the first Skrillex tune i've heard (unless i've heard one in a mix or radio etc without knowing) and i was impressed until he decided to use a sampled male vocal. Totally spoiled that tune for me. The rest of the stuff i listened to and wasn't overly keen sorry.

modern wise, Ludovico Einaudi has some really emotional pieces

This was a really interesting and enjoyable piece.

My offering definitely isn't sad, I was thinking along the lines of something you could listen to on a sad day to try and cheer you up. Emancipator just seemed to cover a lot of what you had listed. Chilled out electrical meets piano, violin and other instruments :)

That was a good recommendation, i just didn't mention it. I've not heard of him/ them before, and will probably check some more stuff out.

I'm not after sad music for mood changing, just purely enjoyment. If i'm in a foul mood, i'll go ride :P
