RobinJI replied to Bridport-Rider-Dave's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
This is gunna get closedd very quickly as you're not aloud to sell or buy stuff in new members chat. -
He's on about a second hand one. But yeah, get neither, find something better alround. If you must though it sounds like the adamants gunna be better.
-
Nah, thing is its only a pretty small shop, so they wouldnt be able to stock alot of stuff, just if any of us need it he wants to be able to order it, and keep in stock the little things like boosters and stuff.
-
Haha, Nice, so it was ment to be a 1040? why'd they change it it 1020? If they'd left it but sorted the rake thing I'd own one right now!
-
OK thanks, so I need to tell the LBS owner to contact tarty or select?
-
Chit chats the place for this kinda stuff And damb u, Buy the thing assuming its good condition and the right size. But check everything first, full sussers are a bastered second hand, just check all the linkages and bearings.

Haha, I heard something about those, didn't they get it wrong at the factory or something?
-
My local small bike shop is interested in getting in deng stuff as the number of local trials riders seems to be going up alot. Anyone know the numbers and things he's gunna need to set up an account with the suppliers?

What Are The Most Annoying Things You Find When Riding?
RobinJI replied to Ben Beckett's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
The lack of good 24" tyres that you can actually get hold of! The usual chavs being, well, chavs. And yeah, I agree with the wind thing, it is really really annoying, especially knowing you cant do anything about it. At least with chavs you can normally just confuse em till they go away. -
Normally just hit the old one out the top (don't try pushing it right out the bottom as the inside diameter of the steerer gets smaller at the bottom of most forks). Then yep, just twat it in if you feel confident you can keep it straight, but there is a tool for it, but that basically just screws in, then twatting is still required. Edit: some text talk crept into that post, Shock horror!

Looks interesting. Google link just comes up with pictures of fish for me. haha. My 24" is the most UCI style one I've heard of geometry wise, 1060-1040 wheelbase, 390-370 chainstays, +25bb. But it is still pretty streety because of the way the frame is.

Freewheel/freehub? Which Would Have A Faster Engagement?
RobinJI replied to ogre's topic in Trials Chat
Whether the freewheel engages before or after, the chain always has to become tight for the drive to be transfered to the wheel. -
It might just be worth seeing if you get used to it, I'm riding a 1050 wheelbase 24" with a 65mm stem, which works out as a good bit shorter than a zoot, it felt short at first, but once you get used to it its great, makes everything so fun. Kinda like downhilling with bugger all suspension, take a bit more effort to do as well in a comp, but its bloody fun.
-
Yeah, as far as drivetrain is concerned, assuming you're running singlespeed then all that needs to change is the freewheel/freehub and cranks to a left hand drive version, the only difference in the cranks is which way the threads go all need reversing, the freehubs just need the ratchet ring going the other way, and is an option on a lot of hubs such as profiles. I know at least 1 BMXer who has left hand drive in the small town I live in, and one who's hub has the option, and hes probably gunna go that way when he gets new cranks. Of corse its only any use if you hit your right side more than your left. Edit: to answer an erlier question, I beams are not really any good for frame design as they are the most efficient design, but only slightly, and only when forces are acting on a single plane, and the strength lost to awquald impacts would out-weigh the benefit of the tiny amount of weight saved

Freewheel/freehub? Which Would Have A Faster Engagement?
RobinJI replied to ogre's topic in Trials Chat
Per turn of the cranks the eno would have 72 engagements, so would engage every 5 degrees or rotation. Per turn of the cranks the freehub would have 48*(18/12)=72, so would also engage every 5 deg of rotation. So taking into account the gearing, they'll be exactly the same. -
Nah, it was in a respected scientific book in out college library that was looking at it from a non-biast point of view. It is a true figure, i mean, every day for 10 years is proper abuse!! I know its an extream case, but its true. Funny thing is, the trainie lecturer who showed me it was a full on stoner himself!
-
Yeah, on a geared hub very true, but i was meaning a singlespeed hub really.

Some cool bike pimpness in here: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....p;hl=skull+stem

Nice bike. Isn't your chain upsidedown?
-
All it means about the dropouts is that there off to one side slightly, there still normal horizontal dropouts, but iff you look at the bike from above, the rim will be in the middle of the hub flanges, not the middle of the dropouts. and the mech hanger means that it has the mech hanger aswell as the horizontals, so you get the choice.
-
Yeah, sorry, was mainly meaning the guy above who was asking why he asked opinions when he had made his. Wasnt really meaning it in a harsh way.
-
Don't get me wrong, I love the way that the MII is mega low, thats great, its just it also apears to be really short too. I just looks like a smaller frame all round. Oh... Just noticed the rather sexy sliding dropouts it has though! nice touch, and the hitman has horizontals now, very sexy. go singlespeed! (oh and also, 8" disc on 24" wheels? ) The patriot freeride looks really really nice though
-
First three are megga sexy! however 26" frames with 24" wheels should all be burned, as they ride and look crap compared to a 24" specific frame, it is the wrong sized wheels, even if they still do work thanks to discs. MII looks kinda tiny, hope its avalible in a larger size.

He asked what seat and post combo would be good, not for people to say he shouldn't bother. Lots of people keep saying that trails frames wouldn't have a steep enough seat angle? what the.. have you ever seen an echo pure? it'd be too steep if anything! Anyway, yeah, best bet seems to be a small BMX seat and any old post. post shouldnt set you back much more than a tenner, so you've got like £40 for a seat, go around some of your local BMX and skate shops and have a look at what they've got.

Looking at that picture I'd say that its a +40 or +50 mount, as that looks like a standard front 160 caliper, but the rotor looks like a 203 or 210.
