I used to use epoxy, and it sucked for me. Super glue gets my vote anyday. Loctite do some that is more of a gel than liquid, you can get it at b&q, that stuff is awesome, and less messy

if the barbed metal fitting is in good condition, then yes you can You don't have to heat the hose up, it's probably better that you do it cold so that the hose is less prone to stretching
