Surely 'as my GP has advised, this is going to take 6 weeks to recover from so i'll see you then' should do it?
-
Well done Hippy dude, well happy for you.

I just want to say that this is the best description of broken parts ever.
-
I emember those, was an awesome project when they first came out - didn't these get passed around between loads of riders for testing?
-
Got a weird issue with a Canon EF. Frame counter works fine when it's not loaded, but as soon as I put a film in it, it can't seem to advance itself past S - I can see it trying though. Any ideas on what's causing it? I don't overly mind, but lost a roll of film last week after forgetting what I was up to and ripping it out of the barrel.

Exactly - the way you say it makes it seem as though you miss being single/ you don't have anywhere near as much 'fun' when you're tied down in a relationship.

I don't even have locks

Cheers mate, didn't realise you were an old Ford guy! Spent the afternoon at unit, started pulling the new one apart; Turns over smoothly enough, no grit in the sump, everything looks to be ok inside... Didn't ave a chance to get the pistons out, but I sort of trust this engine now. Spare Hepolites are selling on the 'bay in half an hour so there'll be no going back! Doesn't look like much, but I promise you it's a honey: Bores aren't in bad shape, no scores, pitting or lips. Bit of ming on this one down to ring level, and two have some surface rust but nothing a hone won't fix: Shells weren't terrible, nor was the crank although we'll wait and see when it comes out - may need a grind, or more than likely i'll make a hybrid bottom end from the two as it needs a flywheel anyway: But most importantly... Check the heads! Little skim, clean up, new stem seals and lap the valves back in - they'll be beauts. Spot the standard head (Jolfa, think you were right on them just being coked up to f**k. Getting them in proper light and having more than a speculative glance over has been handy) 46ishmm inlets, 41mm exhausts vs 41/37 standard heads. Ported, polished, lovely: And my growing collection of dismantled V6s; Not bad. Certainly better than the money I paid might suggest.

Could be, but it's no colour i've ever seen on valves before (dry anyway, that's wet and covered in ming). It was just something I was told to look out for, as apparently that was a cool thing to do back in the day. It's a pretty interesting idea anyway, and all of that's coming off regardless of what it is.
-
That's quite impressive - what are they from? I could, but these heads are quite keen on cracking...
-
Stop arguing and check out these valves; Covered in WD40 there so look fairly minging, but they've all been ceramic coated - pretty quirky and something I might keep after cleaning all the old stuff off - anyone had any experience with that before? It's a new one on me.

Just got home from an epic day of clearing out shit, picking up shit and getting deafened by Motorhead. As for the engine, it's currently sat in the unit with diesel in the bores - apparently the answer to my question of 'does it turn over?' should have been no, but that's a chance you take buying stuff unseen. Still, a few squirts of WD40 saw the cam followers out with no wear, cam is nice and fairly fresh, so i've got hope for the rest. I already have new rings, so even if it comes to some hot oil it should be ok. Most importantly though, the heads are good. And I got a box of goodies, some EBAY RARE stuff and a remote oil cooler. Was an odd collection though - ended up in some arse-end of nowhere industrial estate in Newhaven before putting two and two together. Who races Essex V6s? Banger boys. Their yard was insane, had a troop of kids race-prepping something in the back, endless dead things, a Datsun 180b/ 1200 estate (couldn't quite tell) due to be raced that made me want to cry, yanks, Merc estates due to go to Belgium for a series.. Mad. Good blokes though. Apparently this engine used to be raced in a Mk1 Capri Super Rod, before ending its life in a Toyota Starlet (!) until the guy quit racing. Bizarre. Either way, i'm looking forward to making it work. Project 200bhp Essex on a budget is go.

turns out two of this year's housemates are bells. it's f**king freezing, pretty much got called out last night for having stuck the heating on for half hour int he mornings to make getting up that little bit easier. Complaints of 'we can't afford it' when they're sharing a third of the f**king rent. I'm panning my counter-argument for when i'm not tired and need to be out the house by 8 the next morning, needless to say it's gonna get real. Can't wait.

I spoke to my pals at Burton this afternoon about my new engine; "Those valves are bigger than our full race heads..." Right... "Are they red?" Yes "well done mate, that's a Swaymar lump" I then got passed on to their resident Essex expert who got very, very excited/ hated me for the peanuts i've paid for it. Reckons we'll be looking at about 230bhp with the right carb, just need to decide on an appropriate cam. The Group 1 spec one currently fitted would be great, but i'm not sure I can handle life with that on the street...
-
After the piston debacle, it turned out they actually were oversize when I got the vernier out yesterday. However, I then went and accidentally an old Group 1 spec race engine.
-
Buy oversize pistons, wait ages for delivery, arrive this morning, get excited, measure, standard pistons. For f**k's sake.
-
That's bizarre. It's fuel injected isn't it? Have you had the rocker cover off and turned it over to check all the valves are opening right?
-
Cool. Yeah, it's already running a return so that's something I guess. I think I might leave it mechanical to get it up and running again - apparently that's useful up to about 170bhp, so will probably rolling road it and see if it's worth the change. Seems like really odd one with the Porsche though - what's left to replace in term of a to-do list of possibilities?
-
So, bits are coming together for the Capri's resurrection - one thing i'd like to do is convert it from the mechanical fuel pump to an electric one. It's not an injection system, most likely just gonna be a big four-barrel Holley or a 40 DFI Weber. What am I going to need to do it? Electric pump and some degree of regulator? How does it now how much fuel to feed the carb? Proper schoolboy questions but it's new to me...

Way over-stressed. Got to write a chapter of my dissertation and finish a big project at uni by monday, way overdue on some work for a client, still chasing payment for some writing and trying to get some vague order with my old housemates to pay some bills i cant afford, but i've gone beyond seriously giving a shit and am now sat on my bed listening to reggae and struggling to engage my brain. Literally can't even begin to work out the structure of this dissertation. Sweet.

Speaking of throwing money at shit engines, I just accidentally some +0.60" pistons.
