    School Exclusion

No, I bet you went to one of those special ones where fires are a daily occurrence and all the pupils wear helmets all day
  2. Nah we went with these guys. Yeah, we did go to Dubrovnik, it was well pretty
  3. I have to say that my experience of sailing never involved being too hot. You are ALWAYS cold. No way! I've been there, sailing, about 6-7 years ago I think. Cool We went to Greece as well the year before, both times sailing 31ft yachts. That was awesome, so nice and sunny. We would sail to a nice bay that no one can get to by foot, have a swim, sail to a tiny port and eat etc. Then my parents decided they wanted their own boat so bought a boat and they sail it around the North Sea. Which misses the point somewhat in my opinion...
  4. My thinking on it is this: If you type a post using text talk it might save you a few seconds. But this isn't MSN - what you write could be read a hundred times. That means that a hundred people have to spend a few extra seconds deciphering what you've written, so you're wasting everyone's time, just to save you a few seconds. I don't think we need to give the impression that this forum is full of pedantic spelling nazis. It's not. Personally I don't care if you can't spell. I don't even mind that much if you don't know how to use an apostrophe ( ). But don't make me spend time deciphering your post because you couldn't be bothered to type it out in full. That's just rude. For technical reasons I can't be arsed explaining, a large number of posts can actually work against you. So yes, quality is much more important. I think that about wraps it up.
  5. Surely he's not gone off that idea?! What's he riding now?
  6. Pfft if you saw how seriously my Dad and his mates take it, you wouldn't think that. Lots of shouting and fibreglass boats for lightness. It's a sport.
  7. There's no real problem with doing that, but it is a bit annoying. It'll take time and effort to compress all your files, and then if you ever want to access your files again you'll have to unzip them just to see what's there. There's no real problem with doing it, but I don't think it's worth it. To be honest, I'd probably just buy an external drive. You can get storage for under 16p/Gb (500Gb hard drive for £80) so backing up on DVD isn't really worth the hassle IMO.
  8. Aw, don't make us wait! I think there's probably a market now for a proper 26" street frame. Lots of people are interested in going 24 but it's a pretty big investment if you currently ride stock (new frame + wheels + tyres + whatever other bits). If you made a 26" frame with similar geo to the 24uk, the transition would be a lot easier for a lot of people. Kind of like the Czar freetrials but a bit more oldschool-looking and not as long. In fact, just make it exactly like the 2004 Pure and I can think of at least one person who'll be over the moon!
  9. I used to sail loads because my parents were really into it. I sailed an Optimist and then a Topper (which I still have in the garage) and they sailed a GP14. I used to get dragged all round the country on a Sunday so they could race it - as soon as I was old enough to stay at home on my own, I did Now my parents have a bigger boat (a Beneteau 311, yacht fans) which they love. I've sailed that a few times, it's pretty fun. P.S. Yes I thought of Alan
  10. The main advantage of SSDs is seek time though - which is something daft like 2ms instead of 30ms for a standard hard drive. Bongo is right though, this topic is too geeky

    Lent?

My girlfriend decided she was giving up chocolate for lent and half heartedly decided I was going to try as well. The very next day, I was eating a bag of minstrels because I'd forgotten. So that didn't last long.
  12. Do you have an eBay account linked with your email address? On eBay I think you can now just pay via paypal using a credit card -no signup required. You used to have to sign up and get an account to buy anything. If you haven't already got a proper account, sign up now. Some of the security checks are a bit annoying though
  13. Do you mean HDMI or HDCP? As Krisboats says, it's dead simple to convert DVI to HDMI and vice versa. For HDCP, as far as I know, most decent graphics cards from the last 2 years will support it (on the DVI port). [/acronym soup]
  14. See? What kind of loser buys 9 hard drives worth a grand each, calls them the 'Battleship' and takes pictures to show off to a load of other losers on the internets?
  15. I suppose. But to get onto the 'most watched' list, loads of people must have found it funny, and linked to it.
  16. But... that video's rubbish and not slightly funny?
  17. CF cards would cope badly. I was on about how current SSDs are designed differently to CF cards. SSDs can spread the workload whereas CF cards cannot. At the moment, having an SSD is not about how long it will last. It's about how big your eWang is. By the time these SSDs fail (it might be 2 years, it might be 20), they will be mainstream. People who buy them now won't care if they die in 2 years.
  18. Badly. SSDs are made so that the memory can cope with a much higher number of read/write cycles, and in addition the SSD controller spreads the workload across the drive so it's used 'evenly' (minimising the risk of too many read/write cycles).
  19. He should have said something like 'prize must be claimed by the end of December' or something, would have been much better. It sounds a bit like the guy who won is just taking his sweet time about it, which is really annoying for everyone else (Including Adam by the sounds of it).
  20. I guess you met some scallies then. Like I said, welcome to England. There are a lot of nobs in Manchester, like these two: Youtube Video -> ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">
  21. He's got a laptop though
  22. Moss side is OK now though. Manchester council has spent millions on making it look nice, and extra policing etc. I've got quite a few friends who live in Moss side and apparently it's alright. So now Salford is much worse than Moss side.
  23. Welcome to England. Salford is probably the worst place in Manchester, which puts it pretty high in the running for the worst place in England. I'm not particularly surprised by this story to be honest. Sounds like you got away with your bike though?
  24. It doesn't have to match up. Just make sure that the card you get says 'wireless G' or 802.11g or 54G on it somewhere. Though I'd be very surprised if you could even find a 'b' card anywhere these days. N stuff is more expensive and buying that will be pointless since you router won't be N-capable. It's probably better to spend a few quid extra and get one from a reputable name. Buying the cheapest one might lead to annoying troubles (connections dropping etc).
