  1. Hey guys. A few of us are heading up to Afan for a week in 2 weeks, and after speaking to a my lbs owner, he said the area was full of bike thefts around Afan, and we would either have to sleep ON our bikes or lock them together in a locked car. Anyone had an experience of the area? I so any precautions I can take to ensure our holiday isn't ruined apart from the car trick? Cheers max

Coming up on Monday the 18th and leaving that Friday (22nd). Should be staying at Afan itself, and Planning on riding whatever we can (skyline, the wall Ect) and hopefully a bit in the breccons, and possibly cwm carn if it's any good.

Little update for those who are interested. I have just come back from a ride this morning on the tubeless set up. The tyres are no longer seeping, so I presume the good ride helped a lot. Grip wise I now have less than before, although I blame this on the tyres, as I went from 2.35 super tacky duel ply high rolers, to the cheepest (£15 ea) Continental rubber queens. I ran them at 30psi to start with, but I know that these tyres can be run much lower due to there mahhoooossiive volume! Im waiting on a pressure guage to arrive so i can fettle with the pressure on the trail, as 30psi felt too hard on the technical sections. I just need to gain my confidence in pressures that i can run without burping them (At a guess should be ok to 20psi). By doing the tubeless conversion ive dropped over a lb in weight from the bike (was 33lbs, now 32.1 lbs, but mainly down to the change in tyres). Havnt really felt a dramatic increase in rolling. But then again I am running DH wheels (mavic 729 rims, bulb hub with a 12mm axle on the back, Sun single track rim on specialized stout hub front) so I knew i wouldnt really feel the difference unless I had new wheels. When funds allow, I may invest in a Superstar wheelset (my mate has them and they seem very good) to drop the weight. Tomm, have you seen the Stans wheelset that superstar do? Its pretty damn cheep, might be what your after? The reviews I think are useless, as there is a ton of idiots who complain about the spokes coming lose after a few rides, where as to me (personally) its part of having a new wheel to re-tension and true the wheel after a few rides? Anyway, info-rant over. Hope this may help. Im very impressed so far

Do it ghetto boy I did a topic ages ago, and found some significant weight savings. Ill see if i can find it. Edit: Fish finger posted it up the top

The whole point of tubeless it to make it lighter?!

Right Tomm. Just finished going tubeless the "ghetto" way on the Ragley. Firstly, if you dont have a compressor, or access to one, I think it could be hard to do without one. However now my new tires are seated there nice. Cant ride them properly because of a knackard shoulder, but it has dropped weight off the bike straight off (mind you i was running duel ply and am now running single ply rubber queens). I had a slight problem with the carcass being slightly porus (pissed me off a bit on new tyres, but then again they are cheap tyres), but once the sealant was shaken up inside they seam to be sealed without a problem. 20" tubes where perfect for the ghetto version rim strips.
  8. Glad it's finally good!! Out of interest, how are tue superstar pads compared to the shimano's?
  9. Massivly overpriced!! You could get sooo much more for the money!

I'm going to do it when I have enough money for new tyres. I'm going down the ghetto tubeless route, by knife'ing open a bmx tube as a rim strip. I think tyre choice is pretty important to be honest. Although with mist tyres I think burping only becomes an issue at say <30psi on narrower rims. If I remember, the wider the rim the less chance of burps.
  11. Fresh Products lever blades, and RB lever blades.
  12. Geeeeeze!! Did you get them seccond hand? Bit gay it's stripped if they where new!! I would send it back. I feel bad now for suggesting them
  13. Depends what frame. If your running 80mm i doubt you would notice much difference.
  14. Good luck finding a BB to fit. A trials BB at 85mm shell is huge!
  15. Yes Rich! Got it. Well like I say he is pretty keen, as is Nick. Its just Nick and the other main committee members dont have the time to do so, hence why the ball is handed over to Sheridan, but perhaps a little nudge may help the ball rolling Cheers Guys.
  16. If you where to use the adapter you have with your new forks you would need a 223mm rotor (LOL). If you wanted to use the 203mm rotor still, then you need a 180mm post mount to IS adaptor. If you wanted to use a 180mm rotor you need the "standard" 160mm post mount to IS adaptor.
  17. Hi all, Last summer there was a bike trial run under the West Of England Motorcycle club (WOE) banner on south Dartmoor. This trial was supposed to be a test for the organisers to see the interest in running a series around the south west. Obviously since then nothing has unfortunately come of it. Now I was at a motorcycle trial yesterday and infact was talking to the chairman of WOE Mcc (Nick Hunt), about the subject, and why nothing came of it basically. **At this point can I just say that what Im telling you is what I have been told, whether it is correct or not is another matter (Although Nick is a sound guy)** Now the chap who organised the biketrial and was potentially organising the series, (cant for the life of me remember his name, but to those of you who where there, the man doing the signing on in the back of the yellow pick-up) has now been kicked off of the committee for owing money to various people, including the club itself, for the insurance for our trial, hence why the scene has gone quiet. However, there is still hope for a series if enough interest is expressed, as the main WOE mcc members are too busy through the year with motorcycle trials (fair enough really), but there is another chap ( Again forgotten his name: Sheldon somebody) who is very keen to start up the series as his lads ride too. WOE mcc is more than happy enough to provide insurance for the series, providing everything is done properly and above bored (unlike last year). This may or may not see the entry fee rise slightly, although I personally cannot see it exceeding the £12 fee like motor trials. Who would be interested? Would like to know as many as possible so I can propose this to Sheldon, and hopefully get the ball rolling. Cheers Max

I died numerous times. Dig up and collect the sand and build a tower?
  19. 60ml is fine, you can always close the valve and re-fill it.
  20. Local farming supplies shop would do (Mole Valley Farmers / Scats). I use a 60ml one fine. If your serious about cleanliness, invest in some Isopropanol alcohol (for cleaning excess fluid ect), best stuff ever!
  21. Try and keep everything clean. And take your time. I can sympathise with you on brakes there horrid. With the shimanos, wack some mineral oil in a syringe, and push it through from the bottom. Then bleed from the top down after tapping the hose/ caliper/ lever. I had to put a longer hose on my front one, and bleeding was pretty easy but I probably over did-it (took a good 30mins) to ensure it was air free. As for lever travel, once bled correctly and at maximum adjustment there is probably less than 5mm lever travel?
  22. Water it is at the weekend then!
