  1. Haha, nice one, someone didnt read the bottle! Looks like it did a good job with the paint though.
  2. Hmm.. still not sure, it says there's an alloy core where high stress levels occurs, IE the bar ends, the clam area and the bends. So they could still be proper carbon in most of the length. Yeah, go for it. Like the guy said, his were two years old, So assuming the riding level is the same they'll still have a good year left in them.
  3. As you can probably tell by the Howie's link in my signature, This is something I have thought about. Howie's are a great company, I have to confess I don't own much of there stuff, as its bloody expensive and I'm bloody poor, so just a few tees, but if I had the money I would have a lot more. Anyway. The thing with anodizing is kind of like that way that the US chrome absolutely every part of most cars. The process of chrome plating is very harmful to the environment, and the USA do so much of it, that it makes a serious difference. Personally I try to do my bit. My bikes as British made as I could afford, and doesn't have too much anodized parts. I wont really go anywhere in the car (well rents ATM) without making sure I have a full car load of bikes and people. And If I get a car on the road I'll either stick with the bus to college or car share with mates. I'm also very conscious about things like not leaving anything I'm my room on stand-by I mean why does a DVD player even need a standby button? you have to go to it to put the disc in in the first place anyway? Sorry, went of track a bit there. but yeah, it is something I've thought about and try and do my part with, but there is a certain point at which it just becomes stupid to go to.
  4. Yep they do, Ride really nicely though. I used to have a re-welded one, and one of my mates has just cracked his. Both were mods, both quite old though, so had done quite well. Wouldn't like to say about the 26" ones though. They could be nails. Don't get put off buying one though, you'll probably still get a good 2 years out of it, which isn't really anything to complain about, and the way they ride is worth it.
  5. You'd think that, but the thing is that most carbon bars have a aluminium insert in the ends so they don't splinter and crack when you hit the end of your bars against things. Meaning that what you say is true about probably the first inch or two but after that they are more than likely full carbon.
  6. It looks kinda weird, good to see some new technology being implemented though. I just prefer the old school simple designs really The weight is so low because of the use of the monocoque style tubing allowing thinner walls to be just as strong. Its definitely an interesting design, and in many ways I like the idea, especially good to see another 26" with horizontals on a 135mm dropout. Edit: Sorry, according to koxx, rather than some random guy on OTN and its a +40 not +60, so it redeems its self a bit, at least that's just not to my taste, rather than just stupid.
  7. There not that bad money though, 480 is less than an XTP or similar, and I really would rather have the Monty. They're so much sexier, not just a big block of CNC.
  8. I'd go with a 65mm Easton Vice, Really nice stiff stems, and not too heavy, will match your bars too. Get them in 25.4mm, Easton's just don't look or feel as nice in 31.8 Linky (unfortunately that's the not so pretty 31.8 version in the picture, but trust me the 25.4 is gorgeous I'm currently running a EA30 2" rise bar and a 65mm Vice stem both 25.4, it just feels right, looks great, is in your price range, and isn't heavy. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, a link for the Thompson if you feel like shelling out a bit more, that in 70mm would be sweet.
  9. With Urban's my mates mk5 (or whatever the newest one is) is: 1055 wheelbase about 15mm BB rise, there meant to be +20 but none of them actually seem to be quite that high. 380 rear end 73 headangle That's definitely all right for his bike, as Ive measured it myself and it agrees with what everyone else I've spoken to has said. Personally I think you should go for the latest one, they just ride sooo nicely, will really get you back into riding, there just really fun.
  10. Pretty sure the cage is built into it in one piece. Can get the new caliper half from tarty no problem.
  11. Really sorry to hear about this. My condolences go out to you and your family. R.I.P. Iain To quote Bayside: "Winter" When Winter falls Next year, I'll be holding on To anything nailed down As for being patient, with fate and all, it's getting old. And my mind is slowly changing I'm calling all my oldest friends, Saying "sorry for this mess we're in," And I'm waiting, waiting For the Sun to come and melt this snow, wash away the pain, and give me back control, control. An angel got his wings, And we'll hold our heads up knowing that he's fine. We'd all be lucky to have a love like that in a lifetime. Should we still set his plate? Should we still save his chair? Should we still buy him gifts? And if we don't, did we not care? It makes you think about the life you've led, Shit you've done, things you've said. And it's grounding, grounding. I've been feeling three feet tall this month, hardly indestructible. But the snow melts, and the rhythm still goes on. An angel got his wings, And we'll hold our heads up knowing that he's fine. We'd all be lucky to have a love like that in a lifetime. Friends stay side by side, In life and death you've always stole my heart, You'll always mean so much to me, it's hard to believe this These nights in vans, These nights in bars, Don't mean a thing with empty hearts, with empty hearts. An angel got his wings, And we'll hold our heads up knowing that he's fine. We'd all be lucky to have a love like that in a lifetime. Friends stay side by side, In life and death you've always stole my heart, You've always meant so much to me, it's hard to believe So much to me, it's hard to believe So much to me, it's hard to believe this. The song Winter was writen by Anthony from Bayside in memory of his brother and the bands drummer John "beatz" Holohan who was killed in a car accident on an icy road during one of there tours.
  12. Yeah, apparently it was Burton, in which case he will have been riding a re-sprayed Echo Control last I knew, red or orange or something? with Exeter county council written down the side because they sponsor him Edit: yeah, upload it or get a kick in the tits!
  13. Hell yes it does! that's what I'm talking about, it doesn't have to be good to have character, and it doesn't mean its bad if it doesn't. Its just nice if it does. I think he got the Idea, just replace the word BMX with trials/trials bike and race with trial and you get the idea!
  14. If you look closely in the bottom left picture you can see IS mounts, there just out of sight in the other pictures. Didn't there levers have problems with leaking? Looks nice, but the piston diameter doesn't look very big on the caliper, so I'm guessing its more XC orientated.
  15. Mine Lives under the stairs in the house, only because there's space and its less hassle than carrying it through the house to the shed. My freeride bikes currently in the kitchen. At least my freeride bike, but maybe both will go in the shed when I get around to fitting a better lock, there bloody secure in there, to steel then you'd have to jump a spiked 5 foot fence, then a plain 6 foot fence, then break past one normal barrel lock and one bolt and padlock, then take the bikes back over the fences as at least one of them always has a padlocked bolt.
  16. I think what people are missing in this thread is that its about how much character your bike has, its not saying that its bad in the slightest, it could be an amazing bike, but still not have much character. Personally I think that some things that give a bike character , whether there a good or bad thing are: Creaks/groans.4/5-arm cranks. Small British/European companies components (hope, white industries, etc.)Self modification (rims drilled by yourself, bits fixed/re-welded instead of replaced, etc)An old battered Maggie built out of several different original breaks is just as characterful as a vee.Non-trials specific parts, (raceface, easton, Thompson etc)re-sprayed/finishparts.Made by a small European/American based manufacturer, or just being rare in general.and just not looking like you bought it yesterday, being battered, old tyres, that kind of thing. Loads of this stuff in in no way a good thing, it just adds character to a bike.If you have just bought a brand new, latest thing out, shinyblingg thing, then its probably not going to have much character, it might work amazingly, but therearn'tt the memories of denting it, there arn't the memories associated with how it got to be where it is today. It just doesnt have much character. Few thing I would add to the original post: 50 point for aMaggiee that has been made from old bits. 1 point for each % through there life your tyres are. 3 points for each time you've fallen off the bike. 100 points for each bone you've broken on/falling off the bike. 50 points for each I-pod/phone you've broke riding the bike. +20 if they stillwarrantedd it! 75 points for each year you've owned the bike. 20 points for a creak/groan. 50 points for a part that should probably be replaced but your too fond of it to bother. 50 points for each time the frames been re-sprayed, +20 for each component that's been re-painted/polished/finished. 5 points per large scratch through to the paint. 10 points for each noticeably sized dent. 150 points if since the initial build/buy every single part has been changed other than maybe the headset/pedals. 50 points for parts that have been used on more than 2 bikes. 100 points for any home-made/one off parts. My Iolo got 210 originaly, but something around 500 including my stuff.
  17. You running a smooth rim or grind? If you're not running a grind then I'd say the BT yellow are amazing, there being great for me so far, its hard to believe that the rim isn't ground till you notice how much smoother it feels.
  18. Oo.. Very sexy, loving the rear break, that was the first think I though as soon as I saw the new Moto lever 'ooo.. would that be compatible with a mono trials caliper?' guess the answers yes! Work nicely?

Sweet, cheers rich, downloaded them all! Keep the links coming. This threads starting to become one hell of a video archive.
  20. Hm... Might add an extra 4 or 5mm to the wheelbase, and can always take a spacer out of the headset or something to lower it a bit. Can't really imagine it being noticeable. you thinking of getting some then?
  21. Its true, there really isn't a need to spend £165 on one break, if its for trials either a BB7 or a mono trials 2007 would be much better than any modern XC break will be.
  22. You got any pics of the whole wheel? add me on msn, I've build loads of wheels and can probably help you Ringwams@hotmail.com Edit: sorry, some text talk got in there after excessive myspace usage
  23. Shouldn't have though so, Ben Moore uses a 205mm hope rotor and a 203 BB7 and its been fine for ages.
  24. Hu?? There 408 this year too? Pretty short in my books.
  25. I'm pretty sure they were 408mm long. Remember thinking that they weren't exactly nice round numbers, 43 and 408.
