Yeah, was about to say that. A3's are the cheapest to insure. Golfs have the "GTI" badge, and the Leons have the "Cupra" badge. A3's don't really have a sporty image as such...even though the have exactly the same performance, silly really. I think "cheap" was subjective to the performance you get for the money. That's the point he is (badly!) trying to make. For not much more than the average warm-hatch, you can have a very easily tunable, very capable engine. Jardo, I will await your text then.

If you 100% want them, I'll keep them for you. Will be super mad if you piss me about though. Bill's rods are £425 too. As are Alex Kerr's. There's just no competition. I find Bill really expensive for a lot of things.
-
Yeah. I don't like him either, but he's saving me a fortune, so I kinda have to put that to one side.

Rod kit (rods, bearings, ARP studs, kevlar cambelt, waterpump, oil filters, cylinder head gasket set etc) was $879 dollars (~£590), Sachs paddle clutch is £300, pressure plate and CSC is £150ish. I then need piston rings, oil pump, oil pickup. The rod kit is the best value one you can get, hence why I got it so quickly. There was a group buy of 25, and I was the last person. Just the rods in the UK are £425. Anyway...you have my paypal...give me monies!
-
I'd be quick, I'll be weighing them in in the next week or so. Certainly won't have them in a month (unless you pay me, then I can hold onto them for you). Need as much money back as I can for this build. Looking at well over £1k already, and thats just the clutch and rods
-
Seems you can get around £70 for them for scrap value. Will post them for that if you're game?
-
See above (I edited it after Robin posted, so doubt you saw it). I've still got the standard downpipe and cats yes. You want?
-
Far too much sneaky editing going on! Yes I am still gay. Are you still woefully inadequate?!

I know which I'd rather have though... I very much enjoyed my trip to R-Tech on Saturday with my friend. He came away with 230bhp and 277ftlbs...slightly lower figures than hoped, but it still goes very well considering. Launch control was mapped in for free on stage 2 too, which was a welcome bonus. He is now on the verge of needing a new clutch though, haha. My rod package order has now been confirmed, and should be sent out on Monday. Think I'm going to buy a second engine, and build it all out of the car. My clutch started slipping again today. I went to put my foot on the clutch, and it wouldn't return unless i pulled it up. After a few pumps it was fine again...and still is; so I'm guessing the slave cylinder is screwed or something and is squirting onto the clutch. Seems odd how it only does it every now and then, there is literally no consistency to it whatsoever. Brake and clutch pedal feel still feel spot on though, very baffling. Think I'll order a Sachs paddle clutch and be done with it.

Going to get the Cupra I built to stage 2 for my friend mapped today. Pretty excited to see the outcome! Also ordered forged rods and the relevant hardware last night. Now on the lookout for an engine so I can build it out of the car. Will be an expensive few months! Hopefully it's worth itthoughh, will be nice to have the piece of mind that I'm not one step of the throttle away from banana rods!

Because they weren't designed for that type of blade. Get Bora aero arms, much much much better

I'm guessing at that price you haven't declared the remap either? Insurance is such a strange game! Driving the Leon to the Lake District for a holiday at Centre Paris, and got caught up in a convoy of cars heading home from Modified Nationals at Peterborough. There were some hideously modified cars going past us, really have to question some peoples' tastes! Some nice ones too though to be fair.
-
Have to say, I agree with Jolfa. I really don't get the appeal with them, they make the car look handicapped or something.
-
I hate those deflectors with a passion. They are almost as bad as bonnet bras. So sceney. Whats wrong with aircon anyway?!

The Saab of doom has finally died! Shame, it was a nice car. Just a pity it has been a shit to you for three years! Muel, TDI Cupras are pretty cool cars. They have the 150PD engine, which with a remap, you're looking at around 200bhp, and a shit load of torque. They do suffer from "chocolate cams" though, so be very careful when buying, and make sure they have been changed. Basically, the cam followers were made of really shit metal, which wore away after time, which obviously means really poor running. From my limited VAG PD engine knowledge, I don't think it was particuarly expensive or difficult to change, was just time consuming and fiddly. (From memory, I think a set of 8 followers was about £200 ish?) The majority of them are now at the age/mileage where they will have been done, or will need doing. Most sellers will make a big thing of it being done if they have been, because it is a hugely common problem. Other things to look out for are the usual TDI traits; EGR valve, sticky VNT turbo vanes etc etc...plus of course the usual car checks; service history, cambelt (every 60k on those), yada yada yada...

Judging by that, maybe you should be f**ked!

Jardo, it's 13mm ID. If you're talking about the hose off the intake manifold. I had to change the Y piece, to a piece of silicone hose when I did the PCV delete. Didn't feel your spark plug bodge was quite good enough
-
Nope. Looked into it...but never actually got round to doing it. Ideally I'd do meth and rods, then give it to Niki to get bangs and flames and fasts.
-
That is sexual! Really love the look of the new generation of Audi front ends. ...that reminds me, I really must look into meth!

I'll stick to private work at the minute...I prefer pocket money + wages to just wages. I love where I work right now, so not in a massive rush to jump ship. You're right though, its all about customer base. I'm slowly building mine up...got several customers who I do repeat work for. Only problem being, the Leon doesn't make a very good work van, haha!
-
Your intercooler is waaaaaay off centre I very nearly made that mistake when I did mine, the bonnet catch support isn't in the middle of the headlights...which it looks like you have taken to be centre. Shame! You really have no luck with that bumper...maybe you should just pay to get it sprayed properly. Got to be cheaper than buying all these cans of paint! Phil's place is in a really weird area! Looks like it used to be a storage area or something for one of the other places. Maybe an area to store all the glasses, or petfood?! Still, must be pretty exciting for him though. I keep wanting to go self employed, but it still seems a bit of a dodgy time at the moment. I get a lot of private work (both electrical, and mechanical!), which gives me a lot of pocket money, but not quite enough to live off. One day soon though!

The Leon is particularly bad at having a dirty rear screen. Only take it off if you can handle having a constantly dirty window.
-
Ticcy is correct, the Fabia estate has the washer jet on the bootlid. I too bought a kit with everything in it, but I also had a look, and can't find it If you google "leon fabia rear wiper conversion", it will give you a list of part numbers you need. Don't pay any more than £20 though.

VW Bora aero wipers>retrofit aero blades. Can pick them up off ebay for about £40. They sit completely flat against the windscreen, rather than 40mm or so. Subtle difference, but its always the little things! vs. Biggest difference is from inside though. Bora: Retrofit:
