Not sure about that. There are loads of alternatives to iPods (although admittedly very few large capacity players these days) which do exactly the same thing for half the price. They're just not as nice as iPods
  2. Nah, sitting down (whether you're pedalling or not) is not a manual.
  3. Hey everyone, listen to this guy. With that attitude he was able to get validated and stay validated. Ohnowait. He got de-validated again

I've heard that bike shops are still able to get XCs in - is that just old stock or are they continuing making them in smaller numbers? To be honest, an XC for ~£90 is better value than a Pro II for £140 for most people (Trials riders excluded). They don't have a disc mount either.
  5. Don't mean to be funny but I've seen those two taking the piss in NMC and making things worse. Fair enough those guys wouldn't take any shit, but I'm not convinced that's what NMC needs. The NMC forum isn't a place for full members to go and vent their anger at poor grammar or whatever - that's not a very nice welcome to an (overall) pretty friendly forum. In the end it would be up to Tom/Danny though. Do you think that NMC needs moderating more? I very much doubt there will be any new moderators who aren't SMs already.

Exactly. That's the basis behind sales of 99% of Apple products I reckon

No. Most people could get by with a 5 year old laptop if they wanted to. But they don't, they want nice things.
  8. In case you didn't realise though, being 'Senior' isn't really anything to do with how long you've been around. Just a cautionary note about the reporting - please don't abuse the system and nominate your mates or people that don't make the effort. If everyone nominates everyone, then we're in a bad place and it's no easier to filter out the good ones than it is now. And we'll have a moderator console full of crap so we can't see the other important things that're in there (genuine reports about spam/ flaming etc).

I don't think the appeal is as limited as you're making out. It's not going to be just journalists and executives that have them. Like I said, I think it would be ideal for me for using as a general Web/Email/MS Office laptop. It's too much money for me personally (at least at the moment), but I reckon I'd rather have one over the MBP for what I use my computer for.
  10. Don't blame us. Blame Satan. And Rock 'n' Roll.

DMR revolver + ACS claw? That's probably what I'd have if I wanted a strong but cheap wheel.

You haven't been able to buy them for probably 5 years, so I'd be very surprised if you could get one. They are pimp though.

That, and you don't like him, right? Seriously, NMC is for all threads, so don't have a go. NMC isn't a place for full members to go to criticise and feel superior. There are far too many people just going in there to have a go at people's spelling etc. Plus I don't think that confronting Charlie on everything he does is particularly helpful. He thrives on it.

I would use it I reckon. Like John, I have two computers and I never use the DVD drive/ethernet/firewire etc on my laptop. So I reckon I would use one of these things. Expensive though, and I'm not convinced on the looks of it.
  16. Nah, FAT32 has Windows/Mac/Linux compatibility. It is marginally slower but pretty much irrelevant for an external drive. The other thing is that NTFS has support for files > 4Gb, which FAT32 doesn't - only a problem if you download DVD ISOs really. My 250Gb external came formatted as Fat32 (presumably for Mac compatibility).
  17. Let's swap everything around. Danny and Tom can be banned Moderators go back to NMC The whole of the current NMC become moderators Anyone who was banned is now admin I think that system would work great.
  18. We still haven't had "one more thing"
  19. 1 USB port?! Not convinced it looks that pretty though
  20. It would be an icon in the dock by default, otherwise it's in the apple menu (top left corner).
  21. Ooooh Macbook air Just got interesting: Thinner than my phone Dammit, my 12" PB no longer rules.
  22. 1) System prefs --> network. (Then click 'show' and select whichever adaptor you wanna change) 2) Some applications have installers, you just need to double-click on them as in Windows. A lot of OS X apps can be run without installing - you just need to drag from wherever you downloaded them, into your applications folder (or anywhere you like). 3) System preferences and internet connect 4) System prefs 5) There's a program called 'Terminal' in applications/utilities 6) Another program called 'network utility', allows you to run netstat amongst other things. Should do everything you need.
