  1. I want to be climbing again but everything seems to be stopping me from going climbing... 2 years ago I was confidently leading indoors at 6a/6b and also leading sports routes at Portland and Swanage of a similar grade, then I badly damaged a finger learning to snowboard on a dry slope and was unable to climb for over a year. Since then all my climbing partners have moved away and this summer I knackered my ankle and toe crashing the DH Bike in France. Long Story short, I want to climb, have no one to climb with, keep injuring myself... oh and the climbing wall is a 60 mile round trip and costs £9 entry and I do not live any closer to real rock
  2. Shimano all the way Go for the SLX or XT brakes, they do not come with rotors so you would have to purchase rotors separately. If you get them from Rose Bikes who are based in Germany they will already be the 'wrong way' however it is likely you will have to shorten the hoses anyway. Some recent threads containing useful information can be found here: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/166090-disc-brake-recomendations/ http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/167762-disc-brake-help/
  3. NO! You want the glove to be a close fit but obviously not so tight it limits movement of your fingers. I also find that over time gloves loosen up anyway so you definitely do not want to buy a larger size to start with! I have been using 661 Raji's for years, they have a really thin palm and no padding on the back of the hand so are really breathable. I always keep an eye out on CRC for last years model in the sales and get them for around £10 a pair. They do get holes in them but I have no issues with sewing them up and have found that all gloves will get holes in them anyway. The last pair of Troy Lee gloves I bought were three times the price and fell to pieces within a few months!

  5. I can see why you are trying to win free tickets... I went last year with a friend who got free tickets through his work (The company he worked for at the time were the record label for an artist playing the festival) and in my opinion the event was not worth the price they were charging for a ticket. I just checked and this year it's £37 a ticket! £37 to watch a big air contest, walk around a tiny area full of shops trying to sell the latest greatest Snowboard fashion, some OK music (if you are local and do not have to rush back across London to get one of the last trains home) and a load of horrendously overpriced burger vans and bars... Unless I can get another free ticket for this year I think I will stay at home
  6. An X-Ray won't have done anything! How many laptops (obviously containing HDD's) do you think get X-Rayed at airports every day?
  7. Yes they have Note - Rusevelt even replied in that thread back on 2nd April 2010
  8. I took a step towards the dark side and purchased a Road Bike today. It's a 2010 Bianchi Via Nirone Sora, the LBS did a good price on it and I also got some SPD pedals and shoes. I was half planning on riding flats but thought I may as well go all out and get clips, I got a cycle computer as well I have never properly ridden a Road Bike or clipped pedals before so am expecting some SPD moments while getting used to it!
  9. Yes I recommend these brakes Since recommending them to Paul Oliver I have spent 2 weeks in Morzine using these brakes and for the money I do not think you will get a better brake. You might want a 180 rotor on the front but a 160 should be fine on the back. If you want to be really old fashioned you could argue that CRC are not English, they are based in Ireland
  10. After seeing people I ride with have stupid problems with the Levers on their Hayes brakes I wouldn't touch those Hayes Stroker brakes with a barge pole. Formula brakes are meant to be nice but getting spares is not meant to be too easy. I have Shimano Brakes on both of my bikes and am very happy with them! Check out Rose Bikes, they have some pretty good prices on Shimano brakes, they are based in Germany however loads of people on other forums have purchased stuff from them with no problems. The brakes will come with the levers the wrong way around so you will have to swap the levers over but this isn't really a problem because wherever you buy new brakes you would probably have to shorten the hoses anyway.
  11. I have been using Rema Tip Top stuff for years. If the patches are popping off the simple answer is, you are doing something wrong! Usually it would be caused by not cleaning and keying the tubes surface before applying the glue and patch, or like has just been said you are not allowing the glue to go tacky before sticking the patch on. Personally I always carry 2 spare tubes with me out on the trail as well as a puncture repair kit. That way I rarely have to repair a tube on the side of the trail, I just fit a new tube then when I get home I spend time properly repairing the punctured tube and use it as a spare on the next ride. Or you could be lazy like loads of people I know and just bin the punctured tube and never bother to fix punctures, although I don't understand why people do this unless it is a really bad split in the tube! I usually repair a tube a number of times before I bin it but each to their own I guess.
  12. You're doing it wrong then... and maybe you should use good quality repair kits rather than the shitty free puncture repair kits from the cover of MBUK Damn you
  13. What is the problem with a good old fashioned puncture repair kit?
  14. Lucky you! In the last 4-5 rides I have had 2 slow punctures caused by thorns
  15. I thought this deserved it's own thread! Is it wrong that I want to give it a go?
  16. Like others have said, Saint cranks are really nice but they are overkill unless you are fitting them to a DH Bike. The difference between SLX and XT is minimal so if I was in your position I would probably go for the SLX cranks and save some money for other shiny parts.
  17. Over what? It doesn't sound like you have anything to get over... learn, move on, listen to the advice given on here next time!
  18. Glad the upgrading is continuing, it's looking nice Regarding 1x9... I have been riding 1x9 for years now, before that I had 2x9 but never never shifted into the granny ring. I used to run 32t front chainring with an 11-34t cassette but recently upped to a 34t front chainring sticking with the 11-34t cassette. My philosophy is if it's too steep and tech to get up the hill in 34/34 you should be pushing or getting on a ski lift
  19. Rusevelt in talking out of his arse shocker
  20. She is 'Managing her brand'. Keep the tagged photos hidden, limit the info available, after all she doesn't want guys like you seeing the 99 million photos of her with other guys on nights out now does she
  21. Haha well done! That is really good, especially seeing as a few of the guys are local and helped actually build the tracks. You were lucky with the weather, I think if it had rained worse through the day the track you raced today would have been quite interesting! Were you in a separate hard tail category?
  22. Do a search on the Singletrack World Forums. There is loads of information and opinions on there... MTB Instruction/Guiding is something I have been considering training in for a while but as of yet I have not got off my arse and done it
