Old starlets were rear wheel drive. Didn't come with anything nice in them though so a 4A-GE transplant is fairly common in them. One you have overlooked that a lot of people run for some "tramp drift" is a volvo... the 340's come in a 1.4 and 1.7 (ideally need the 1.7) they are cheaply lowered VERY cheaply got and with a few mods (lowering/stripping weight down/air box and exhaust/welding diff) they will drift/diff very well. There is also the more powerful 360 2.0 coming in carbed and injection models going up to 115hp Most of the cars mentioned with exception of a carlton gsi etc will need either a LSD off the next model up etc or the diff welded for it to stand any chance of being controllable when sideways and even to do proper circles. Sounds a bit shit that you didn't get the job done right but as far as price, that sounds spot on. Bike shops have to make money like everyone else, the shop I work in would be probably one of the best quality bike shops in Belfast and therefore have cytech mechanics and all fully shimano service centre certified. This doesnt come cheap and the end result is the workshop price is now up to £36 an hour. I thought this was excessive when I started there and only when you see the break down of the costs you actually realise that from £36 the shop owner gets VERY little of. I can't see how some shops can get away with charging so little, for example a tarty wheelbuild must take about an hour of his time, where I work that is £36 a tarty build is £10 or something, I don't understand how that pays for itself really. Saying that if a bike can not be brought up to a good standard that the mechanic would be proud of letting out then the customer is notified of any extra parts/labour needed or the bike is given back to the customer with no charge. As you can't charge for work that wasn't completed right no matter how many times I have seen people do it. "theres you laptop reformatted, that will be £30 oh and your keyboard now doesn't work" that was one my mum got stung with lol

I think its about time Orange done something about putting some proper suspension technology into thier full sus rigs. A lot of bikes being sold now are all offering super efficient pedaling, no brake jack or dive and no pedal kick back without the use of fancy shocks like the dhx 5.0. Orange are relaying on the shock too much to make thier bikes ride any better than they did with a Vanilla RC many moons ago, infact when you have rode something like a demo 8/9, sx trail or a giant glory you wont sit your arse on an Orange ever again. The likes of giant with the maestro set up on the glory for example can pretty much completely do away with ANY brake interference and nearly totally away with pedal kick back while maintaining small bump sensitivity AND the ability to take the big stuff. Giant only started using the DHX 5.0 shock on the glory dh this year due to public demand over the DHX 4.0 with less majic about it. The bike rides no different doe to the change. The FSR likage on specialized is over 10 years old and still one of the best systems giving NO pedal kickback due to where the rear end essentially pivots (through the centre of BB) and very little brake feedback while still giving a near vertical axle path. I myself rode a santa cruz s8 single pivot bike until recently. There is just too much technology out there that can make you faster/have more fun than an orange can offer. They sell purely because of a name. Great ten years ago but they need to do something special to make thier bikes punch in thier weight class. Orange 222's 224's etc always look stunnning but in reality the technology just isn't there. An Army green £1099 Big Hit 1 (design getting a bit old now) will ride better.
