A friend of mine isn't to great at sidehops, he always tries them no matter what height but often slips down to chainstay.
This of course aggravates him more and more and he gets irritated when he can't do it. It's fairly clear that he only tries them so often because it's a move I do a lot when out riding, and I try and get him to do the same because I think he enjoys them like I do.
In reality he doesn't really enjoy them and only does them because I say he should, which is wrong of me as he doesn't like doing them. I'm obsessed with sidehops (sad I know) and that's why I do them so often and have spent so long getting the technique right, and spending ages looking at other styles of doing them. But not everybody is the same.
The point is don't listen to what anyone else says, do what makes you happy with your riding.
